    Gittin' some ICED coffee...
    Wanda H.

I ordered an iced mocha, not too sweet, which turned out good. Maybe gittin' a little jaded with the coffee shops, but felt like it was same-o, same-o. Didnt see, hear, or taste anything to differentiate it from other coffee joints. Good, but not outstanding.

There seem to be as many decorations on the walls and tables as there are students in his cafe. I was happy with my mocha mudslide as well as with the speed with which I got it.

Blueberry strawberry smoothie ($5) and tiki toffee iced coffee ($4)
    Joe K.

Just ordered the whole fruit strawberry blueberry smoothie and the tiki toffee iced coffee. The smoothie has a rich smooth consistency and flavorful. Tiki toffee is also good but lacks distinction in flavor. It's fairly priced. Good place to study with free WiFi. Pretty quiet on a Sunday morning which is great for studying or easing into the day. Relaxed calm atmosphere.

Lived on their drinks/caffeine infusions during medical school. Nice quiet place to study or hang out.

I just ordered an iced expresso with mocha and she added water. If I wanted an iced mocha americano, I would have ordered one. Not cool!

The roast beef savory crepe is also tasty -- though a little light on meat. In terms of the milk tea, it is passable. The tapioca pearls are cooked properly, but the tea itself is nothing special. That said, for the price, it's hard to go wrong. The interior could use some work. It's a bit run down, and the paper towel dispensers in the bathroom don't work great. Meanwhile, the service is solid. They were very patient and friendly with my kids.

Prices aren't that bad either even with it being one of the nicer restaurants around here. The crepes can be meaty or vegetarian among the many options. Basically this place is all staffed by SIU students with it being close to the campus. It's a scenario that seems like a recipe for disaster. That's not the case entirely. Can be a bit of a wait of course. The menu isn't that big, so it helps keep things running smoother. It's about $5 for a crepe. They have savory and sweet. Among the savory ones, we tried the mushroom. These were good and light enough that we didn't get filled up. For dessert you can get sweet ones. These include fruit fillings and whipped cream on top. Good place for tea and crepes. It's located on University Avenue at Mill Street. They frequently close for school events and vacations.

Introduction: Awesome employees! Best Starbucks I have ever…read morebeen to! My boyfriend and I started going here after we moved from Herrin to Carbondale. We found out about the Starbucks rewards program shortly after this Xmas, because my mother had gotten us gift cards for Starbucks. We are hooked! The rewards program is awesome. Here is how it works. Go purchase a Starbucks gift card on your smart phone Starbucks app or in-store. Go online and join. You will receive 1 star every time you make a purchase with your gift card. Reload your card after it runs out. There are 3 levels of rewards, which are listed below. 1. After you earn 1 star, you will receive a free food or drink on your birthday. 2. After you earn 5 stars, you will receive free in-store refills with coffee or tea. (Green Level) 3. After you earn 30 stars, you will receive a free food or drink after every 12 stars earned. (Gold Level) Food & Drinks: I have 3 favorite drinks at Starbucks, which includes the Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher, Hot Chocolate, and Unsweetened Passion Tea. The Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher is only about 120 calories for a Trenta (31oz, larger than a Venti). It is the best cold drink they have. It is difficult to describe the drink, but the VBHR is sort of like a tea and a juice. There are real berries shaken with ice in it. It is about $4.60 for a Trenta. I get the Hot Chocolate when I need my chocolate fix. The first time I tried it, I thought it was too bitter. I think this probably because my taste buds weren't used to quality food at the time. Something told me to give it another shot a week later and I was in love! The Hot Chocolate has milk, cocoa powder, whip cream, and chocolate syrup in it...definitely a must try! It is about $3.63 for a Venti. The Passion Tea is perfect without sweetener. It has fruit in the tea mix. So, it is already sweet. There is a slight cinnamon hint to the taste and smell. The price for a Trenta is about $3.60. Service: EVERY single employee at this Starbucks is absolutely outstanding! The manager is very knowledgeable about everything Starbucks and coffee. You can tell he has a passion for good coffee. The employees always know what I want when I come in. They are always friendly and conversational. The manager is always helpful. I wanted to purchase the Green Rococo Tazo cup, they weren't able to order it, but the manager definitely checked to see if they could. I honestly couldn't ask for better customer service. All of the employees at this Starbucks honestly need a raise, especially the manager! My boyfriend and I come here 3-5 times a week and refuse to go anywhere else because of the employees and the rewards program. Atmosphere: This store is located within a Kroger. So, it isn't a full on stand alone store. When Kroger is busy there can be a lot of noise at times. There is a small seating area with tables and chairs. Free wifi is available. The store is clean. There are coffees, teas, and cups available for purchase. I have purchased several from this store. They always have the best ones available! Pros: There is a seating area with free wifi. The rewards program is honored at this particular store. The employees are fantastic. Cons: This Starbucks store is in Kroger. So, it isn't as quiet as other locations. I wish there was a couch. They just have standard wooden tables and chairs.

I made a request for some of the Blonde Coffee and they went out of their way to brew some up just for me. They easily could have said they were out, but they didn't. Only drawback is that it is inside Kroger, which is why the four stars instead of five (seriously Starbucks, time to get a stand alone location in southern Illinois).

I was interested in trying their baked treats, and upon my visit, I found exactly what I wanted to get. The menu variety was good. They offer cookies, pastries, breakfast meals, lunch meals like sandwiches, etc. The pricing was reasonable. I got a Pink Cookie (Southern IL specialty), a Chocolate Chunk Walnut cookie, a Date Walnut cookie, something called an Orange Chipper (a type of cookie), as well as an Italian sandwich (called Bakery Sub on the menu). The Date Walnut cookie was my top favorite. It was soft and also crunchy where the walnuts were. The Orange Chipper was my next favorite, followed by the Pink Cookie (iced frosting shortbread cookie). The sandwich was loaded and had a good flavor. The deli meats (ham, and salami) were fresh. The service was good. This was a gem of a find for me and I would go back there again when visiting Carbondale. Definitely recommended.
