The business model at Fishers Direct Family Care is just different and allowed me to have an amazingly proactive conversation with my doctor without having to worry about any extra bills. I also love the convenience of knowing i can contact the office at any time for a consult that is all part of the annual fee. No more worrying if I should call or not call! Thank you Dr. Patel!

A relative of mine saw this doctor two times: In April 2018, for a "Welcome to Medicare" free exam and then over a year later in May 2019 for a preventive exam. Medicare denied both claims submitted because as they told my aunt when she called them, "they were coded incorrectly by the doctor's office and needed to be coded using G0402 for the Welcome to Medicare Visit and G0438 or G0439 for the other yearly exam, depending on which code is applicable." When Medicare denied both claims, my aunt and uncle contacted the office and were told to call a 3rd party biller responsible for the office's insurance claims. They called this 3rd party biller every time they received a monthly statement to explain what Medicare told them about the coding and how it should be corrected so payment could be made by insurance. The 3rd party biller took the information and referred this "up the chain of command" so that coding could be corrected by the office. Unfortunately, after several months, the last time my relatives called the 3rd party billing company they were told that the practice had been contacted but had stated that "the coding was to stay as submitted." So, of course, since the practice would not correct it, Medicare will not pay it. What makes this so frustrating is they do not understand, nor do I, why the doctor's office refuses to correct this error. Now my relatives have been forced to set up payment arrangements (or go to collections) on the amount due for the May 2019 visit, which they can ill afford. And when they asked about the April 2018 visit, they were told that the Welcome to Medicare free exam was "still pending" with insurance and had also been denied (again, due to coding). My gosh this is a free exam!!! Quite honestly, this is somewhat confusing to me. If Medicare clearly stated to my relatives that the coding submitted was incorrect and provided the correct coding information, then why would the practice refuse to correct it. I felt it was necessary to bring this to future patients' attention because this might make a difference when choosing a physician.

I was followed by Anna Edwards, MD, a family practitioner with Community Health Network, for a…read moreperiod of about three years until her subsequent marriage and birth of another child led to her leaving the practice to focus on parenting for a bit. I've decided to edit my review because, upon reflection, I realized that my review of her as a physician was being tainted by my concerns about the overall practice. While she certainly had an influence of practice standards, ultimately some of my negative experiences occurred as she was transitioning out. Thus, she's not really to blame. Truthfully, I loved working with Dr. Edwards. She was my second physician with the practice and I immediately felt a click with her as we shared similar personalities. She also tapped quickly into my resistance to seeking help and worked hard to build trust. I became a "priority" for her and she made it well known that if I called I was to get through and to get scheduled. There's no question that she went above and beyond with me on several occasions, though I've never been one to go to the doctor on an incredibly regular basis. She made note once of probably trusting my own opinions about my care, I liked that she was also confident enough to challenge me when necessary. By the time we did actually have a semi-emergency once, I trusted her enough to follow-up on a urology referral for which I was truly hesitant. It's difficult to get my trust and Dr. Edwards truly had it. I believed she cared and trusted her opinion. As a result, I did more follow-up and grew to feel like my follow-up care was important. It was toward the end that I struggled, moreso with the practice than actually with her. During one time when she was out, I ended up seeing another physician in the practice with whom I just plain didn't click at all. My guess is that this was around the time Dr. Edwards decided to leave, because not long after I received a letter informing me she was leaving the practice and that they didn't have anyone else to follow me. Negligently (and I complained), they referred me to four possibilities - 3 in Hamilton County and one pediatrician. I live in Lawrence and am 50. So, while I had issues with the actual practice I really valued the positive physician/patient relationship I had with Dr. Edwards. I ultimately ended up leaving Community Health Network due to the poor referrals and lack of follow-up, but I think Dr. Edward's influence helped me determine the next appropriate setting and made me better informed to find the right physician for me with whom I continue to be seen.

The nurse practitioner doesn't listen. I'll explain things and she'll be nodding but then asks a question that signifies she wasn't listening or doesn't understand. Between that and the reception staff I won't be going back. I'd rather go to an office that I know the staff is nice, competent, and genuinely interested in my care. Here that's not the case.

At some point or another, my needs have put me in front of all of the docs and though I do have my primary, I have no qualms seeing any of the others. The staff here is also very efficient, friendly and helpful. I wish I knew all their names, because there are a couple who just make going to the doctor more pleasant than it usually is. Though I would love to rant and rave about my own doc - his great, easy, reassuring bedside manner and thoroughness - I won't call him out because he does not currently take new patients. However, I've referred friends and family to the practice and they have all received most excellent care from Dr. Walker. Other standouts for me here: the nurse practitioners, the referral coordinator and the convenience of an adjacent x-ray facility. I must also give huge kudos to the on-site physical therapy provided by Philip Beaverman, P.T. - he is the "PT Whisperer" and has helped me get back into action in record time on two separate occasions.
