My wife and I stayed at Comfort Suites near Altoona for two nights and we were impressed by the hotel. We were there to visit family. The large elevator to fit our large packing & my wheelchair was convenient. The room was spacious, clean, & comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. The hotel is located off I99 in a quiet area. We woke up to the surrounding rolling hills from our window, a serene & relaxing sight that added to our experience. The free breakfast was just right for us. The staff was very friendly, helpful, & accommodating, especially the housekeepers who made sure we had everything we needed. As a person who uses a mechanical wheelchair, I appreciated the accessibility of the room and the hotel facilities. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing, spacious hotel off I99 near Altoona. For wheelchair accessibility, it is underrated & deserves more recognition.

    Standard suite is pretty nice.

In the middle of a scene straight out of Deliverance stands a beautiful Comfort Suites. I was sent here on a business trip. We have some pretty standard needs when it comes to hotels for work: free wi-fi, mini fridge and microwave in the room, and a continental breakfast. This location went above and beyond!! Each room had it's own keurig with six k cups, a mini fridge, and a microwave. The rooms were divided. They had a wall separating a sitting area from the bed. To me, this seemed idyllic for the travelling business person like myself. You aren't forced to sit in bed on your laptop or at a table across from the bed. I could easily separate my work life from my relaxation and sleep. Thanks for a lovely stay, Comfort Suites! If I have to be back in the area, you will be my first pick!

Notice the free coffee and cookies on the coffee table. You won't get that at a Marriott, for sure. Unless you pay $10...

I am so impressed with this place. Choice Hotels beat the hilton-marriott-hyatt trio in every possible way. Free WiFi, free coffee (24 hours), free cookies, free breakfast. You can't get any of those at the trio. Believe me, I've tried. They won't even brew coffee for their guests (I think once I got water with lemon at a marriott though... That's how much marriott regards its guests..). Comfort Suites not only *doesn't* nickel and dime its guests (like the trio), the nickels and dimes are freely available!

When I spoke to the front desk, the gal interrupted me defensively to explain why there was noise. I had to run the air conditioning to mask the noise from the patio and also the road behind the hotel; the result was that I had to listen to the droning air conditioning and that my room was freezing. I also experienced issues with printing a tax exempt form and the staff finding it. The printer I used printed only a portion of the form so the staff suggested I email it to him. He said he received it and signed it and took the taxes and fees off the bill. The day of my departure, the occupancy tax was present on my bill. I visited the front desk and another staff said he found my form and it would be taken care of. An hour or so later, the bill hadn't been corrected so I called and spoke with another clerk (day shift) who stated she would look for the tax exemption form and take care of the bill. It was closer to my departure time and still no correction so I called down again and she admitted she couldn't find the form and wasn't sure if it was lost and the email deleted so I sent it again before the situation was handled. I complained to an area manager who emailed back apologizing and saying my feedback was valuable and would be used for training purposes, etc ... The response wasn't helpful considering how little sleep I got and how dissatisfied I was with my stay. Sometimes things happen but it's how they're handled that makes a difference. At check-in, if my room preference couldn't be granted, this should have been clearly stated. When a complaint was made about the noise from the patio, the desk clerk shouldn't be defensive and interrupt, rather she should have listened and, if possible, offer a solution. I have no idea what the problem was with the tax exemption form but two people said they had the form and it would be handled but then it wasn't. The third person, the morning of checkout, did everything possible to help and was friendly about it so thank you. In the end, Sue, the morning of departure, was friendly and helpful; the unseen housekeeping staff was great as my room was very clean. The door, however, was broken as turning the knob down wouldn't open it -- only pulling it up worked. The shower was great. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding too thin. Breakfast was definitely better than at other nearby hotels -- more choices, the items seemed of better quality, and were more attractively presented. I'm disappointed with my experience and recall having similarly disappointing experiences at this property years ago which is why it's been so long since I returned.

It's also sold-out many times during the week which means we book as early as possible when we know we're headed to Altoona. Checking in is usually easy and fast, the rooms are clean, breakfast is fine, and the staff is familiar with tax exemptions and accurately removes the appropriate charges. This last time, my sink was clogged and the cheerful, helpful maintenance man came up to my room immediately upon his arrival and cleared it out and also washed the sink out afterward. The front desk staff was friendly, the housekeeping staff was effective, and my stay was a pleasant one. I also like the TV stations at Holiday Inn more than other hotels. I don't watch TV at home so having TCM is nice when I'm away working. Thanks for providing a nice home away from home.

For the positives the staff here have always been good and the lobby area is nice. Parking is adequate unless the convention center event is large, but even then, you can park up in the main lot. The issues here have begun to add up due to the hotels age and it is in need of a renovation. Pool has never reopened post-COVID from what I've seen. The rooms have probably not been renovated in a decade based on the paint and carpet colors, with the furniture showing wear. Our room door at times didn't fully close and the wallpaper was starting to peel. The TV was small and the interface they use didn't fully work right. The beds were reasonably comfortable, but the nightstands electric sockets were loose. Sink is located outside of the bathroom, with the main part of the bathroom being the most worn. Our toilet a few times would not stop running after a flush. Rust was clearly visible below the tubs soap dish, and the tubs anti-slip coating was failing. The paint on the ceiling was also giving up. Our room did have a nice patio. Overall, for an attached convention center hotel, these rooms should be much nicer. Most of this hotel's problems would be fixed by a major renovation which is needed soon. I would only stay here if the price was right for now.

However, the rooms have not been renovated. Our room had broken grout (and a clumsy silicone grout job) in the bathroom. The bathtub was rusty. Despite the listing of amenities that I looked at on the Marriott website before arriving, there was no microwave oven in our queen room; only king rooms get them now. Some other systems appear to have been "renovated": the telephone started flashing an alert in the middle of the night. Worst was the HVAC system; it was noisy (as is not unusual in chain hotel rooms), but the problem was that it was simply uncontrollable. Five visits to the front desk and two visits to our room by their maintenance guy did not fix the problem. They kindly offered to move us to another room, but it was our last night, and we had no reason to believe that another room wouldn't have the same problems, as they all have the pretty much same wireless HVAC controllers. The current staff are super nice folks, and tried their best to help us, but seem not properly supported by the Marriott corporation.
