A friendly server sorts me a pink panther smoothie and a miso chickpea salad. I scout the surroundings and chilled out cozy vibe. No clinical juice cleanse stuff here just honest healthy goodness. They have some really cool beauty products id love to try including toothpaste and a charcoal toothbrush! I'm not even half way through and I'm feeling so much better. My salad is unapologetic in its deliciousness. Ginger, miso, chickpeas, red cabbage, coconut, seeds, peppery micro greens, carrots. Yummy I'll definitely be back!

My pick is the peanut butter with sea salt, though be sure to have a coffee on hand to get around that stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth feeling. The coffee here is delicious, so it's absolutely a viable option for a weekend brunch or even afternoon tea if you'd rather eat fancy toast over cake. Some people scoff at the idea of artisanal toast, but I'm all for it. When you have such great ingredients served in a way that is both familiar but innovative, why can't this be as highly regarded as some of the other breakfast options around? My only reason for not giving Crompton five stars is that I'd really like the interior of the toast to be warm. It's no doubt a tricky thing to do when you're serving up massive chunks of bread that need to be crispy and hot on the outside, though not burnt, but I think the consistency of heat right the way through is what many American toast places get right.

I couldn't decide which toast to order so decided to start at the top of the menu and work my way down on following visits. So on this occasion I had the avocado from the seasonal menu. It was good. Not outstanding, but good. Bread was tasty and the fresh coriander on top added some zing. Others that sounded tempting were the corned beef with pickles, the hummus with cucumber and chilli, the grilled pears with blue cheese and walnuts and the pumpkin with feta and caramelised onions. Oh my. Too much deliciousness - and these are just the savoury options! Coffee was good and they are serving bottomless sparkling water like a lot of cafes have started to do these days. Service was so super friendly so I had to bump my review up to 4 stars. I'll be back to work my way down the menu...

Great food, fresh juice, bad chai…read more It might be a bit unfair to include "bad chai" in the tag line, but as an avid chai drinker I couldn't help but notice how incredibly not tasty the chai lattes are. The mix seems to have an uneven blend of spices and each time I order one (hoping it will be different) the flavors are lost floating in an ocean of too much water. BUT WAIT! The freshly squeezed juices and succulent smoothies definitely account for the lack of tasty chai. There are different variations to choose from (my favorite is the veggie juice: celery, ginger, beetroot, lemon, and apple) and the staff is accommodating for changes and additions (I often add carrot and spinach for an extra healthy experience). The food is always enjoyable even though I don't eat there too often (I mostly just go for juices and coffee) and it's a relaxing spot to hang on a chill Saturday morning. Plus, it's situated on the corner next to Newmarket train station so if you're in the area...it's convenient. One attribute I would note, however, is that the staff always seems busy even when they aren't that busy. No one is rude, but compared to other cafés I frequent there is less incentive for familiarity. I would return more often if someone actively remembered my face, I suppose. But then again, I visit cafés for the experience more than anything else. I would rate Pepper a 3.5 if I could, but since I can't I'll round up to 4...because I'm nice. Now go drink some juice.

There is ample street parking and a park with a playground within minutes away.  My friend had arrived a few minutes earlier and put down our names on the waiting list. She was told it would be a 25 minutes wait. So, in the mean time, we got coffees. She got herself a soy flat white, while I was refused a skinny cacao mocha as they do not serve skim milk. When my friend asked why, they said it was because skim milk is full cream milk with the fat removed and added sugar. Though I beg to differ, I had to suffice with the full cream extra hot cacao mocha. Their homemade cacao is bitter and hence my drink was quite bitter but I could barely taste the coffee as the cacao was so overpowering. Perhaps, I should have ordered a double shot cacao mocha.  We got seating within the 25 minutes and were offered seats in the corner. While I had a comfy couch to sit on, my friend appeared to be sitting on what looked like a bed. She had the waitress climbing up behind her to serve drinks and food. As this looked quite awkward, we were then moved to shared seating on a long table near the kitchen. Here I noticed that the cafe has outdoor seating which I would have much preferred as well as swings that you can sit on. The swings look pretty cool but I prefer stable seating.  My friend was hangry and ordered the nutrition bomb which is 23 bucks and has eggs, alfalfa sprouts, pumpkin/sweet potato and other goodness. I found the menu slightly disappointing as I love eggs and most of the dishes suggested that you add on an egg ($5 for an egg - umm I buy a dozen for around $3), but then I guess you go to other cafes for eggs or eat them at home.  I got the smiling avocado - a dish with two slices of bread (their sprouted bread is sensational), lots of cherry tomatoes, crumbed feta, smashed pea and mint puree, smashed avocado beetroot relish, and chopped chilli. The portion sizes are huge so I do not recommend you order any of their large sides to share unless you are very very hungry. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and enjoyed the slight sweet flavour that was perhaps due to the beetroot relish. I could have done with more chilli but feared asking for added chilli as that is an extra 2 bucks. Service is quick and staff friendly. They have a minimum 20 eftpos limit (seriously!) but then it's easy to exceed the $20 limit where almost everything is an add-on (eggs, avocado, chilli, sweet potato, pumpkin, and the list goes on).  I believe their menu is best catered for people who like to mix and match items to produce their own brunch meals. Whereas for me, I prefer pre-designed brunch items that are wholesome and affordable.

I thought I'd be trying one of those cafés that offer 'healthy' (note: healthy but not really) alternatives but I was shocked when I looked at the menu and was presented with *genuine* healthy options. I opted for the smashed avo with a Ruby Red juice (beetroot, carrot, cucumber, orange and ginger) and was so happy when I was presented with an appropriate pile of avocado on delicious bread (that I could actually cut) and a healthy size serving of freshly made juice. A plus! The only down fall is that the space is quite small! Get in early (after your gym session, of course) to avoid the crowds as it's a first come, first served kind of place and given the huge amount of tasty items on the menu, it's easy to lose track of time and stay there allllll day long.
