No business embodies the vibrant Mexican community of Woodburn more so than Luis's Taqueria…read more Located along the strip of businesses on Front Street, this family owned business have been a perennial destination for Michoacan-style Mexican fare for over 3 decades. The first thing folks will notice is the colorful decor of paper piñatas across the ceiling and the spacious digs with lots of 4 top tables for some limited group action. Orders are placed at the counter and the menu is vast enough where there is something to offer for everyone. Some immediate recommendations would be their tamales platter, along with their enchiladas rojas, and their Americanized tacos dorados. Their burritos are especially large and a complete gut bomb for anyone looking for a major filler. Their ceviche tostadas are beautiful, along with their layered tortas, and hearty chimichangas. While I don't love their corn tortillas or the tacos, I would be down to give them another shot. Cabeza and carne asada especially. The prices have crept up over the years, to where many items have hit the sub $10+ range and even tacos are at $3.50 a pop. There is a price to pay for fame, but the only time it should be dinged is if the price no longer matches the quality. Ultimately, this will always be one of the city's most popular lunch destinations and local haunts. It's so well known that Obama has been here (#1) and continues to bring in new faces every week. This is a must visit for any Mexican food lover and especially for first timers in Woodburn. ____________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/luiss-taqueria-woodburn?select=iYjRIeJrLS47keUaG0_vVQ

You can immediately tell that this is a local favorite. Everyone who came in spoke Spanish. We tried a few tacos, a soup, and the mole enchiladas. We loved how they use freshly made tortillas! Super fresh and fluffy. For the tacos, I liked the Asada the best between that and the Chicken Mole. Wished they have Al Pastor for us to try. The Mole Enchiladas were filled with shredded chickens. The mole itself was tasty. The Lengua Soup that we got was a hit. Full of tender lengua pieces. The broth itself is very savory and meaty, great for the cold weather.

I love a flor de calabaza taco/quesadilla/anything I can get my hands on, but it's hard to find most places. So, upon seeing that I could get a flor de calabaza quesadilla here, I took that opportunity up (alongside a delightful hibiscus agua). That quesadilla is one of the best I've ever had. The Oaxacan style tortillas are a bit thicker than what someone thinks of if they aren't Oaxacan, but whoooooosh. They are huge and delicious! I wish that I had room to try more, because they had so much good stuff that I wanted to try. Definitely recommend adding their salsa to it! Of note, this place caters to locals and to Spanish-speakers (as it rightfully should, especially given the area). If you feel that there's a level of rudeness/briskness - it's probably a language and a cultural barrier. We had great service and no problems with the staff. However, it's apparent that English was many of their second (and maybe even more) languages. When that's evident, one should be patient and not expect for them to talk to you a ton - especially if you're rude and/or racist toward them. You still got your amazing food and get to eat it!
