Driving through Southeast, Missouri, I needed some coffee and a "little something", so I made a…read morestop at Villainous Grounds. Their coffee of the week was White Chocolate Irish Cream, and I could not resist that! It came out hot, but not so hot that I could not drink it, and it was just the right sweetness. Their "little somethings" were a variety of muffins, scones, and cinnamon rolls. Maybe something else, but I stopped his recitation over the phone after he said "cinnamon rolls". Another winner, but next time I will take up their offer of heating it up. At the time I wasn't sure I was going to eat it right away, but I do love some drippy icing! They are still take-out only, and you can either call in your order, which I did, or you can appear outside their door and they will come out to take your order. I was very happy that the young lady who came out with my goodies was wearing a mask! Service was quick, and what I had was good, so give them a try if you're in the area!

The flavor, which started somewhat weak, got better with time -- perhaps due to the frozen coffee ice cubes. Anyway, this is a solid independent shop. I do recommend.

I asked why it was so much when I was told it was going to be significantly cheaper prior, I was asked if I was a preferred member, I asked how I would know and was told " you would know if you were". Apparently the $90 price was only if you prepaid for the items this was never said over the phone, I skipped cheaper product at other stores because of this. The deal was not offered and was pretty much told oh well should have prepaid. Thanks Castle, I want to like the place as it's the closest with a big selection but it's not worth giving my money to a place that won't honor a deal they had in place.

It has a model and mini painting room, and it's used for gaming Thursdays and Thursdays. Warhammer, etc. is there on Thursdays. Regular board gaming is there on both nights, but the bulk of the room is reserved for tabletop RPG. There's an additional gaming room in the front. The people that come there to play are are great, the shop is extremely well-run, the staff is great. They do special orders and card trading. They carry some gently used items. And there's a purchase stamp program. Anyways, my brother used to take me, his baby sis, with him to the comic book shop every Tuesday when I was little, and read them to me, so I like checking out any shop I run into in my travels and moves to other states for a touch of home. Castle Perilous is among the most welcoming, and is among the best stocked in each category while still having a lot of variety. Smart use of the square footage. It's impressive.

There are some cool items here but pricing and customer service could use a bit of improvement…read more It's a huge space and there's a wide variety of collectibles: comics, movies (DVDs, Blurays), records, clothing, prints, toys/figures, posters, statues, cards, and all sorts of other random ephemera. We had dinner nearby and were checking out the other shops on the street, stopped in to peruse. I made my way through the first half of the building and spotted stacks of comics on a table against a wall. Close to the top were several issues of a run I'd been looking to complete (old "Namor" comics from the 1990s). I was told (as I placed them in a pile to purchase) that those books weren't yet for sell, that they had to be priced. The comics for sell were all on the other side of the store. Completely understand that there might be a process for pricing books, and maybe that falls on a specific employee(s) who wasn't present that day. But this seems like the type of business where if you want to make a sale, you could maybe set a price? We're talking about books worth about $2-$3. However, looking through the comics that were for sell on the other side, maybe I'd have been out of luck anyway as everything seemed priced about 25% higher than it should have been. Comics that are easily $2-$5 (including at stores within a 30 minute drive of this location) were valued at $6-$10. Every single issue I found of interest to me was easily $3 more than I've ever seen it elsewhere. This pricing structure extended to all items in the store, with DVDs for $6 that were easily $1 discs, figures for $20-25 that elsewhere fetch $10-15... The proprietor was in talks with another customer for the 30 minutes we were there, and I didn't see room to make/find a deal so we left without purchase. Still, giving 3 stars ("good", "fine") as there's plenty to look at and many might find a deal on their specific items.
