The boats by the dock house
    Wei W.

Row, row, row your boat Gently down the stream ... Well, it's obviously much easier sung than done. So, we decided to try a 90-minute rowing class through CRI's Living Social voucher. And we rowed. The rowing class was a great introduction to the sport. We started off with 10 minutes of basic instruction on the rowing machines indoors, with Dorian guiding us through the rowing procedure. Then, it was off to the barge. The first time I came here I had Megan as the group instructor; the second time I had Sandy. Both were great at teaching beginners the timing, positioning, and terminology associated with your typical 8-man rowing. Feathering and squaring my oar became second nature, while catching the water and finishing the stroke was dependent on my timing with the person in front of me. By the 15-minute mark, my group of beginners were on our way to rowing for 5 strokes, then 10, then a minute, and then for 2 minutes straight. Now only if we had a big, burly drum master to improve our efficiency with a steady beat! My only feedback for improvement? Speedier communication. I registered for my second visit a few weeks prior to the class and wanted to confirm my attendance. Almost two weeks later I received multiple responses from different CRI customer service folks confirming my registration, but only after I'd reached out to the main regatta site and left multiple messages on their landline. Perhaps I'll try sculling next ...

Other than that, it was a great trip! It's a nice mix of peaceful trees and city views. I also paddled through a sailing team practice, which was cool. The boats were in great shape. The life jackets were showing their age, but I guess that's what you get with rentals. They estimated 1.5 - 2 hours for this trip, and it took me about an hour.

Fast forward now, PaddleBoston has 7 locations! These locations include: Waltham, Allston/Brighton, Somerville, Medford, Newton, Cambridge, & Stoneham. I highly recommend kayaking from Allston/Brighton! Very clear path, that is not as buggy as kayaking in Newton (from my friend and I's memory). We kayaked from here all the way down to past Harvard Sq. area. Did not take long at all. We were able to kayak back in 17 minutes. Their rates are reasonable, as well. This was our first time doing single kayaks rather than double. We did the up to 90 min single kayaks, $32/each. In my opinion, 90 min is more than enough time but doing the one way to Kenmore Square also seems like great fun that we'll definitely have to give a try next time. Cannot recommend kayaking enough though. It's very peaceful & honestly a nice activity to do with family and friends. Warning: you will get a KILLER arm workout out of this. 10/10

City Experience, I…read moream writing to provide feedback regarding our recent dining cruise experience. I attended the cruise with another church member who was considering booking a future event, but unfortunately, several operational issues negatively impacted our evening. First, the seating arrangement was poorly organized. Our table was placed too close to the exit, creating a bottleneck as guests went outside to take photos, despite ample open space on the other side of the room. We ultimately had to relocate the table ourselves. Second, there was a 20- to 30-minute delay in opening the buffet because the DJ failed to make the announcement. As a result, the food was cold by the time we served ourselves, despite being first in line. When we brought this to the manager's attention, she explained that the air conditioning cooled the food down. This explanation is concerning, as properly functioning warming pans should keep the food hot. Because of this, I lost my appetite, and my colleague was discouraged from planning her event on this vessel. Additionally, we believe the cruise should separate adult and family dining areas. Children were running around the buffet space, which posed a safety hazard given the potential for accidental burns from hot food equipment. Based on these factors, we rate the food a 1 out of 10 and the DJ a 6 out of 10. Despite these significant issues, the service we received from two of your staff members was exceptional. Our waitress, Ms. Fiona, demonstrated outstanding professionalism, compassion, and initiative. She frequently checked on us, apologized for the issues, and even brought us a well-done steak and dessert to ensure we had something to eat. Similarly, Ms. Dee went above and beyond her duties with her kindness and helpfulness to ensure we still enjoyed our evening. Both Ms.Fiona and Ms.Dee deserve a 10+ rating for their exemplary service. I hope this feedback helps improve future cruise operations. Best regards,

a BYOB Brews Cruise around Boston Harbor?! Yes, please!…read more Cycleboat Boston, based in Charlestown, is a family-owned company providing both public tours and private charters for up to 20-26 guests. Each boat has a central table with ice-filled coolers that is surrounded by 12 bike seats for passengers to pedal to power the boat but don't worry! You don't have to pedal, there is an outboard motor. And if pedaling isn't your thing at all or there's more than 12 of passengers, each boat has a comfy lounge area in the back that is set up for conversation, sipping on your drink and drinking in the views! All cruises are BYOB (cans only and no hard alcohol - a craft beer lovers dream) and you can also bring food/snacks on board! For our cruise, we enjoyed charcuterie cones from Kured.co and Scuba & I obviously had to bring along some on-theme beers including Cushnoc Brewing's 'Can't Buy Backbone' IPA, Wormtown Brewing's Summer Ale and a pounder of Montauk Brewing's Summer Ale (all purchased at Dion's in Waltham). As someone who is happiest in/on/near the water with a beer in hand and has so much pride in my city; this was a dream! I am actively looking for any excuse to get back out on a Cycleboat!
