Il baptise son lieu "Théâtre des cinquante". Atelier de création et studio d'entraînement pour les jeunes acteurs, le "théâtre des cinquante" connaît une forte activité théâtrale à la fin des années 80 et au début des années 90. Enfin en avril 2001, GRL Productions cède le "Théâtre des cinquante" à Cibyl Productions. Celui-ci est rebaptisé "Comédie Bastille". Afin de favoriser l'expression théâtrale de jeunes compagnies en leur donnant accès à une salle dotée d'un plateau de dimension respectable et de programmer un théâtre de divertissement destiné au public parisien, des travaux sont décidés en mars 2002. Les changements nécessaires ont été réalisés en été 2003 grâce au concours financier de la Mairie de Paris et de la Région Ile de France. Le théâtre est climatisé.

The bathroom had graffiti on the walls (which I 100% appreciate) and was still kept in fantastic condition. Moving on to the food, FANTASTIC. I got the marinated chicken and savored every bite of it. It went perfectly with the recommended wine and I finished everything off with a very solid espresso. Will definitely come here during my next trip to Paris!

A majority of the time, Paris has failed on all of these fronts. But lo and behold tucked away in some Belleville back street exists the awnser to all of my white american melancholies over missing his beloved cafe/office. Yet there is nothing American about this place - the guys who work here pump revolution roots reggae, smoke something herbal, and chill whilst the open air passes through the sunny front room. It's more reminiscent of an island cocktail hut. In the back there is ample comfortable seating and I think later on in the night they host stand up comedy. We came to see Russian Circles, a three piece instrumental metal band from Chicago, and tickets were a bargain €14.50 - I guess due to its small size the venue only caters for lesser-known acts. Downstairs through the double sets of doors it's almost entirely dark which really set the atmosphere for the gig. The place gets packed out and views can be limited if, like us, you turn up after the supporting act has finished and are on the mezzanine level surrounding the stage. The amount of bodies down there means it gets hot and sweaty, but you can escape to their small bar for a drink. Don't be surprised if two medium-sized Kronenbourg beers cost you the same as the entry fee!

The people who work here are very sweet and kind and its a nice change of atmosphere from the hustle and bustle of the center of Paris.
