The day I stopped in, the one person that speaks 'some' English had to go somewhere because of a family emergency and my Spanish is almost non-existent, so that made things a bit more difficult in terms of ordering. But, we all persevered and I got two small barbacoa burritos with very hot verde sauce and a coke and so happiness ensued shortly thereafter. The burritos were not great, but they were good, they were filling, and they were quite inexpensive. I believe those burritos were $5.50 each. I'd definitely stop in here again. Without any hesitation.

Just be warned... some of those salsas are seriously spicy, so ask which one is the "killer" that day before you go all in. I usually order the carne asada or lengua tacos, but we've also tried the sopes and quesadillas, and everything has been delicious. The service is always great, too. The young man working there is friendly and gets orders out quickly. And don't skip the cucumber lime drink--it's so refreshing and the perfect pairing with the food! They have picnic tables outside as well as a covered indoor seating area with a garage-style door that's usually open, there's probably 6 tables overall..making it a great spot for a quick lunch or dinner. If you've been thinking about trying this place, do it. The food is consistently amazing, the portions are worth every penny, and you definitely won't leave hungry. I almost wanted to keep this place a secret... but you're welcome!

While La Carreta de Mi Tierra (#1) has been quietly blowing up the taco street scene in Salem, just…read moreacross the street lies Los Pinos, an older, more traditional taco truck where tastiness and authenticity go hand in hand. Some would say this is the best street taco experience in the city, which is hard to argue, especially when the tacos are this good. Their tacos are around $1.50-$2.00 each, which beat the competition in terms of pricing but I trust this price will catapult in a very short time. Their version of carnitas are stewed and fried to perfection and their lengua / al pastor is fantastic. When available, their fish tacos are worth every dime, though they are a $1 more. It's not all tacos, they also serve a decent variety of burritos, quesadillas, and tortas. They're very good about stuffing every morsel of food into the tortilla / bread, which is abundant in its own right. Do not forget to use as much of their condiments to really enhance the flavor. Thankfully, it's never too busy here and the staff is super friendly. The last time I checked they were still cash only and parking is extremely limited. They've done well to attract a lot of local clientele, many of whom visit the truck during the late hours into the evening. There is some seating with these makeshift tables, but I prefer to take my food to go. When it comes to Los Pinos and their wonderful variety of street inspired food, everyone wins. _________________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-carreta-de-mi-tierra-salem

The guy who took our order and put everything together was really nice and patiently listened to how we wanted the tacos and burritos - no beans, etc. First bite was close your eyes good. There is some kind of salsa poured over the tacos that made their deliciousness more delicious. Lots of cilantro and onion and almost like a gravy. Then there was the burrito. Oh man it was so good! We tore it apart in greed and burrito lust and panted in shame afterwards. But not so much shame that we didn't plot to return next week.

Overall, I think this truck has a lot to offer, and tacos are just the best way to start. (#1) I'm pretty impressed with their truck setup. The neon light signs, along with the cater style format that their food is setup in makes it an easy grab-n-go situation. There are outside tables and a dedicated condiment station that has a number of salsas, limes, radishes, and other quality taco add-ons. Last time I checked, tacos were just about $2-3, but in the inflation world we live in I wouldn't be surprised if the prices have somehow changed since then. In addition to tacos, they have burritos (super sized too), tortas, sopes, quesadillas, and tostadas. Out of all the meats they have (asada, pastor, carnitas, tripas, pollo, and cabeza (#2), I think their carnitas / lengua have the most promise. That being said, I do enjoy almost all of their meats. Tripa might not win me over, but most everything else I give a pretty solid thumbs up. The asada has this juiciness to the meat, the carnitas has this hint of saltiness, and the lengua when combined with the right salsa (verde) is magic. If anyone is going with the torta route, the jamón milanesa is a nice way to go. It's all cash only here and the service is always good. During the colder months they bust out the heaters, which is always appreciated. There is likely to be a line here during any evening, but a little patience and an appetite go a long way. ___________ (#1) Gateway food. (#2) Spelled "cabesa" on their menu.
