There is a therapy pool that contains an operating underwater treadmill that can be raised or lowered, allowing a person to move a sore or injured limb without the usual amount of pain. It is usually around 94 degrees, a perfect temperature to work out in and not be too cold either. There are jets that provide massage therapy as well. The treadmill has different speeds also, allowing the therapists to accommodate to any specific need of a patient, which enhances their healing time. The fitness center features air compressors that can add or subtract weight to the machines, eliminating the strenuous task of getting up from the machine and moving a pin and weights manually. AquaWorx Exercise Specialists provide an initial assessment of what you would like to accomplish and how well you will be able to accomplish it. In addition, setting up workout plans and giving you the means to follow through with those plans. There are many volunteers, interns, and employees who walk around assisting each person individually. Providing reinforcement and re-evaluation. There are also groups and classes you can attend weekly, some of which include balance and yoga. And again, the physical therapists are great at what they do. They always give their client enough of their time to fully understand the problem and figure out a solution. I would never move someone I love to Sunshine Terrace knowing what I now know. They have repeatedly…read morefailed to protect and take care of my Mom, on everything from the most basic to the most serious issues. And this is with us actively looking over their shoulder. I can't imagine what would happen if we weren't. Let's start with the most serious. UTIs can be deadly in older people if you don't treat it right away. My Mom's first UTI, they said they couldn't treat for like 2-3 days because it was a holiday weekend and her meds were somehow sent to a different pharmacy. Didn't offer to call the on-call doctor to reroute them, nothing. She would have gone without these critical meds if we hadn't found a local relative to pick them up. The second UTI they didn't even clock; we had to alert them she was disoriented, and by then she was actively hallucinating people flying around her room. Then when the culture finally came back, they waited *four days* to put her on the most effective meds. She had a sore on her foot that was left to fester so long that by the time they noticed / treated it, it was nearly down to the bone. We moved her there because she requires a two-person assist to stand up; to use fewer people is dangerous, she could easily fall. But she just told us they're now sometimes only having one person help her stand. Which can't even be legal? Because she can only get up with a lot of help, she can't get to the bathroom herself. And they weren't regularly helping her brush her teeth from her chair until we asked them to. The ambiance is so bleak. There's been a huge mystery stain in the middle of my Mom's carpet since the day she moved in. The one socializing room in her wing could star in a horror film; it's dimly lit with a mishmash of furniture, just so bleak. The food is... so bad. And for all of this, we have the pleasure of paying $9000+ / month. In my Mom's short time there, we have watched out her physical and mental health decline. It's heartbreaking. Needless to say, we are moving her out. I will say, some of the staff members have been kind to her, so this isn't on them. I'm so grateful for those rays of sunshine in an otherwise bleak experience. Maybe they're understaffed and under-financed? I don't know. I only know we pay thousands less for the place where my Dad lives - and it's many, many times better, actually feels like a home; good food, lots of activities, cheerful staff, attentive care. So I know it's possible to create a warm and healthful environment for the elderly. Sunshine Terrace just isn't that. P.S. If you're looking for long-term skilled nursing, please note that three of their five-star reviews appear to be for short-term rehab and PT. If you want a sense for the quality of their long-term care, don't take my word for it; look them up in ProPublica's nursing home guide.

I always called ahead of time to let her know. They discharged me because of these missed appointments. When I called the director to discuss this, she yelled at me. All I got to say was my name and she went off like a rocket. My nurse never said I could reschedule or have another nurse come out. I liked all my nurses. Although my first nurse was uneducated about sterile technique, I found them easy to work with. The director is just plain rude and mean. They are dealing with very ill people. Surely there are better ways of communicating with their patients. I do not recommend Symbii Home Health.
