I have been a patient with Community Health Network for 5 years and have noticed that they often attempt to pad their billing by providing unnessary care or misrepresenting what care is provided. My most recent wellness visit is a perfect example of this. I went to my primary care physician for my annual wellness visit. The nurse took my vitals and gave me a flu shot. My doctor brought up 2 issues during this visit. The first - insomnia - is no longer an issue, and I informed my doctor of this immediately after she asked about it. The second - high cholesterol - was just briefly mentioned by my doctor since she did not have my lab results at the time. Again, my doctor brought up these issues and the extent of "care" I received was just her asking a question. I was billed for an "office visit" and the codes submitted to my insurance indicated the additional charges were related to diagnosis/care related to insomnia and high cholesterol. Ever since Governor Braun made the ill-informed pronouncement that he would eliminate ALL major Indy hospital networks' nonprofit status in two years if they did not bring costs down to rural networks' costs (WHAT? Rural networks are starved for talent, equipment, and resources!!), Community Network has been a mess. They stopped communicating, allowed nearly a month to pass before letting me know my doctor had quit, and sent a no-reply message to offer two alternatives, one of which was a doctor I had quit after one visit. I knew I would likely need to leave them once they announced a two-stage confirmation process just to log in to my chart. With just my phone and no computer, I could not comply with their requirement. So, how am I to reply to the automated appointments for services that I had not asked for, nor expected? Had spinal surgery this morning with Dr Sloan. The whole staff was great! very attentive and did not rush my progress/recovery after surgery. They worked really well together like an oiled machine. I just moved to the area looking for a DR to help treat my diabetes. I pay for my DR care out of pocket being that I'm self employed. This place is clearly a money grab. I suggest seek elsewhere for treatment. My balance on labs was roughly 20 dollars they cancelled future appointments behind 20 bucks. I've attempted to pay this balance on several occasions and yet to receive anybody or anything I can pay this to. They make it nearly impossible to pay them. If I can give them lower than one star I most definitely would. This is probably the worst doctor experience I've ever had. They ran blood work that I did not need because I've had previous Labs from my physician in Alabama brought it to him and they still tried to make me pay for their new lab work. All of these things are in date and current but I guess they couldn't make a dollar off that so that wasn't good enough. I don't have enough bad words to say about them. The healthcare system in America well in Indiana is sad to say the least. I will continue driving back to Alabama every time I need to see a doctor or need to see my position. I had a bilateral mastectomy performed and the physician damaged the trapezius attachment on the left and dismissed my concerns. I had to have scapular reconstruction at Mass General but lost most of the trapezius muscle due to cover up. I also have many trapped intercostal nerves on the right and the physician I saw at the U of Michigan left and being over 65 that MD opted out of Medicare. If the community physician had not covered up my concerns I would have seen the MD earlier. I still CAN NOT wear a bra etc. Community destroyed my life!! read more

No wonder the state of medical care is in shambles. Scheduled a new patient appointment & was told the cost would be $100. Then received a quote for $125. When invoice was received , I was billed for $173.25. After 3 months of making phone calls and speaking to 6 different people and not receiving return calls to rectify the error, I paid the overcharges and moved on to never return to the Community Health Network. Worst hospital I've ever been in. The floor nurses were great, so I don't want to diss them at all. But everything else was horrible. The check-in process with the security guards was poor because the blonde bald guard who works every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the ER check-in was a total jerk. He was rude every time we had to deal with him. And then this happened: My daughter had surgery and was moved to a patient floor. On this particular Sunday, the main entrance was closed for some reason, and we had to go back to our car and detour to go to the ER. There you have to give them your drivers license for scanning for a visitor's sticker you wear. The security guard looked up which patient we were visiting (my daughter) and the room # and issued the sticker along with a card with the entrance code for that patient wing. As I was attaching the visitor sticker badge, I laid my required drivers license on the counter, and in my haste and anxiousness to get to my daughter, I left the drivers license there with the guard. Instead of calling up to the floor where he knew I was going and saying I'd left my drivers license there, he just put it into lost and found, apparently. When I discovered my license was not in my wallet, I went back to retrieve it (this a couple days and an hour drive later). Got the same security guard who said, "Oh, yeah, you left it with me." with a big grin on his face (because his mask was under his chin). Eventually, I did get the license back. And I hope I never have to go there again! read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE GETTING TREATMENT!!!! If I could give negative stars I would. I went to community east to get a skin condition checked out in May this year. I called to set up an appointment and when I got there they couldn't find it and instead of setting one up they just checked me in to the emergency room without my consent. All the doctor did was take a blood test and send me to IU health. At the end of it they charged me a few hundred dollars for the blood tests, which was covered by my insurance, and then I got charged an additional FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS because it was an emergency visit when I tried to set up an appointment. Now since they maxed out my insurance IU Health is trying to charge me an extra $700 for just telling me the same thing community health network did. I should also mention that all they did was tell me there was no way to cure my condition and I just had to wait it out. It has been 7 months and I still have the condition (Pityriasis Rosea). It's a terrible rash that spreads all over your entire body and it has made my life miserable. The worst part of it all, is that my grandmother had these pills she was given by her dermatologist for a separate skin condition, and now that I've been taking them for a week, the condition is starting to go away. So the doctors made me wait this long for no reason, charged me all this money, and didn't even give me the treatment I needed. Please for your own sake, go somewhere else for any medical needs. This is not a health organization, it is a criminal organization; they do not care about your well-being AT ALL, they care about getting as much money out of you as possible and whoever works for this company and takes advantage of people who need medical care should be ashamed of themselves and I can't wait until you guys get the karma you deserve. read more

I have a wonderful FP doctor through CHE. Unfortunately, as health issues come up and I need to see specialists, I'm finding frustration with specialists in the network. Case in point, Diabetes and Endocrinology. Takes 3 months for an appointment, then due to a mixup on my part, I arrived at CHE instead of their office. I called right away when I found out but was told I could have 10 minutes to arrive or be rescheduled. Ok, protocol etc but office staff kept asking if I hadn't received a letter for new patients. I understand I made a mistake but when the second staff member blamed me for not knowing the address, I'd had it. Their physician may or may not be fine but staff sucks and has no idea how to talk to peoplw read more

If it was possible to rate this location any lower I would. I am sitting here waiting now for over two hours to drop off a urine sample for my company. Now most might think that a urine drop is not as important as other medical attention,, well you will find the staff certainly believes that as well. While I was okay with the first few patients moving past me,, I soon found out they have two sides of the clinic. There is the medical side and the drug screening side. Now they will tell you it's separate,,, but it's the same people,, so when they decide they have slowed down enough,, they will shift an employee over to take care of you. Simply put, Community Medcheck Castleton will be truely hit or miss for your employees. I suggest you contract another vendor until someone important enough in managment decides to take customer service a little more serious. read more
