Ember, the friendly and accommodating front desk agent, checked us in. He is the sole reason this hotel is receiving a 3-star rating. Upon check-in, he greeted me warmly. However, upon reaching our room, we discovered it was a king bed instead of the two double beds we had booked. We had paid for two double beds, and the switch was jarring. I went downstairs to complain to Ember, who immediately apologized. He explained that they were overbooked and had no double beds left, so they had given us a king bed. He offered to bring us a rollaway bed, which he did. Despite the inconvenience, Ember's remorse and willingness to make amends made us not demand a refund for the extra cost. As we headed downstairs for dinner, we overheard another family in the foyer complaining about the same issue. Ember was apologizing and offering them a rollaway bed as well. This is the first hotel I have ever been to that switched up a room without notification. That is so wrong!

Nothing terrible, nothing great, just your standard hotel spread that gets the job done if you're not expecting much. Overall though, the experience was enjoyable. Comfortable stay, great people and a convenient spot if you're passing through or spending a little time in town.

Our bartender was fantastic--friendly, attentive, incredibly welcoming, and even helped us get connected to Wi-Fi while we were there. Just genuinely excellent hospitality from beginning to end. The food was great too. I ordered the Hawaiian pulled pork sandwich, which had pulled pork, spicy pineapple coleslaw, chipotle aioli, and goat cheese. The goat cheese especially made the sandwich for me, and I would have happily taken even more of the slaw and sauce. My husband had the smashburger and said it was absolutely worth the $18 price tag. And the fries! Perfectly crispy, and the balsamic ketchup was ridiculously addictive. We finished with the cinnamon-sugar fried ice cream cannolis, and they disappeared in about five minutes. Crunchy cinnamon-sugar shell, cold ice cream, chocolate, whipped cream, and strawberries--and even the strawberries were delicious, not just decoration. We decided to eat downstairs in the bar area. It had ha nice cozy low key atmosphere. Which was nice. We also felt like we were well taken care of there. Great food, wonderful service, and the kind of hospitality that makes you genuinely want to come back. Definitely recommend stopping by.

Below the Union Hotel is a tavern called Mona's which is connected and an addition to The Union Hotel restaurant/12 room hotel. There's parking along the Main Street, as well as lots of spots in the back of the building. You can enter from the main entrance of the hotel and take the elevator down or you can head down the steps in the back to enter. Doesn't matter which way, just get here. We were absolutely blown away by the quality, portions, flavor profiles, and service in this little gem. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by a super friendly bartender named Matt. He was very attentive, friendly and welcoming. He was always checking up on us and making sure that we were always good. Service was fabulous. There's a timeline of the history of this historic building on the back of the menu. We ordered two drinks. One was an apple cider margarita and the other was a strawberry gin fizz concoction that was amazing. Both of these drinks were delicious. If we weren't driving and staying in the actual hotel above this tavern, we would have tried several other ones on the menu. Lots of creative choices that looked to be tasty based on the mix of ingredients. For the food - the menu was enticing and extensive. Lots of creative things happening here. The app we decided on was the Parmesan crusted Brussels and boy did they not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We opted for The French Dip with fries and some magical au jus and a Union Smash burger with fries for our meals. Both are highly recommended!!! The burger was served on this delicious cloud of brioche bun and stacked high with two patties (perfectly cooked), pickles, dijonaose, and cheese. The French Dip had the most magnificent crusty roll and tender meat. Then there are these amazing Parmesan parsley fries that are perfectly cooked and served hot! We could have eaten an entire plate of these. To go boxes were needed. Big portions. We couldn't fit dessert! The bill does come with some tasty Andes mints. Prices here are extremely reasonable! I can't stress enough about how absurd it is that this small town has such a hidden treasure of a place where the food is beyond amazing. This place is a full package. If you live anywhere within an hour or even two, come here!! You won't regret this decision. Scrumptious!!!!

