It was around 3 am I was unplugging things because I was afraid of technology , the fear I have of AI the fear or objects merely because I stressed myself out about college and work and forcing myself to become older all at once without taking my time to slow down. I felt Cold and afraid and then hot , I felt like I was going in and out of somewhere but my body couldn't stop moving so much , my mind my body felt detached from my own life , having to slow down after coming back has made me realize how much I should value my time and not stay inside my head. I need to work on my communication, I want to learn to accept help better but it's a challenge for me because I want to be able to be independent, I want to live my happy life and have what others have but not without help. Wow. I am surprised by all the negative reviews for Heartland. My experiences have not been like…read morewhat other reviews have shared. My Mom has had various health issues over the past year. In February, she had fallen a few times in a weekend and became very weak. After a brief stay in a hospital, the doctors determined she had come down with a UTI. The hospital recommended that she go to a skilled nursing facility for temporary care to build up her strength and allow her to recover from her illness. Hospitals don't give you a lot of time in finding a facility. In searching for a facility I needed one that was close in proximity to me. I came across Heartland. They provided me and my sister with a tour of the facility and explained their services. They have both semi-private and limited private rooms. They offer physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional staff, 24 hour nursing care and assistants, activities center and more. The facility was very clean and bright. Conveniently located on Dublin Granville Road across the street from La Scala restaurant. Lots of parking available for when you visit. I admitted my Mom to Heartland where she spent five weeks recovering. Her overall care was great. Mom even liked the food. She needed physical therapy, occupational therapy as well as speech therapy. The staff were very friendly, busy helping patients, listened to my questions or even concerns about my mom's care and therapies. Staff were always prompt to respond when my Mom used her call light. She received excellent nursing and treatment care. In fact, one of the underlying medical issues that my Mom had been struggling with for a long while, they were able to develop a treatment plan that has helped her control her condition. The various therapists worked closely with my mom to get her back to her normal self so that she could come back home. The reason I do not give them a five star is because of communications. I have not had to go through something like this before. Administration, nursing, therapy and social work staff would all listen and even engage family in helping come up with the best plan for my Mom. The challenge I had was that being unfamiliar with their processes as well as "who's who" that I needed to work with was frustrating at times. There were a number of different departments and services engaged, it was challenging knowing who I needed to work with for which services. As I became more familiar with the facility as well as talked with their admissions / customer service staff, I was better able to orient myself and then able to interact more efficiently and effectively. Right before my Mom was ready to come home, my sister fell and fractured her femur. She wanted to go to Heartland. So, when I was getting my mom discharged we were admitting my sister. My sisters experiences have been similar as my Moms, except she is a little more particular about their food. It's not home cooking, but still decent. Pleased by the progress my sister is making here. So, not only would I recommend the services here, we have had the occasion to use them for a second time.

The facility looks nice, but the care my husband received was not good. He was here until we could…read moreget him home for hospice care at home. It took a long time for the call light to be answered, this was one of the less severe things. The last weekend he was there (Nov. 2-3, 2019) he had an aide that was rude and abusive. She was frustrated that he was not eating his lunch (he was on full liquids) since he was tired and kept falling asleep. After a few times, she moved his bedside table with all his liquids (including his water) against the wall, out of his reach. He could not get out of bed, so he could not drink any of his lunch or his water. When I got there and asked him about it, he told me what had happened and also that the aide had slapped him in his private parts area. I did report this to the nurse; she came in and my husband explained what happened to her. She said she would take care of it. My husband had to be taken to the ER on Sunday night/Monday morning. Once there, I saw he had a bedsore on his back. The staff at Heartland was supposed to be checking him daily to make sure that the pressure bandage on his back was still there and he did not have a sore. Obviously the aide that slapped him had not checked him for several days. The pressure bandage was rolled up in the bedding that came with him from Heartland. I went back to Heartland to advise them of all of this; at the Monday morning staff meeting they had not been advised of the slapping situation by the Nurse. I don't know if the aide was fired or suspended, but she should not be working with people in this type of situation. I would never have anyone I care about go to this facility again, since we had this horrible care shortly before my husband passed away. No one deserves to be treated like this.

