Among my staple orders from Hap Chan are the dim sum, yang chow fried rice, and fish fillet in garlic. In all these years, the quality has stayed the same and the prices have been at par. Hap Chan in Silver City took the place of Cafe Mondial, a bar I would frequent in my early 20s. I have a lot of memories and non-memories (aka I was drunk and technically don't remember what happened but I was there) from the place, and now it's Hap Chan. That's always a bittersweet thing. I don't blame Hap Chan, though, and am happy I get to have a decent meal at this place with some history of my wasted youth. My kids have sensory issues when it comes to food and this simple request has always been easily fulfilled. I never expected this restaurant to turn us down. Second, I ordered a vegetarian dish that never came. I think the server got too flustered that I insisted on having plain noodles for my kids that she refused to grant my own order of food. It's disappointing. I come to the Philippines every few years and like a good time with my parents. But this was terrible. Then the server lied when my dad asked why my order never came. She said I never ordered it. After taking my order, she actually followed up a little later to tell me that my vegetarian dish was still coming. At that point every other order was done. Then it still never came. My dad rightfully gave her a piece of his mind and said it was unacceptable. But she still lied and told him I never ordered. Again it's unfortunate. They should train their servers better and let them know how to give good service with a good attitude. Today, Classic Savory has branches all over Metro Manila and in the Philippines. Luckily for me, this is the branch nearest my home and work! We would almost always order their Fried Chicken with Special Gravy, Chopsuey, Long Life Pancit, Salt and Pepper Squid, and, of course, Yang Chow Rice. But, that is when we are a big group. When I am alone and need a quick lunch, they have move options now at Classic Savory. Aside from their Combo Meals (my fave is the Combo 2 - Quarter Chicken, Salt and Pepper Squid, Rice, Fried Banana and a Drink), they now have Classic Incredi-bowls and, my new go-to meal, Affordable E-Meals! I always order E-Meal 1. I order this all the time that the servers know my order already even before I take my usual seat. E-Meal 1 is a meal plate with 1 piece Classic Chicken, Pancit Canton, Corn Soup, Steamed Rice, Fried Banana, Kropeck, and a soda! This combo hits the spot every time! They have huge servings for the set meals - we got the hainanese chicken, salted egg chicken and the general tso's chicken. The meals come with unlimited soup and rice. We also got siomai for appetizer and my folks loved it. The only downside I can think of is that for non-pork eaters, there is very limited dimsum choices - only the chicken leg. All the rest of the dimsums have pork like the hakaw and the vegetable dumpling. Their soup also uses pork stock. So I didn't get to have the soup that came with my meal. Service is good, and the staff were very attentive.
