I was told I needed to prepay for the item which I did, and also paid for a service call of $150.00. The part arrived today and Caesar came back ASAP and began working on reinstalling the new system on the door. Understand that it was quite an ordeal and it took him a lot longer than either of us thought it would. He finished the work and stated that there would be a labor charge for the installation. The part I prepaid seem expensive, but... I agreed, he came back and that price had doubled... After all was said and done the total I paid was $981.88! YIKES! I contacted Emtek and asked them for the MSRP of the product they installed. The MSRP for the unit from the factory is $311! I found online that several suppliers and found the item for $248 .80 MSRP $311.00 Save $62.20 (20% OFF) + FREE SHIPPING at MyKnobs, Inc, 14 Bayville Ave Bayville, NY 11709. Gary diagnosed the issue quickly, cut a new sturdy metal key to force the lock open (as a temporary workaround), thereby protecting my only key from potential damage, and he coordinated with their shop to order a replacement lock, the permanent fix for a known issue with my make & model, which I can have installed at their shop in a few days. Gary also jumped/charged my vehicle's battery for 10 minutes so it had enough power for him to program two new fob keys, at a very reasonable price, and he counseled me regarding how long it would take to fully charge my battery, both via highway driving and by A/C charger. Gary was courteous and professional throughout the entire process, and he answered all my questions in a friendly and knowledgeable manner, with bonus techno background music playing from his van throughout! Gary transformed a bad morning into temporary fix PLUS positive steps toward a permanent solution which will protect me from future lockouts! He told me what he thought I needed, gave me a few options, and then let me make my decision. When his tech, Jim, came out to install he was courteous and respectful of my time. He had every component he needed for my install, made good use of his time, and was able to install everything in less time that I was told. He even came back out when the cable company made a change to my phone service and reconfigured my alarm. Here is the thing about alarm systems, though. There are so many local places who will give you the equipment for free and then charge an outrageous monitoring fee and lock you into a contract; worse than cell phone contracts if you ask me. I paid for my equipment, my monitoring fee is very reasonable, the service is great, and the monitoring is done locally. I loved my experience with Tri City and am sure I will be with my alarm company for many many years. I feel safe and secure in my home ... alone ... with no one to love me.