I am a current employee of The Grand of Dublin. For privacy and safety reasons, I will not identify the department I work in. What I will say is this: If my own parent, grandparent, or loved one needed long-term care today, I would NOT choose this facility. That statement alone should speak volumes. Before I address the problems, I want to recognize the people who continue to carry this building on their backs. There are incredible aides, nurses, kitchen staff, Activities, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and other employees who genuinely love these residents and go above and beyond every single day despite being overworked, understaffed, underpaid and unsupported. I would love to recognize each of you by name, but I won't because I don't want anyone to face retaliation. You know who you are, and the residents are fortunate to have you. Now for the hard truth. One of my biggest concerns is Memory Care. These residents deserve dignity, compassion, stimulation, and opportunities to engage with others. Instead, I watched opportunities become increasingly limited, due to them not being allowed to leave their units. The Activities department consistently created meaningful events, and they deserve tremendous credit for bringing joy to residents despite the obstacles placed in front of them. What disturbed me even more was hearing certain employees openly say they "hate" the very residents they are paid to care for. Healthcare is stressful. Everyone has difficult days. But if you've reached the point where you resent the vulnerable people depending on you, it's time to step away from this profession. I also personally observed residents waiting extended periods after using their call lights. That should never become normal. Residents deserve to be treated with urgency, dignity, patience, and respect--not as inconveniences. The building itself is beautiful. Families walking through the front doors will probably be impressed. Unfortunately, a beautiful building means very little if the culture inside it is broken. There is far too much gossip, finger-pointing, favoritism, and unnecessary conflict between departments. Instead of working together, people are often blamed for problems they didn't create while the real issues continue to go unresolved. That doesn't just damage morale--it eventually affects resident care. I also want to acknowledge the kitchen staff because I personally watched them receive unnecessary disrespect while simply trying to do the job they were trained and expected to do. What I could never understand was hearing employees openly say they "HATE" an entire department because they didn't like how certain procedures were being handled. That isn't professionalism--it creates division, destroys teamwork, and ultimately affects resident care. I heard those comments far too often, and no department deserves to be treated that way. Could the food improve? Yes. Could organization improve? Absolutely. Could additional training benefit the kitchen? Of course. But here's the part many people seem to ignore: every single department could benefit from additional training. No department is perfect, and no department should be made the scapegoat for larger operational problems. Respect is not something employees should have to earn based on their job title--it should be the standard. Housekeeping, Dietary, Nursing, Activities, Maintenance, and every other department all play a vital role in caring for residents. When one department is constantly blamed or disrespected, everyone loses--especially the residents. I also witnessed what I perceived to be unequal treatment of some African American employees and employees being encouraged to leave paid 5-star reviews. Fairness cannot be selective, and trust cannot be bought. Respectfully I cannot recommend this facility to anyone looking for a safe, respectful place for their loved one.

The care I received here was better than I expected. I had heard from former patients that they were recommending Mill Run Rehabilitation. The care from not only the staff, but the doctors and therapists were also very supportive and encouraging to me. The Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist had me out of bed and worked with me to get me up and moving when I didn't think I could do anything yet! I was very sore from my surgery but with their help, was up moving long before I thought I was ready! The administration was friendly and worked with me to try to get a few more days to work on using the steps in therapy to be able to get into my home. Unfortunately, insurance did not agree and I had to leave due to the fact that I would not be covered by insurance any longer. I was discharged from Mill Run and I was ready to move home! There were also activities for the residents to do as well as groups that come in and have different activities for them to participate in! Since I was there near to Christmas, some of the entertainment was geared toward the holidays. The only complaints I had would be about the food. On weekends, there was less food on the trays with no desert and very small portions. On a few days, the food was very spicy and very little taste but heat. I wondered about the senior population and the amount of spices that were used! My only suggestion was to try to get more staff to work so that everyone is properly cared for. The staff l was fortunate to have were incredible! It would sometimes take a while longer for them to get to me, but they were always there as quickly as they could be! She'd gotten very sick two months ago, she had to have a trach and long story short, she was transferred to another facility who, had her transferred to this hell hole of a nursing home! First of all, if Arlington does not have staff around the clock who are skilled at suctioning patients with new trachs then it is ILLEGAL for them to accept a patient who's needs they can't meet! The nurse told my brother that my sister stopped breathing while she was suctioning her, this tells ME, a retired nurse in NM, that the nurse had her airway blocked much too long! Once she stopped breathing they called the paramedics who transferred her to Riverside who pronounced her. DO NOT LET THE HOSPITALS SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO PLACES LIKE ARLINGTON! Their last survey in 2024, they had MULTIPLE nursing issues, Specialty is also at fault for not ensuring they had staff who could provide the level of care she required.
