Professional comedies. It is one of those shows that keep you immersed from the beginning to the end. We had a blast.

I REPEAT, THIS COMEDY CLUB IS IN THE MALL! walk into the mall and its up stairs.

My family and I spontaneously came here for Moody McCarthey on a Friday night. As it so happens,…read moreMoody is from NYC, so we really loved his humor and jokes. I honestly couldn't tell if his overly-American jokes were funny to the locals. Do your research, I suppose. Comedy Nest is deep inside a large, old hockey arena, so make sure to give yourself enough time to get there and get your seats. Also, the bathrooms are nowhere near the comedy club itself, so be prepared to exit the comedy club if you need to use the bathroom. It is an adventure. It took through the 3 openers for someone to ask if we wanted something to drink. Small but fair beer options priced how you'd expect at a club (though perhaps not as atrocious as an American comedy club price). Fun venue and a good time. We got a very fair price for the level of humor and amount of laughs we got that night.

Very disappointing in their lack of care for attendees with accessibility concerns…read more We bought tickets for our first show at the Wiggle room and arrived before the doors opened because my wife had busted her ankle the day before and was on crutches for the first time in her life. I dropper her off at the door because she couldn't go far on the crutches. This was super stressful because there was nowhere to safely pull over and she had to get out on the street side and try to navigate the traffic on her crutches. After I helped her get to the door, I left her there while I went to park the van we were driving. It's an unusually large accessibility van. So I quickly discovered I was too tall for any parking garage and too big for any street parking. There was apparently also a large event going on and it was crazy trying to find parking. I spent over an hour trying to find a place to park and couldn't find a place anywhere. During this time my wife kept calling and was in tears because of the steep stairs in the building. She said people offered to carry her up the stairs but it scared her too much. She tried calling the listed phone number to get some advice but no one answered the phone or returned her voicemail. After more than an hour of trying to find a way to make it work we gave up because it was so stressful on both of us. We called and emailed and asked for a refund given the circumstances but they never bothered to even respond in any way. I understand their are limitations to what they can do for customers with accessibility needs, but at least showing that you have some empathy would leave customers not feeling totally ignored.

You might not get to see big famous companies here, but rather newcomers and those who enjoy the freedom of the fringe. I enjoy going to the Sunday Night Improv (every Sunday night 8 pm) - a competition in improv with many regulars and a few new faces every time, guaranteed to make you laugh! The crowd in the audience gets quite involved, too. And for those who want to be on stage themselves, there is a workshop every Sunday prior to the show. Everybody can attend for free, and then perform in the evening! The theatre is also one of the regular venues for the Zoofest, the more independent branch of the Montreal comedy festival.

I've had the pleasure of performing here at their annual Sketch Festival. Alain and Mark run the place, and they treat their performers like performers are supposed to be treated. Which is, incidentally, very good. By consequence of performing here, I've also been able to catch a few of the shows they put on, including original bilingual productions, and weekly improv nights. It's all about the art here. It's about people who love what they are doing, and love pushing it to new levels. The venue itself is an intimate space, with a bar up front and two-ish levels of seating. It's across from a strip club where you might be able to catch the silhouettes of lovely-ish ladies dancing in the windows during the early hours of the night! If you live in the area, check out what they have going on, and go to it. I'm so upset I missed the a Capella / barbershop group that was performing last time I was in town.

As I had just landed in the city only a few hours prior, I was very pleased with this warm welcome. When the performers entered the big top, the energy in the room soared immediately. They were all funny, engaging, and extremely talented. The content of the show itself was a mixture of overdone social commentary on superficiality and a really good story about a showman trying to reconnect with his roots. The performances were all fairly remarkable but I really enjoyed the BMX show at the end. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! If you get a chance, go see Volta! The big top is not very big at all so I doubt there would be a bad seat in the house.

Oh wow. What a night. This review is for VOLTA now running in Toronto at the portlands…read more I had long heard about how amazing cirque was but having never been I was unsure of what to actually expect. My past associations with anything circus related typically involved clowns, animals doing tricks, flat soda, and stale popcorn. And rather than being under a big top tent now regularly, take place in a hockey arena. If you recall these types of experiences and were kinda "meh" about them, bring those expectations with you to a cirque show (like I did) because what you'll experience will BLOW YOUR FRICKEN MIND. Cirque is a sophisticated artistic performance circus for adults (and families but the appeal is definitely there for adults where a traditional circus may not be). The set up as you enter the grounds is reminiscent of a night club vibe with strong colours and lighting accenting the pure white tents of the big top. Every detail is meticulously planned to ensure a total customer experience. From the thoughtfulness of concessions, VIP lounges and even futuristic portapotty style bathrooms - which are really anything but that. Feats of athleticism, strength, poise, grace and skill are just some of skills you'll observe while taking in VOLTA from activities as "simple" as jumping rope to a full on high flying aerial BMX assault. What I really enjoyed was that the performances had elements of common circus performance like trapeze and acrobatics but instead of being 100 feet over the ground theyre reconfigured and performed on a different plane to change the experience. I enjoyed that VOLTA also had an underlying storyline with a lesson which they used to help showcase the various performances. And what circus performance would be complete without some comedic clowning around. Note I didn't say clowns.. for those with that fear. Just simple old school slapstick comedy which appealed to the kids in the audience and the kid in me, without the terrifying make up and oversized shoes. As a first cirque experience it was exceptional and it's a perfect spot for a date night (they serve alcohol in the lobby which they do not accept tips for!) And looking ahead, Cirque Du Soleil will be an annual event that we will be attending.
