Great atmosphere - wildly over priced beer. 16oz pint for $10 is unacceptable. $10 glass of wine in a backyard setting ? Cmon.

Los Niños Taqueria in Decatur is the culinary equivalent of that tiny friend who somehow wins every…read morefight. The place is *small*. Not "cozy." Not "intimate." Small enough that if two people exhale at the same time, someone has to step outside. And yet -- the tacos are outrageously good. The shrimp tacos arrive like they have something to prove. The shrimp are perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed into warm tortillas with the confidence of a restaurant charging triple the price in Midtown. Then come the fish tacos: crispy, flaky, absurdly satisfying little miracles that make you temporarily forget every bad seafood taco you've suffered through in your life. There's barely any seating inside, but there are a couple of benches out back in the open air where you can sit, contemplate your life choices, and wonder why you've spent money at chain restaurants when this place exists. Now we must discuss the horchata situation. I am convinced horchata at Los Niños is either a legend, a social experiment, or a spiritual concept. They *never* have it. Ever. At this point, I assume someone walks in every morning asking for horchata and the staff simply whispers, "Not since the incident..." Still, none of it matters because the tacos are phenomenal. You leave slightly cramped, mildly confused about the beverage program, but deeply happy.

The space is very small, no more than 8 people can realistically eat inside but there's some outside tables by the back parking lot (with free parking). If you're looking for value and quality tacos, this is the spot! My only negative, the chips they serve are cold and kept in big plastic containers. They could do with a bit of heating but they taste amazing!

We visited after a graduation celebration and were looking forward to a memorable meal. The experience got off to a rough start with hosts who were not particularly warm or welcoming. Once seated, things only went downhill. Our waiter seemed disorganized from the beginning. We ordered appetizers first, but they arrived at different times, and to make matters worse, the graduate in our party received her main entrée at the same time the rest of us were receiving appetizers. I politely explained that it didn't make sense for one guest to be eating her entrée while everyone else was still eating appetizers and waiting for their meals. His response was confusing and didn't really address the issue, so we let it go. Unfortunately, the graduate's steak was served cold. Rather than preparing a fresh one, the restaurant simply took it back and returned it about two minutes later. It appeared to be the exact same steak based on how we had left it when it was sent back, and while I'm not sure whether restaurants typically reheat food or prepare a new dish altogether, this one was reheated. To make matters worse, the graduate ended up with a stomachache after eating it. As we continued waiting, our entrées never arrived. The waiter was polite but extremely inattentive. We repeatedly had to flag him down because he rarely checked on our table. After a VERY long wait, I asked about the rest of our meals. At that point, he admitted that he had forgotten to place our entree orders altogether. He then had to take all of our orders again and submit them to the kitchen. By the time our food finally arrived, we were no longer hungry and were extremely frustrated, despite remaining patient and courteous throughout the entire experience. The entrées were decent, but nothing exceptional, especially considering the extremely excessive wait and service issues. The waiter did bring a small dessert for the graduate, which was a nice touch, but it felt more like a complimentary gesture because he had forgotten our entrées than a genuine celebration of the occasion, especially given how disastrous the overall experience had been. What should have been a joyful graduation celebration turned into an exhausting and disappointing dining experience. While the waiter was polite, the service was slow, disorganized, and lacking attention to detail. Overall, this was a poor first experience and not one I would be eager to repeat.

There were so many tempting options on the menu, but we landed on the empanadas with mango slaw, birria tacos with a side of vegetables, and the enchiladas suizas. Every single dish was mouthwateringly delicious--nothing fell short of spectacular. Even the service stood out; our waitress was outstanding and made the whole experience even better. The portions are generous, and what really sets this place apart is the seasoning. Each dish had its own unique twist that elevated it well beyond your standard Mexican menu. The slow-cooked meat in both the empanadas and birria tacos was incredibly tender--so good it kept us going back for "just one more bite" long after we were full. And the tomatillo sauce on the enchiladas? Easily the best I've ever had--and I don't say that lightly. I'm a bit of a tomatillo sauce snob, and this one completely blew me away. We're just visiting the area, but this quaint little spot--with its charming covered patio--left a lasting impression on our trip. If you're local, this should be in your regular rotation. The atmosphere outside was perfect, especially with the warm weather. Inside felt a little average, so I'd say this is definitely more of a summer/outdoor spot. We started with chips, queso, and the salsa with peppers. The chips were just right--crunchy without being overly greasy. The queso was excellent, especially with the crispy top, and the salsa had a great balance of flavor and spice. My girlfriend ordered the chimichanga, and it was spot on. The shell was perfectly crisp and the meat inside was flavorful and tender. I got the off-menu fajitas with steak and shrimp--absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly, the shrimp was flavorful, and the grilled onions tied it all together. Even the rice on the side impressed me, which doesn't usually happen. We wrapped things up with churros for dessert. They were decent--not a standout, but still a nice finish. All of that for around $50? I was seriously impressed. Great meal, great service, and definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

They recently underwent some changes and have a new chef. It's a mezcal and tequila bar that serves great food as well. Parking is free. It's one of the best margaritas I've had at a restaurant in a while. It was so fresh and delicious. The bartender also let me sample some sotol which is a distilled spirit from a dasylirion plant. She described it as a mix of tequila and mezcal and the description was spot on. The menu isn't extensive and is composed of a few appetizers and tacos. I ordered the elote and carnitas, Al pastor and asada tacos. The tacos are 3 for $12 or 1 for $5. Everything was delicious and flavorful.
