    Washington Care Center

    Washington Care Center

My grandmother lived at Washington Care for many years. I frequently visited her and I felt…read morecomfortable that she was somewhere where the people were treating her right and with respect. She always seemed in high spirits for her age and her health. My family placed her in Washington care on account that she was legally blind and she had dementia. She had her nurses that she loved and rarely complained about the food or activities. She was happy and so was my family. When my loved one fell ill and was living her last days in Washington Care, we asked for a hospice nurse to be by her bedside to watch over her and keep her comfortable. They made sure that this request was taken care of and my family came to see her frequently (everyday) for the last few weeks of her life. The last week she was very much so already gone. She was in a sleep-like state, and we not responsive other than looking towards us. The night before she passed away, her 3 carat diamond ring was stolen off of her finger. My mother had taken her other jewelry a few days prior, but had left the ring due to the fact her hands were so swollen. Mind you, the ring was fake, we had exchanged the diamond years before, worried that something like this would happen. But my 91 year old grandmother did not know this, and it was her treasure. She often talked about it and was thrilled to pass it on to her children. It made her happy, and it was one of the few things that she had left to call her own. When my mother noticed the ring was stolen, we immediately reported it. We knew the time period, down to the hours, that the ring had to be pulled off of my grandmother's finger. To my surprise, the nurses did not show a bit of worry, the manager said that we would handle this at a later time, and never showed remorse at that later time. No one seemed concerned, and quite frankly, no one helped us to do anything to try and find the ring. They repeatedly said that "we trust our staff". The nursing home is monitored by security cameras 24/7 and is only accessible by those that know the front door code. With in 6 hours, my grandmother's only treasure was stolen and the person that did this, did it on her death bed. Washington Care did nothing to help my family. We hired a private investigator, but Washington Care was uncoorporative with us and our motive. They did not want the burden, and the night my grandmother passed they no longer felt the need to bear it. My heart breaks for my grandmother, who loved those nurses dearly. Washington Care almost had a 5 star from us... Until the last days. Their lack of empathy for our family, compassion for my grandmother, and concern about the integrity of their staff is horrible.A wedding ring was stolen off of a dying woman's hand, while on her death bed, in their facility by someone that works for them.... And they did nothing short of stand by and watch it happen. Disgusting. My grandmother always said that things would turn up missing or she would call me and say someone stole something of hers... we always thought it was her mind going downhill. I now think otherwise.

After stumbling across the one review of MMRC that I see posted in Yelp, I cannot let this gross…read moreinjustice go unaddressed, nor can I fathom how anyone could give MMRC less than a 5-star rating ... and I would go far beyond that if I were allowed to do so. My first experience with MS. Rehab was in 2008, I believe, when my wife -- who was wheelchair-bound by Multiole Scleroses and severe scoliosis -- had undergone urostomy surgery. I spent every night in her room with her for three weeks, and I eye-witnessed the best nursing and rehabilitation care one could hope to find anywhere on Planet Earth, not merely in the Jackson community. Her room and all areas of the facility were (and still are!) very well designed to meet the needs of professional proficiency and to extend the highest imaginable level of comfort and a nurturing atmosphere for patients, family, and visitors in terms of lovely decor and high quality, state-of-the-art equipment and furnishings -- all maintained immaculately by courteous staff who diligently avoid disturbing either activities or rest for patients and their guests. And the food has no resemblance to ordinary "hospital food" -- MMRC's is very, very tasty, fresh, nutritional, and downright good ... and I am a picky eater! Eight years later in 2016, I suffered a stroke, after which I was very fortunate to be admitted to MMRC for rehabilitation so I could return to functioning in my career. As chance would have it, my MS-disabled wife underwent a surgery that was essential to her relief of chronic pain as well as her functionality. MMRC admitted her under unusual circumstances because the two of us would have to learn how to help each other with tasks which we suddenly found ourselves incapacitated to perform individually as we'd always done. This time I experienced the extraordinary care of MMRC both as an observer of the care given to my wife (whose room was in another section of the facility from mine because our needs for treatment were different) AND I myself experienced the Center as a patient. My wife and I were able to enjoy meals together and visit in each other's room as well as the quite comfortable public spaces. Our therapists were notably outstanding, taking personal interests in our rehabilitation and in every other aspect of our well-being. Both of us soon counted a number of personnel as new friends who demonstrated that they cared deeply for us. Since leaving MMRC as a patient and as a family member, I've heard personal accounts from numerous others who would subscribe to and endorse the same testimony I've given here, no doubt having more tributes to offer, in fact. Several of them suffered from spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and many other forms of accidents and afflictions that I might assume were more traumatic and threatening to living a quality lifestyle than were the issues which put Anne and me under MMRC's care. I could write pages and pages more, but I believe I should stop here. for the sake of brevity. I assure those who read this that nothing of what I've said is exaggerated, embellished, or otherwise hyperbolic. I am and always will be indebted to MS. Methodist Rehab for their world-class service to my wife and to me. MMRC is among U.S. News & World Report's highest rated rehabilitation centers in the country, and that list includes facilities serving substantially larger metropolitan areas than ours. I know of no institution of any kind anywhere that could match the high esteem in which I hold Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center!
