Never before have I been to a pub with worse service than here. If I could give it no stars, I…read morewould. Ever. Let me walk you through our experience. We were meeting my parents-in-law here for dinner. We arrived first, then they did. We ordered dinner at the same time, but paid separately, so we were on different orders for the kitchen to process. So it'd be fair enough for there to be a five minute wait, even ten possibly. I mean, my wife ordered immediately after her father. So we wait. We notice a cat walking around in the bistro, which in my mind isn't particularly hygenic for a bistro. My wife's parents dinner comes out after a pretty standard wait time (given that there were maybe fifteen people in the entire bistro). They start eating. Forty-five minutes later, still no sign of dinner for myself and my wife. As we were needing to get to our destination before it got too late, we couldn't wait for them to get our order out to us, and requested our money back. Owner comes out and becomes quite intimidating. Getting into our faces about us requesting our money back. When I say 'into our faces', I mean a fairly tall man leaning in to near nose-to-nose. Disgraceful. Luckily for us, a crowd was building up behind us, and it was easier for him to just give us the money back so we could get on with out trip. I love country pubs. I really do. But this man's disgraceful conduct means that not only will I or my family not return, but I am more than happy to tell everyone about my experience here.

This is one of those pubs that you might miss by accident, though the fact that it is located in…read morecountry back streets probably is the reason for that. However, the town, and in turn the pub, basically try's play up its heritage value, and you certainly notice that with the pub. The service was pretty good actually, and the atmosphere rather nice and relaxing. There was also a pretty large beer garden out the back as well, though not doubt that is more for dining, if the huge no-smoking sign is anything to go by. I guess the one gripe that I did have was the lack of beers on tap, or at least beer options, but that is something that I have sort of come to expect from country pubs.

Chicken covered in hollandaise sauce with a side of bacon, and some avocado tossed in with the green salad - definitely a win. I liked it for being a bit different and also a lighter option to regular pub food. The servings are generous, I couldn't finish all of my dish! But of course, that didn't deter me from trying some of their chips ... which are to die for! The menu isn't huge, but has a couple of good steaks as well as chicken, squid and prawn dishes -those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head! You pay standard pub prices for the meals - I remember one of the steaks costing around $30. The wine list also is on the smaller side, but then again, this is a small pub. They offer local wines such as Di Giorgio and other SA choices, e.g. Bird in Hand, which I find quite appealing. The prices are reasonable too, nothing to complain about! It's worth noting that this is a family-friendly hotel. It is both pokie and smoke free, and there is spacious lawn behind the patio for kids to run wild. If you're in the area, or travelling through, I suggest a visit. Classic small, country pub. Decent prices and a good feed.