The amount of money being made at this facility, with so few improvements to the grounds and…read moreamenities, is absolutely pathetic! Half of the dock slips sink into the water when you walk on them. Some have no cleats, and others have wood that is completely rotted. The gas and rental shack is practically sitting in the water, especially along the back portion of the building. These facilities are in desperate need of repairs and upgrades. The only thing that is reasonably priced is Best Way Pizza, and the staff there are superb! Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the restaurant. We ate there twice and have no reason to return. The interior looks the same as it did 20-plus years ago and smells just as old. On top of that, the prices are far too high for what you get. I can't comment on the Proud Mary cruise because, in the 30-plus years my family has been visiting Raystown, we have never taken a cruise. Hopefully, that experience is better than many of the other amenities the facility offers. The grounds themselves need significant attention. Trees need to be trimmed back so they aren't scratching campers as they drive through to their campsites. Parking is atrocious, and the check-in area is far too small to accommodate today's larger campers. We were actually yelled at for parking in the grass while loading our boat, even though staff could clearly see what we were doing and that we would have moved as soon as we finished. Meanwhile, cars have been parked in the grass throughout the season. Where were the security guards then? The inconsistent enforcement of the rules is frustrating. Considering the amount of money being charged, the facilities should be in much better condition. The cost of staying here should come with well-maintained grounds, safe docks, and amenities that justify the prices visitors are expected to pay. My aunt stayed at the Lodge this summer and booked a lake-view room. What a joke! Maybe if the trees were trimmed back, guests might actually be able to see the lake. Another major disappointment is the cost for boat slip holders. People are paying $3,000-$6,000 per season to keep their boats in a slip. On top of that, they are charged a utility premium of $400-$700 per season and still aren't provided with internet access. For those kinds of prices, you would expect better amenities and more value for your money. How can these fees be justified when basic services like internet access aren't included? After more than 30 years of visiting Raystown, it's disappointing to see so little improvement in so many areas. In comparison, 7 Points is much nicer and far more affordable, although they are strict about their rules. Visitors and seasonal slip holders pay good money to enjoy these facilities, and they deserve safe docks, well-maintained grounds, adequate parking, and amenities that justify the cost. It's time for some serious investment in maintenance, upgrades, and customer experience. The prices continue to add up, but the improvements simply aren't there. Raystown has so much potential, and it's frustrating to see it fall short in so many areas.

Plenty of parking and easy to find. Close to the train - it came by a couple times (while we were awake) didn't notice when sleeping. They do provide ear plugs if you are super sensitive - they were right by the bedside we didn't use them. Beds were good - not great. Pillows a little thin, again - good not great. They are pet friendly and they are Non-Smoking. Both of which we appreciated. I did not bring my pup - but it appears it was $10 extra a night. They offer breakfast but only on the weekend (stay away from TOPS DINER). My only real complaint - the room smelled a little musty. Not terrible just noticeable enough when we first walked in. Turned on the room ac/heat unit and got the air moving and it wasn't too bad. This appears to be a Mom-n-Pop place. If you needed ice - walk to the lobby and get baggies of ice from the front desk clerk. For the price this place was perfect. It was super clean and spacious and served our needs for one night. It also had small refrigerator (though it wasn't plugged in so we couldn't have used it right away) and a microwave. Also in the room: large screen tv, alarm clock, padded hangers and luggage rack. I would use again if in the area.

When I spoke to the front desk, the gal interrupted me defensively to explain why there was noise. I had to run the air conditioning to mask the noise from the patio and also the road behind the hotel; the result was that I had to listen to the droning air conditioning and that my room was freezing. I also experienced issues with printing a tax exempt form and the staff finding it. The printer I used printed only a portion of the form so the staff suggested I email it to him. He said he received it and signed it and took the taxes and fees off the bill. The day of my departure, the occupancy tax was present on my bill. I visited the front desk and another staff said he found my form and it would be taken care of. An hour or so later, the bill hadn't been corrected so I called and spoke with another clerk (day shift) who stated she would look for the tax exemption form and take care of the bill. It was closer to my departure time and still no correction so I called down again and she admitted she couldn't find the form and wasn't sure if it was lost and the email deleted so I sent it again before the situation was handled. I complained to an area manager who emailed back apologizing and saying my feedback was valuable and would be used for training purposes, etc ... The response wasn't helpful considering how little sleep I got and how dissatisfied I was with my stay. Sometimes things happen but it's how they're handled that makes a difference. At check-in, if my room preference couldn't be granted, this should have been clearly stated. When a complaint was made about the noise from the patio, the desk clerk shouldn't be defensive and interrupt, rather she should have listened and, if possible, offer a solution. I have no idea what the problem was with the tax exemption form but two people said they had the form and it would be handled but then it wasn't. The third person, the morning of checkout, did everything possible to help and was friendly about it so thank you. In the end, Sue, the morning of departure, was friendly and helpful; the unseen housekeeping staff was great as my room was very clean. The door, however, was broken as turning the knob down wouldn't open it -- only pulling it up worked. The shower was great. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding too thin. Breakfast was definitely better than at other nearby hotels -- more choices, the items seemed of better quality, and were more attractively presented. I'm disappointed with my experience and recall having similarly disappointing experiences at this property years ago which is why it's been so long since I returned.

They have an estimated value around $7,000 making this a third-degree felony in PA. I left them on the bathroom counter in room 313 and stepped out around 5 PM. When I returned at 10 PM, my rings were gone. A staff member at the desk floated the idea that housekeeping might have "accidentally" swept the rings up while changing towels. However, the housekeeping staff is out the door by 4pm. There is no legitimate reason anyone should have been in that room. And with a skeleton crew, there were only a few people who had access and opportunity during that time. The night manager acted suspiciously and uncomfortably as if she and I were very close familiars, minutes before I noticed my rings gone. Oddly she wore two hands' worth of mismatched rings showing no cohesive aesthetic at all. Isn't that odd? The manager Sachin Patel told me to my face this has never happened before. Blatant lies.
