It is a small museum but packed with an amazing amount of items. Very informative about the local area. Worth a visit.

Didn't realize the visiting hours for the museum had already come and gone by the time I arrived…read more Was wondering why no one else was there. I only say this because the front door to the art galleries was unlocked, and I helped myself to a leisurely look at the exhibits. Honestly, I probably wasn't supposed to be there, but I didn't know any better. After all that, I very much enjoyed looking around at the art work, as well as the grounds encompassing the buildings. For my next trip, I'll hopefully get better prepared for actual visiting hours. Until then, I'll consider it as a private viewing.

Somewhere in there is even a story of of how Barnard traded with the Indians for a (captured) woman, who later became his wife. I highly recommend reading the Mill Museum info at the web address. The docents are super friendly and will take you through the building, which was bought by Richard Moore on the 2nd August 1979. He restored and furnished it with antiques from the Federal period to the Eastlake period (1775-1875). He established Barnard's Mill Art Museum in the old hospital addition and filled it with the art collection from the Fielder Foundation and art works of his private collection. A must see while in Glen Rose. PS. Did not make it inside on tis trip, as it's only open on weekends and we were here on a Tuesday.

Not to be confused with the actual product which I don't love. It's also a museum believe it or not! Dr. Pepper is a weird drink, and one which never really appealed to me for various reasons. It's not bad but it's not great. Like I said just weird. So when I first used to drink it, it tasted like medicine and chemicals, and honestly if I'm being straight up with you it still does. It's a bit like root beer but fresh homemade root beer has something special about it, a bottle of Dr P doesn't. They also make Snapple. Oh snap. Ple. Snapple used to be one of my favourite drinks in the world. I still like it quite a lot. The Lemon Tea was the first one I tried, age 16 in Washington DC wandering around at 7am in a bad part of town, but the Lemonade Tea took its place for awhile... I love both still but I guess I'm back on the lemon now though I used to drink this weekly and now it's less than annually. A lot of the flavours that I used to enjoy are now just bad, like Kool Aid, they probably always were but I was young and didn't know better, but I do think they have some good things going on, especially with the tea flavors. They're little on the sweet side, but you can still taste that tea and I do appreciate that. I have to give them a high rating for introducing me to lemon tea and being very symbolic of my love affair with America from the 1990s that never ended. They'd score 4 if not for that nostalgia factor.

I was in town and killing time before meeting up with some people in the evening, and came across this as an option. I swung by and was thoroughly impressed. The young man behind the counter was friendly and walked me through where I'd be going and what I'd be seeing. I was the only one in the "next group" for the intro video, and he even delayed the start time since I ran to the restroom before roaming the grounds. They have an impressive display of artifacts ranging from early Texas all the way through the frontier days, including a very impressive array of historic guns towards the end. They have interactive kiosks and hologram displays where actors portray historical figures and tell "firsthand" accounts of what was experienced on the frontier, right out of the accounts left by those people beforehand. There's a second theater towards the end of the museum that's a lot more immersive. You have to rotate around in a swivel chair as the story is told from all around you, and there's lights and sound to really sell you on the experience-- all from the comfort of your air-conditioned chair. I don't plan on being back in Abilene anytime soon, but if I ever was back with friends, I'd take them here to check this place out.

Good coverage of the Native Americans and their culture. It was seriously the best kept museum I have seen. And many hands-on elements. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.
