I fall more into the can tolerate needles and like giving when I can, it helps the community and you never know when you might be the one that needs it. They do a lot of community drives all over the area so you can usually find a time and a place that they'll be close. AND they'll send you cards in the mail letting you know when they'll be there again. I know not everyone can give blood but if you can, you should. They make it as painless as possible and it really doesn't take that long. oh ya, they give you cookies when your done too, how can you say no!

(When I was 18, I was told I didn't weigh enough to give blood, so I've never had that much blood drawn.) The techs were amazing. They patiently and good-naturedly answered all my questions. My anxiety was in overdrive, so they had me lie down. There were two techs working together, so it went fairly quickly. They even told me after it was done, to just take it easy, and eat something and drink water as soon as I was able. They were awesome, and I really appreciated their professionalism and kindness.

It's sad when people automatically judge you based off something they don't even have knowledge of just because they we're told it was something wrong .the lady who was telling me I couldn't donate because of my tattoo wouldn't even allow me to tell her the meaning of it and it's origin. Her whole demeanor towards me changed completely just because she assumed I was a racist because of my tattoo, I never felt so dehumanized in my life especially being that I am the only black person in Springfield but with these particular tattoos.

Tanya decided to add deferrals to my account, with no medical basis, that require me to go around…read morehunting down paperwork saying I don't have conditions I've never had to begin with, that are atypical to the procedure first time donors who haven't even had a physical or anything yet. I refused to work with CSL Plasma because they would pull stunts like this, making me burn through my gas and time to prove I didn't have something I never had and that they had ZERO reason to suspect I had. I'd heard great things about BioLife and how different they were.....but clearly not. When calling in, there's apparently nothing the staff are willing or able to do to save me the time and gas to go hunting for documents Tanya just decided one day I should have to produce medical documents JUST to even get a physical and start THAT process. Gas isn't cheap, and I don't appreciate the headgames. I would like to think that are better ways to throttle the inflow of donors rather than asking someone to jump through hoops before there is even cause. IMPORTANT NOTE: I never indicated nor suggested that I had medical conditions, nor was I ever screened for any conditions. The deferrals have absolutely nothing to do with me other than them wanting me to drive around town for weeks getting all of this paperwork for them.

I've had multiple bruises from the needle having to be readjusted and each time you have a bruise a nurse has to check it out before you can donate again. Which means you wait. There are generally only 2 nurses working and if both are doing physicals, which happens, you wait a long time. I've also seen people have hot flashes and feel sick while donating. I donated a year and have seen that happens times. I've also been turned away from donating because it was assumed I have a cold. I have allergies so sometimes sound stuffed up. Overall, if I hadn't needed the cash so badly I would not have donated as much as I did.

For regular donors you should not have to answer all the same questions over and over. Beyond that there staff are professional, they offer promotions to try encourage regular donations (give often will earn you a new wardrobe of t-shirts). The app is useful for them and the donor with medical history and some test results from required tests. All in all it's a pleasant experience and your helping to save a life. So go give blood today!

She is literally the only person that has ever treated me bad and I have been donating there for about 10 years. She deferred me because I spoke up and told her that I don't want her to wait on me again. How sad is it that she thinks that she's punishing me by not allowing me donate when in fact, it's not me that she's punishing.. it's the sick, the ones who need our plasma. I'm not in need of anything, at all.. I don't need that $40..
