Dr. Crowley and Dr. Ragoschke are wonderful vets. They're thorough, kind, patient and genuinely care about the animals they treat. Four months ago, when our dog Willow became sick with diarrhea and vomiting, Dr. Ragoschke was kind enough to explain her test results and answer my many questions. I felt good about my experience with her and believed that my husband and I had found a great clinic in Milwaukee. But the supporting staff leaves a lot to be desired. When the antibiotic Willow was prescribed resulted in constipation, I called to find out how to proceed. The tech I spoke to told me that constipation for several days is normal BUT that we should stop the antibiotic. Since the doctor hadn't warned us that constipation was a possible side effect that would warrant our stopping the antibiotic, I asked some additional questions. The tech struggled to answer them, growing exasperated. I then asked if she meant we should temporarily stop the antibiotic or if this would be a permanent cessation of the med. She condescendingly said, "Use your judgment" as though anyone with half a brain would know what to do. I explained that my husband and I pay hundreds of dollars for the professional advice of trained veterinarians because we love our dog and don't want to "guess" what to do. The tech repeated that we should stop the antibiotic and use our discretion on whether to continue it later. "When is 'later'?" I asked. She sighed, making it painfully clear that she didn't want to discuss it. She apparently didn't know the answer and didn't care enough to find out what it was. I told her I would be more comfortable speaking directly to the doctor. She insisted she had told me all I needed to know. I repeated that I would like to speak with the vet. She then snapped that someone would call us Monday and HUNG UP ON ME! My brother was sitting next to me and heard this entire exchange, including the click of her phone. We looked at each other with our mouths agape, shocked that someone in the position of protecting the health and welfare of people's pets could be so dismissive and rude. Monday came and went without a call. Since it was getting late, my husband called Community Vet (CV) himself, putting his phone on speaker so that I could hear as well. When he mentioned that we'd been waiting for their call, a defensive woman said they had called us earlier that day. (Our phone histories and the lack of a voicemail said otherwise.) This woman was just as rude, condescending and dismissive as the woman I had spoken to on Friday, ranting about how we had refused medication the vet had prescribed and how I had refused the advice of the tech. My husband repeatedly tried asking one question but she kept talking over him, so I finally interrupted and said, "We never 'refused medication'; we explained at checkout that we already had the probiotic at home. And I didn't 'refuse' the advice of the tech; I was trying to get clarification on HOW to proceed and she couldn't tell me. We're now again trying to get an answer to one question but you're not letting us speak." She snapped, "I'm speaking to your husband, not you!" I replied, "You're speaking AT my husband, not TO him, and he's standing here rolling his eyes because you won't let him get a word in!" She, too, hung up on us. My husband and I looked at each other. "Can you believe this?" I asked. He just kept shaking his head and saying, "Wow." I should've written this review then but because of the wonderful vets, we decided to stay with the clinic, hoping to avoid the rude staff members. Fast-forward to a couple of days ago when we took Willow to urgent care where she was treated for roundworm. Since she needs to be seen in 4 weeks by our regular vet to make sure she's ok, I called CV yesterday to make the appointment. A staff member named Alex answered the phone and--after pulling our account--explained that CV can no longer see us. "Huh?" "There's a note on your account." "What?" "Yeah, it's been there for months." "What? Why weren't we told? There's never been a phone call, letter, email, nothing!" Alex apologized but he couldn't change it. Community Vet's logo is: "We consider your pet's health our first concern." Really? CV staff decided that we're no longer welcome but didn't have the decency to tell us so that we could find a new vet for our sweet little rescue dog. Instead they waited until she became sick and in need of care to let us know. It's gross. After many calls, the earliest we can get in with a new vet is in two months. Clearly, our pet's health is of no concern to CV. It seems the staff is more concerned with spite, no matter the cost to our little dog. The negative reviews here almost entirely point to CV's supporting staff, a pattern. CV may have great vets but all it takes is a couple of rude, spiteful employees to endanger the life of your beloved pet. If you care about your pet's health, avoid Community Vet. read more

