I had 4 high end dresses that I took to get professionally cleaned. They were all brand new, never worn in perfect condition.
We called to check and see if they were ready to pick up and told 2 got damaged. I went there and then the insanity began. I was told they did everything right, but because there were "manufacturer defects in the material" damage occurred and this was NOT their fault.
One dress had an iron on floral. I was told that these only will take about 140degrees before they are damaged or come off and their process gets hotter than that. So, I then asked if they know this why would they go ahead with the process? They shuffled around a bit and then said....Well, we didn't know it was an iron on (they thought it was an embroidery). WOW. Simply looking at the inside of the dress would have told them what this was. Just an excuse.
The second dress has colors bleed. Again, not their fault but the manufacturers. I was told with these type dresses there is about a 33% chance of them being damaged. Again, WOW. I replied they should inform customers of this. Personally, this sounds crazy to me...33%...really? And yes, they actually said a 33% chance.
I simply told them that the dresses were their responsibility. I brought them in new and undamaged. They got damaged under their care, end of story. They called the owner and said she would phone me, i left the dresses there. A week later...Nothing.
I went to pick up the ruined dresses and they couldn't even find them. They were in the front of the store on the front rack. I saw them and pointed to them. I was told, No...that isn't them. I said yes it MOST CERTAINLY IS. After some arguing they finally relented and looked and Sure enough that was them. My point is they are so clueless they do not even know where things are. They didn't want to give me the dresses. Their response, let me call the owner. There were lots of customers around. I said NO. I have waited and waited on the owner to phone. They obviously do not care. Just give me the dresses. Some more arguing from them. Again I said just give me my property! Angrily they gave them and said, fine..fine...take them. They were obviously flustered about this as several other customers were present.
Bottom line: they take your goods, damage them but are not responsible. Sounds fair? By the way I audio recorded this insanity on my phone (which is completely legal), as I know they will likely deny this all was said or happened. read more
