In short, Colonial did a wonderful job on the roof, and the paint (I REALLY loved and still love the paint job throughout the interior and exterior) but Colonial failed in almost everything else, and Benjamin knows this because he ghosted me the many times I tried to reach out to him after moving in. The kitchen cabinets were not finished out, I was never provided the keys to my back door, they agreed to move my dryer vent, but broke it on the outside of my house when they did, and there were a few other things I had to handle that you all had been paid by the previous owner to complete. Despite my better judgment, I called Colonial only because it had JUST been five years, I thought perhaps the roof/gutter was under warranty. I explained that on the front corner of my house, it looked like birds had maybe pulled the shield somehow, and it looked like the shingles were starting to lift. Ben called me on May 28th and scheduled an appointment to come out and give it a look the following day which would have been May 29th. I told him I would make arrangements with my employer to work from home that day so I could be there. On that date, I was home all day, and the day came and went without so much as a phone call, a text or him showing up. Instead, someone, I have no idea who, came a few days later on a non-scheduled day while I was at work and after, you merely sent a text advising that "... the gutter guards are lifting causing the shingles to lift. Ben confirmed the roof is no longer under warranty". You offered to send an estimate to me, and I asked that when you did, you also provide a copy of the warranty. For the next several days I heard nothing. I followed up on June 5th, and a final time on June 8th. Finally, on June 9th, I received a texted $1200 estimate, and I was told that you did not have a copy of the warranty. To summarize, I was given an estimate of $1200 - Just ONE gutter shield on the front of my very small home (less than 33 linear feet). $1200!!! (The back gutter shield did not require anything and was actually replaced by Ben only days after closing.) I asked for a copy of the warranty, but you couldn't/wouldn't provide it, saying that the warranty was only five years, and since my roof was over five years old (by less than 65 days!) you didn't keep it. I have no proof that anyone from Colonial even came to my house, if they did, they stood me up when they were supposed to be there, and showed up on a day they knew I wouldn't be, never provided photos of what was going on, and conveniently said my roof's warranty was only five years. You don't need me to tell you how sketchy that sounds, and just to have another set of eyes on it, I called another contractor who met with me at my home as scheduled, and within minutes after climbing up, determined that NOT A THING was wrong with my gutters, the shields or the roof, with the exception that the gutter shield used by Colonial was was flimsy. However, he said the gutter shield was doing its job. No debris in the gutters, nothing in disrepair, nothing broken - even my downspouts were clear, and since that was the case - no repairs necessary. He even agreed that the roof was done quite well. Out of curiosity, and without telling him I had another estimate from you, I asked what his estimate would be if I wanted to replace the front gutter, and it was less by OVER 41%, and he was honest enough to say that if it's all working properly, he wouldn't feel good taking any money from me. $1200 is a lot to pay to replace something that wasn't broken in the first place, but you were sure going to take it from me. Integrity, pride in your work, and honesty go a long way. I don't know if you were merely relying on Benjamin, and took him at his word, or if you are the one who came out, but there is nothing wrong with my gutters, and I find it pretty skeptical that most roofs from other contractors are covered for a lot longer, but Colonial claims mine expired only 65 days earlier, and JUST after five years. Regardless of whether it expired or not, that doesn't excuse the dishonesty. With all respect, what Colonial did is just wrong, and it says a lot about Colonial's integrity and honesty. Disappointed does not begin to describe how I feel, but I am so thankful to the honest company (who specializes in gutters, and has been in business many years) cares enough about their work to do what yours should have.