Now they stopped sending prescriptions to online pharmacies like PetMed. I've ordered Hartgard from PetMed online for years. Now I have to go into the clinic to get a written prescription and mail it into PetMed. We called Community Vet Clinic about getting our 8 wk. old puppy in for his series of vaccine shots. The receptionist said we could not get in for over a month. To follow vaccine protocol that would have gone beyond the time frame. Vaccines have to be spaced accordingly.We do not want to take our puppy for walks until he gets properly vaccinated. I usually have no complaints about Chase Vet Clinic. The vet staff are nice, compassionate, and try to make my pets comfortable. The staff on the other hand. I had a $100 dollar bill. I was going to use it to pay for my costs. The woman told me she could not accept it since she had no cash as another person had used a $100 bill. What? You don't have the cash? Oh, I could go it get it cashed and come back. What again? What if I didn't have a card on me? Would they force a woman of 55, barely able to walk, in the cold, to exchange my $100? The amount of care they have given my pets at the last minute has always been top-notch and I really appreciate their ability to accommodate same-day appointments so I am not forced to pay emergency prices elsewhere. On both occasions that I have been to this clinic, my cats have suffered from chest and nasal congestion. Definitely not an emergency, but urgent enough that it couldn't wait until the next day. The doctors and the techs that my animals have been treated by have been so kind and very patient with my concerns. The overall aesthetics of the clinic are very country and dated. Called this vet as I am a local and heard good reviews. My dog had an eye infection, and I asked when I could bring her in to have it looked at. The receptionist told me the first appointment they had was more than 3 weeks out. Really?!? You don't have any time where a vet can take 5 minutes to look at her eye and give me some antibiotics??? I was shocked. I said "what, I'm supposed to let her suffer for a month and go blind?? There is nothing sooner??" "Nope, sorry" is basically the response I got. Took her to the walk-in clinic on St Paul and got ointment that helped immediately. While it may be unfair to give 1star when I didn't even use their service, I think that their customer service and scheduling practice is APPALLING. I was not trying to schedule a routine physical, this was an urgent matter and they said the best they could do is tell me to wait a month. Completely unacceptable by any standard or stretch of the imagination. I suggest you go somewhere where they understand what Urgent means and actually care about treating a sick animal. read more

I have lived in the area for four years, and taken my dog, Leo to this veterinarian since we moved to Milwaukee. From the beginning, I have been blown away by the fast, professional service and low price. They are extremely patient and answer all of my questions and concerns carefully. My dog has always been in great health, but they have been helpful with the few emergencies we have encountered. Emergency 1 - broken toenail. Leo split his nail down to the quick on some ice, and though the vet was about to close when we called, stayed on the phone and talked me through treating the bleeding foot at home, and gave me an emergency number to call. Leo was fine, and I was super appreciative! Emergency 2 - surgical staple. About six months after I had adopted Leo in New Orleans and had him fixed by a clinic down there, I noticed something silver on Leo's "boy parts'. I was confused by this, as the New Orleans vet told me they used dissolving stitches and no follow up was needed. I called Community Vet and they told me to bring him right in (about 3 pm on a Monday). They saw him immediately - removed what turned out to be FIVE surgical staples, and gave me some antibiotics to prevent infection. I was really worried what this would cost, (of course it was a week until pay day) - NO CHARGE. So, we will probably never go anywhere else. I've been taking my dog, Meadow to Community Veterinary Clinic since I got her in December of 2011. Once for her initial physical, a second time for an issue she had with a cyst, and a third time for her second physical and shots. Each time the staff was helpful and polite, her doctor, Dr. Inniss has been nothing but the same. From my perspective, basic care (rabies shots, other vaccinations, standard checkups, etc. ) has been EXTREMELY affordable, as I've never had a bill over $75 for a visit. Their hours are also very helpful for individuals who work typical 9-5 schedules, with many days extending to 5:45 or as late as 6:30 (they're open on Saturdays as well, in the morning). My only gripe with this clinic is its size. It is very, very small. If your dog is aggressive among other dogs, you may want to arrange waiting outside with the receptionists, as you will be side-by-side with other pet owners while waiting. read more

Dr. Crowley and Dr. Thomas are the reasons to go here. Don't let them talk you into Monica even though she's supposedly the "cat" vet. She's cold. Dr. Crowley & Dr. Thomas are warm, knowledgeable, friendly. When my cat developed an allergy Dr. Crowley wasn't about pushing costs - in fact he suggested a food change and steroid shots. He told me that the vet techs could do it much cheaper and to make the appt. with them. Dr. Crowley has also done house calls! We rescued our Saint Bernard 4 years ago and we have been taking him to Community ever since. Dr. Crowley is professional, friendly and compassionate. We have had one of the other doctors treat our Saint once but I don't remember her name but she was just as professional, friendly and compassionate as Dr. Crowley. The front desk staff has always been friendly and gives our big guy treats at the end of every visit. I don't have anything else to compare to (I guess that is a good thing) but there prices seem reasonable. Honestly they could charge me a million dollars and I'd put it on a payment plan because I think their services are top notch. read more

