Whoever answered the phone in Admissions this morning 08/15/2025 needs to get off the phones! First of all she didn't even introduce herself when I called so I never got her name. She picked up the phone and said "hello, how can I help you?" I introduced myself and began explaining that I wanted to transfer from my current college and she cut me off right after I said "transfer" to say "hold on" and there was a moment of silence. She then came back and said "transfer where?" And when I said "to Columbus State.." she proceeded to transfer me to an automated system with no explanation. I don't even know who she was trying to transfer me to because they never picked up the phone. This is incredibly rude and I wish I could report this woman! read more

My daughter graduated from here. I can't review the college experience although she seemed to Love it. It's a small school with about 7000 students. Which she loved. My review is about the look of the campus and the graduation. The campus was very clean and green. They had it whole graduation planned out really well. There were police officers directing you where to go. And then they had a shuttle that would pick you up and drop you off at the graduation building. They only had a few schools graduating at our daughters 3:30 pm graduation. They evidently had a later graduation and a Saturday graduation for other schools of study. It really cuts down on the length of the event and the traffic getting in and out of the college. I thought this was very smart. It was quick and efficient. The graduation was less than an hour long. read more

My daughter is a freshman this year! Move-in day ran really smoothly and there was a lot of help. The students really had everything all planned out and helped a lot. There were also free snowcones! She will be on both campuses for classes; her dorm's on the downtown campus which is right in the heart of Columbus and seems super fun. There were a number of student organizations that had a lot of activities for the first week so she's already met some new people. Go Cougars! read more

He typed: "Columbus is a pretty dull, backwards, cliquish small town so off campus entertainment is almost non-existant unless you have the time and money to visit Atlanta and social life/on campus events are almost nonexistant unless you're either in Greek life or a Christian fundie. The few lame "events" on campus would be a ghost town if it weren't for free food and t-shirts. Local job market is horrendous. Food is rather expensive and leaves a lot to be desired. The surrounding town is extremely backwards and rural and is pretty much the armpit of America. Most administrators who are native Columbusites can be very corrupt, so Atlanta students, North Georgia students, do not be fooled by CSU's "First Choice" PR campaign." The college is as good as most I have seen. I attended a top-tier university with several world-renowned departments. They are specialty departments heavily involved in astronomy and space exploration, closely linked to NASA and the Jet propulsion Laboratory. Columbus State may not have those programs, but the academic departments are all good. Columbus is the sort of place you come to GET AWAY from the Atlanta mega-mess. Get it ? The local job market features many large and respected companies, especially in manufacturing. I don't know where Sean T gets his information. Columbus is a nice city, with its share of blight and problems, but the urban waterfront is probably the nicest in the country for a city this size. Local dining is not expensive that I have ever seen after 19 years. Good specialty restaurants, especially along the historic waterfront. It would be nice to know the surrounding circumstances that provoked that rant about CSU and Columbus... read more

As a MIS business major, this University provides many opportunities that make it very competitive with other Universities in Ga. Examples are: Certification for one of the Business World's most used programs by that company, fair tuition costs, very good support for veterans, internships with large company's like TSYS and Aflac, great student recreational facilities (the gym, pools, climbing wall are great), and a great faculty that go out of their way to help students that show effort and ask for that help. Parking can be challenging at times but I am sure that is common at other Universities. I really enjoy it here and for a business major it really is a pretty great place. Just for clarification, Shawn T in a previous review says "This "university" has a 30% graduation rate thanks to a combination of mediocre local high schools and harsh grading from professors." He is skewing numbers, which many people who are not educated enough to understand them often do. So for he and other Yelp readers I will clarify. He is referring to the "on-time" graduation rate, which does not consider transfer students, persons taking more than 4 years to graduate, or several other factors. To fairly compare, consider that Auburn University's "on time" 4 year graduation rate is 38.2% and the national average is 34.4%. Also consider CSU has many active military and veterans that are "non-traditional" students like myself that also count against that number. As you can see CSU is actually very close to the average, but I guarantee you that the professor to student ratio is much better here than at Auburn. Plus, let's get real, only the people who could not get into Alabama end up going to Auburn anyway:) read more

Though this institution is not for those seeking a research oriented experience at the graduate level, they are smaller and offer many degrees for us working people. They do have a wonderful student center with a rockwall, swimming pool, basketball courts and so forth. They also host 5ks, disability awareness fairs and so forth. Of course, this is my perspective and I encourage you to research the specific program you are interested in pursuing. read more
