My journey began when I finally couldn't stand the arthritis pain in my knees that was keeping me from doing anything fun, sometimes even just getting off the couch. I'd fallen a couple of times and had no energy. By a pure miracle, I walked into Anytime Fitness Freret, and met Eric Capers, head trainer and owner of Pro Fitness Trainers. Eric is a physical therapist as well as a personal trainer, and I trusted that he had the knowledge I needed to make progress without injury, so I signed on. Little by little, learning every day, I got stronger, restored my balance, and was able to walk longer distances. Four years later, by consistent work, paying attention to food (not starving, not stuffing), I have lost 40 pounds, dropped my LDL cholesterol by 45 points, walked in three 5k events and the Crescent City Classic 10k (what????) and my doctor says I've added at least five years to my life. I'm 75 now, planning on lots more. If you've been thinking about it, putting it off, getting down on yourself, call Eric and get a free fitness assessment. You can't go wrong. Thanks for everything, Eric!

He's friendly and doesn't yell at me like a bootcamp drill sergeant, but he also doesn't let me cheat or get away with anything other than my 100%. He does a free initial consultation where he sees where you're at and understands what you want to work on. I bought the 12-session package and I'm currently halfway through - we've been working out for 3 weeks so far and I've definitely been seeing some changes. I got a trainer because I wanted to maximize the efficiency of my workouts (instead of just doing 30 min on the elliptical by myself and wondering why I'm not seeing any changes) and it has definitely paid off. also, I LOVE the ease of scheduling appointments with him, it's all online and I'll get a text reminder sent to me a day before our scheduled workout. After the first couple of workouts I was so sore, but I can definitely tell that I'm getting stronger and more toned.

I was asked a lot of questions by the trainer as to what I was looking for and she focused on those techniques to help me achieve my goals. Not having to "come up with exercises" is a plus for me. I signed up for the Elite membership which averages about 3 workout sessions a week. As a plus, initially and every 2 months you'll receive an InBody Scanner to measure your body composition (muscle/fat %) . Talk about an eye opener?! So far I've truly enjoyed the high-intensity studio experience, which combines cardio and strength equipment (treadmill, water rowers, TRX suspension trainer, weights). Orangetheory stands out from other fitness regimens with interval training, and individual monitoring via heart rate technology. It's very motivating to "view and track" my progress during and after a workout. I'm still a bit confused with the verbiage and understanding of the color codes but I get a good sweat each time so that's enough for me. This personalized approach helps me to maximize my calorie burn. Coach Preston is super motivating and the music and exercise selections have all been fresh and different each sessions. I also love the flexibility to attend different locations. I'm early on in my journey but so far it's been good.

So I had heard very mixed things about this organization over the years. A trainer I greatly…read morerespect told me that they are cult like and if you're not 100% in, you're not in it all. They advertised a six week shape up plan, I spoke to the trainer Kerry over the phone and basically told him what I'm about, not really a joiner, kind of like to do my work and get out of there, in reasonable shape would like to be in better shape for my wedding in December. I was told that I could come in and get measured and then go to my first class which was supposed to be tonight, as they were closed for the holiday, typically it would be Monday Wednesday and Friday for six weeks. I was also told that I could come in and get measured anytime. A six week challenge sounded good, the price was reasonable $350, And I felt like they were worth a shot. I also asked that after three months of self-imposed Covid isolation, I really didn't want to know my weight or fat content and I would be happy to just know how much I lost at the end. On the phone, he agreed, but now the challenger was full, he was not willing to work with me. He also said they would email me paperwork to complete which never arrived. I was so wrong to give this place a chance, I always give people the benefit of the doubt. After just getting back from my future father-in-law's funeral in South Carolina which ate up the last week and a half of my time. I showed up to be measured, not work out, this morning, And was told they were completely full. And I reminded him of the phone call which he then I guess realized he had taken. Now granted there was a class going on I had no idea there was going to be one in progress and I was willing to wait until the class was over or come back later, for the five minutes that he would measure me and put me on the scale. This was even after he told me that they were not at my beck and call (pretty rude) and that they had other paying clients, which of course I realize. I offered to come back at a more convenient time this afternoon. I should have walked out then, this man was acting like a jerk, not a professional. My advice is unless you really want to be part of a fitness community and be there all the time, you may want to look elsewhere. I am not a 'social joiner' as I have a demanding life that requires my full attention. I have enough friends, what I needed was a trainer and maybe some accountability. Kerry then said this wouldn't be a good fit and he didn't suggest that I take part in the class. I asked him if that meant he would not sign me up and he said yes. Who needs this kind of aggravation and by the way they were working out without masks indoors. That alone should have been a red flag. No thanks, more trainers in Nola who want to work.

I am a beginner to the gym workout life. I've always worked out at home with the little equipment…read morethat I have such as bands, free weights, and running around the neighborhood. I used to be a part of a commercial gym prior to joining PFRX. It was one of those gems that were always clean, had a nice inexpensive monthly rates, and many many machine options. The problem for me was, that every time I went, I had to wait a turn or alter my workout due to the lack of availability of machines. I found that when I would be able to work out I had to somewhat rush myself through my workout because people would always ask me how many more reps do I have left. So I begin to venture out and look for another gym home one that could accommodate all of my needs. That is what PFRX has done for me. There are friendly and knowledgeable staff during staffing hours, location is always clean, if I have any questions on how to use a machine properly during staff hours, someone is happy to help me. They have trainers available. And most importantly for me, they aren't as crowded as your commercial gyms, which allows me the access to mini machines, and to be able to get a workout in without someone asking am I using this machine or how many reps do I have left? For me, those are huge factors! Now, yes, this is not a commercial gym and the price is very reasonable when you are investing in your health and wellness. I am truly enjoying my time at PFRX and I am really looking forward to our relationship in the coming years. Oh wait! I didn't mention the variety of machines and services they have.