Have had 2 appointments now. First check up was great. Waiting room only had one other dog in it, nice clean area. Friendly staff. Doctor listened and answered questions as best he could - in hindsight, it was better to say obedience / training style questions for the puppy class we went to. Second check up for booster a month later was great. I was running late and when I got there at 6 minutes after the appointment time, my boyfriend and dog were waiting at the checkout counter and had apparently already sniffed the whole place (dog, not boyfriend). read more

I have an 8 month old Miniature Schnauzer and I have been looking for places to get her spayed. Someone recommended that I take her to a spay clinic, but after reading reviews for those places (horrible conditions for your pet) I turned my attention to veterinary clinics in the area. After reading a few reviews on here I called 3 places, and Community Veterinary had, by far, the best price- along with great online reviews. I haven't gotten my dog spayed yet, but I have the appointments set up with Community Vet. I am writing this review because I am shocked by some of the negative comments on here about the desk staff- the person who I spoke to was friendly, knowledgable, and was very patient with all of my questions. Unbelievable! My hairdresser recommended Dr Thomas as I had complained about the service I had received from 2previous vets. As Dr T usually has a 1week wait I opted to see Dr Monica. Dr Monica took the time to explain numerous things to me and treated my dog Bella, with loving care. I informed her that Bayshore Veterinary Clinic had told me that my dog needed a shot and teeth extracted. It works out that she didn't need either. The shot was optional and it is usually only given if your dog goes to doggy daycare. I chose to get the shot as I was already there and HOLY, talk about CHEAP! I was previously paying for the shot, consultation and nurses fee... I couldn't walk out under $100. At community vet I was only charged for the shot. Dr Monica gave Bella an exam, shot and nail trim and they only charged me for the shot! This wasn't a mistake, the rest is complimentary. I love my dog more then anything so believe me when I tell you that you will be overjoyed with this vet! read more

I love all the Vets there. They are all amazing. Dr. Meier is my hero. Most amazing woman. Caring beyond belief. Alot of my friends recommended her!! However, the front of the house is pretty close to terrible. I've complained many many times. One of the ladies is very condescending and gives us misinformation almost every time. Everyone I know loves it there, but has the same complaint. I really wish they would fix it. We drive across the county to come there. And are more than willing to continue too for Dr. Meier. Close and convenient to Bay View residents, but horrible, unhelpful front desk staff. They couldn't find our information in their database due to a clerical error, and they refused to believe that we had ever been to the clinic! So we were treated as a new client and told we had to wait a month for the next appointment. "Sorry - you're not in our system." Brother. After 4 years of bringing our dog there! Finally got a different staff-person to reluctantly try looking under our address and phone number in order to find our dog's medical records - and discover that our records seemed to have gotten merged with another client's. Even then - it was like pulling teeth. No apology. Somehow this must have been MY fault. "What do you want me to do with these records?" "Uh - fax them to my NEW vet. Thanks." Not worth the headache of dealing with this staff. We had to switch vets in order to get our new puppy seen in time for puppy manners class. We switched to the Small Animal Hospital on the East side of Milwaukee - they got us in the same day. Friendly, courteous staff, excellent doctor. Couldn't be happier with the new vet! read more

One of the vets here, Dr. Thomas, is fantastic. He was recommended to me shortly after I moved to Milwaukee. The problem (and the reason I stopped taking my cats there) was that I'd make an appointment with Dr. Thomas, get there, and be told that he wasn't available, but that a newer (and less enthusiastic) vet was available. My recent experience with Dr. Thomas was very positive. I had a foster dog that had been hit by a car. She was scared and we were unsure of her injuries. Dr. Thomas was extremely gentle with her while he did the exam. An xray showed that she she had 4 pelvic fractures. Dr. Thomas took the time to explain all of my options to me. He was honest about his surgical abilities and suggested I get a second opinion from a surgical specialists. After my surgical consult, we ended up with the treatment plan Dr. Thomas originally suggested. He is a caring and kind vet. They work well with the rescue group I am with, offering discounts and the ability to pay off our bill over time. I have not had any negative experiences with the front office staff. I took my dogs here for years. Recently things REALLY went downhill. They failed to perform heartworm tests when my dogs were brought in. They then refused to approve a 3rd party filling the heartworm pills because Community Vet. failed to perform these tests. They then expected me to pay for the visit to correct their mistake. In addition one of the vets gave TERRIBLE advice to wait and see on an issue one of my dogs was having. It resulted in two more paid visits and weeks of discomfort for my dog. To top it all off it's a gamble if the person answering the phone is going to be polite or short and rude. Go elsewhere. read more

There are a number of comments about the front desk staff. I have never had a problem. They have always been professional and courteous. But even if they screamed and swore at me I would still return. I am there for top quality health care for my elderly dog, not to make friends. Received horrible service from this clinic. Receptionists were snippy and when I told them I had a problem they got defensive instead of being apologetic. I brought my cat in with a scab on his neck. All they did for me was remove his collar. I could have done that for free but I didn't because I thought the sore might get worse and it did - $290.00 worth and an animal hospital visit. The Mayfair animal hospital vet found problems with his ears, two kinds of infections and possibly even worse. She did the right thing and put a cone on his head and provided suave to help dry out the bloody wound. Lesson learned. If you want your pet to get worse bring then to Community Veterinary Clinic. My mother took her dog to this vet since he was a pup mostly because it was in the neighborhood and convenient. This clinic may be okay to go to for a routine shot, but I wouldn't trust taking my goldfish here. When her dog needed medical attention the most, they could not get him in for 3 weeks. They had zero compassion or empathy for her situation or the dog. When I called to have his records sent to an alternate vet, they required a cost. Word to the wise, this place does not accommodate emergency situations even if your pet is dying. read more

Unfortunately, my cat needed to be put down due to thyroid disease and no longer responding to medication. It happened pretty much overnight that she went downhill. I called Community Vet, where her records are on Thursday afternoon to bring her in to be put down. After putting me on hold, the woman came back on and said they could get me in on Saturday morning. I laughed and said my cat is dying now and would be dead on her own by then. I hung up and called a humane veterinarian, Lakeside Animal Hospital, which was able to get me in within the hour. I have owned cats for 30+ years so have a great deal of experience with veterinary care. Dr. Heidi Meier is absolutely superb! She is knowledgeable, patient, empathetic, and most of all has her priorities straight. She is there for the well being of the animal! This is evident from the moment you see her with your pet. She spends the time necessary to do what is needed for your pet, and she is always available should a crisis occur. I have taken my cats in for routine care, as well as ongoing chronic health concerns. Bar none, she is the best you will find no matter where you look. She was recommended to me by an employee at Bentleys, and two standing in line behind me echoed the advice I was being given. My family has been very happy and impressed with Dr. Crowley. He took care of our dog for years. In 2009, we admitted our dog to the emergency hospital late on a Friday night. Dr. Crowley called us the next morning to check on how all of us were doing. We made the heartbreaking decision to put our dog down 3 days later when he wasn't responding to aggressive treatment at the emergency hospital. Dr. Crowley stayed involved throughout this difficult time, we also got a very nice sympathy card from him afterwards. It really meant a lot to us, not many vets stay involved once your pet is in another hospital. We adopted a shelter cat a few months later and Dr. Crowley is wonderful with her also. You can tell he really loves animals and his job. I haven't had any bad experiences with the receptionists either, they've always been very courteous. read more

I started going to this vet because it was near where I live, but after working with Dr. Thomas, I go there because he goes way above and beyond for the animals he sees. I came in with my dog after my dog got attacked by other dogs, and he and his staff stayed an extra 6 hours to save my dog. He charges reasonable rates, and it's obvious he loves his job. He went out of his way to check up on my dog to make sure he was okay. I will never go to a different vet, as long as I live in the area!! read more

The prices are ALOT cheaper than any other vet clinic ive been to in Milwaukee, and Dr. Monica is so awesome and extremely concerned when it comes to an animals needs. WHen i lost my dog two years ago she kept calling to check up on us and see how we were coping with his loss because it was obvious our dog loved her taking care of him. The other vets are nice, but Dr. Monica is really compassionate about her job, and if she feels the dogs health is in bad shape she might get a little edgy with the owner, but its all for the animals. I read some complaints about front desk staff but I find them to be perfectly nice. Even if the receptionist were rude I would still give this place five stars. This would be a 5 star review if I based on it the care we receive from Dr. Thomas. However, the front desk and the techs are awful! Every encounter I've had with these ladies, whether over the phone or in person, is nothing short of rude. I have a cat who is pretty unhealthy, and I have to bring him in often for blood testing and frequent visits with Dr. Thomas. Every time I call to make an appointment, I feel as though I am bothering the women at the front desk. As if it isn't their job to schedule visits. And they constantly talk over me while I try and explain what this visit is for. When I check out, they act again as though they are bothered by the fact they need to take payment. Well, I ask, what the f*^k are you doing behind the desk then?? They seem to give not even the slightest shit about any animals you may bring in, and I'm saying this not only from the interaction they give me when I check in, I have seen them do it to every person who walks in the door while I'm waiting to be called to the exam room. More often than not, you have to stand at the counter and wait for them to finish their conversation amongst themselves before they will acknowledge you are there. I hate to write all this, but I just had yet another shitty experience twice today, once while there for an appointment, and another when I called back about some paperwork that these dipshits couldn't figure out was sent for me. Dr. Thomas is an amazing vet who clearly knows his stuff, he has worked with my cat (as well as my other 3 more healthy pets) in an honest and inquisitive manner. He explores all possible options and thoroughly explains each potential course of action. I really love him! You can clearly see this man adores animals and the science of taking care of them. This would be a five star review for him, if it weren't for the1 star service of the rest of the crew. It's too bad he has a bunch of assholes at his front desk. read more

After Dr Thomas left this facility i feel things have gone downhill; after being prescribed medications with no side effect explanations either on the pill container or verbally from Dr Meier i have lost my best friend and after that happening wouldn't you think your vet would call to ask what had happened; don't get your hopes up too high because when they list their hours those are the only hours they care about; maybe that is why Dr Thomas left because i believe this vet facility is now ran by a big corporate company that pushes for make more money for us and push more services. When i had the appointment for my pooch being injured they were more focused on trimming nails and cleaning ears; look around and you can see the majority of new staff; corporate takes over and the concerned and good honest people leave. My first and last experience at community vet clinic was the worst experience I have ever had at any business, vet or otherwise. My lab was attacked by another dog and, new to the Bayview area, I had no local vet and randomly selected them to call. When I told them what happened and asked if he could be seen, the lady I spoke with first told me no that they were booked but then after putting me on hold, told me one of their doctors was done early with surgeries and was available to see him. Mind you, I would have been perfectly understanding if they could not see him and I would have taken him elsewhere or to the emergency vet clinic I work at (which was not my initial idea only because it is 30 mins away) (but in hindsight was what I should have done). When I got to the clinic and walked in with my bleeding dog, one of the receptionists (dark hair) looked at me disgusted and said "would you mind waiting outside with him?" Not all with it, I turned around and walked him outside and stood there for a couple seconds in the cold and windy weather while I got a grip on what just happened. I then stormed inside and asked them how long they expected me to stand outside in the cold with my injured dog and let them know I was more than willing to go elsewhere. I explained to them how extremely rude and unbelievable it is to basically tell someone their dog is bleeding too much and you need to wait outside. FYI I didn't immediately go elsewhere because I didn't want to waste anymore time trying to find a vet. He could have had internal injuries or something that I could not see. A bit later, the female doctor came out and took us back outside to look him over. After getting more information she said she was going to take him in the back to look him over. I came back inside and dark-haired receptionist who seriously needs a reality check began to say condescendingly that she made us walk out because she was concerned about infection control, transmittable diseases, and OSHA. which I then responded I work at an emergency vet clinic, used to work at family practice. I am perfectly aware of blood transmittable diseases but this is a hospital setting and that is not the way you handle it. You take the animal into a room or in the back immediately, you follow them around with a rag and sanitizer, you wrap a towel on their wound (which I had, just needed to get him in the door so I could put it back on), you keep other dogs away, bug you don't tell them to wait outside all disgusted. She responded to my vet experience by saying "well maybe your clinics aren't up to date on their OSHA and infectious disease protocol". At that point I withdrew from arguing with the idiot. I sat and waited for the doctor to update me with the plan of action and what she found after cleaning odie up and examining him. 25 mins later. Nothing. So I asked what was going on and they said he was being stitched up. Uuuuuggghhhhh. Why would you not talk to me first?! I figured he'd need stitches and of course I was going to pay for it but you ALWAYS talk to the owners before doing anything. What if I didn't have the money? It was $250. And on the medical records that I took with me it says "owner elected" that treatment plan. I never elected anything. That is so illegal! In the end, my pup was fine and that's all that matters. One of his stitches came out and they did a really crappy job at bandaging his wound so I ended up having to take him to a different doctor but as I said, my boy is A-ok so that's all that matters.
