My son wears contacts and has a very basic, slight prescription. His last annual checkup was in June, and I have been generally satisfied with the care, until recently. Last week we ran into an urgent problem and the staff at S Eye Care were surprisingly unhelpful and quite rude. My problem: We were leaving on Thursday 12/6 after school for Vermont -- my son was registered to race in two ski races. On Wednesday evening, my son told me he was out of contacts. He knew I had placed an order for contacts on November 9th through lens.com and that I had received a shipping notice on 12/3. However, when I looked online to track the delivery, they were not scheduled for delivery until 12/8. So, on Thursday morning at 9:00am, I called S. Eye Care to see if I could buy enough contacts at their office (he wears a daily disposable, very common prescription, same script in both eyes) to get us through the weekend. The woman I spoke with (Stacey, I believe) took my information, including my explanation of the URGENCY of my problem, and told me she would check to see if they had any of his prescription in stock, would speak with Dr. Sweitzer, and would call me back. After leaving my last meeting at 2:00pm, she still had not returned my call. So I called her back, and she told me that Dr. Sweitzer was not willing to sell or provide us any sample contacts. I asked her if she explained the urgency of our problem to him. She said she had but his policy was simply not to dispense any sample contacts. I was admittedly upset and asked her why she could not have bothered to call me back with that answer. She claimed she had JUST spoken with him. He had been too busy all day to be interrupted, presumably. At that point, I told her I would like to talk to Dr. Sweitzer directly when he was available, and then I also asked to speak with Vickie, the front desk staffer who I thought I had developed some rapport with, since we had previously discussed some of the challenges of raising teenage boys. I thought Vickie might be more able to understand the dilemma my son and I were in, and she generally has seemed a bit more "with it" than the first younger woman I had been working with. Vickie got on the line and told me she was uncomfortable with being put in the middle of this problem. She repeatedly and quite rudely told me that "this is YOUR problem, not mine" (she said those exact words at least three times). I was shocked and upset by her response but tried to calmly reply: "Yes, I know this is definitely my problem, as well as my son's, and I was asking for your help in solving our problem." Not only would my son not be able to race without contacts, but I would be out at least $600 with non-refundable lodging, race registrations, and lift tickets. All Stacey could say is, again, "this is YOUR problem, and you are trying to make it mine, and I don't appreciate that." I finally accepted that I would be getting no where with them, so I asked again for Dr. S. to call me when he was done seeing patients and she assured me she would give him that message. Two staffers assured me they would give him the message. Dr. Eric Sweitzer NEVER called me. At any rate, I quickly called LensCrafters, briefly explained my problem and asked if I could purchase contacts in their store, with a valid prescription. Tim, the assistant manager at the Colonial Park store, told me they could, checked his stock, and confirmed they were available. My son and I stopped there on our way out of town that evening, and Tim was everything you could hope for in customer service. He ordered us one box (a requirement for dispensing samples), and gave us enough samples (3 boxes or 15 contacts) to safely last us until the order would arrive (which arrived only 6 days after placing the order). We had a great weekend, and I was only MILDLY annoyed by the automated text I received the next day from S. Eye Care, wishing my son a Happy Birthday. Gee, thanks. LensCrafters has one new customer, and Dr. Sweitzer has one less customer. I'm not sure why he cares so little about his patients, or this patient in particular, but I figured since he doesn't care about losing us (or he would have called me, at the very least) - maybe he would care about a negative review on Yelp (something I have NEVER done before.)

My husband had a severe eye issue and stabbing pain in his eye and the receptionists there looked at my family like we were crossed eyed when I mentioned ER services even though their website states this is a service they provide. They didn't give any clarification or stated that we had to be established patients. Im sure their normal services are fine but they need to remove the ER services on their website if they don't provide this at all! Also i called first before going but no one answered the phone.

I use progressive lenses as do most people at my age, and there is a lot to think about to optimize the lens for your eyes. A chain location at Park City who makes lenses on site really didn't have the technology - or at least the optician couldn't explain or find information on the technology - used in their lens manufacturing for progressives. no go! I'm an engineer, I researched the science, how to prescribe, what to measure and which lens types are best suited for needs. I want the optician to be at least as well educated as I made myself. My current lenses have issues; additionally current frame was a bad choice for my active lifestyle - optician should have cautioned me at least. This time I was super careful. I also nixed another private eyecare professional for not even having the equipment to properly measure the lenses they were recommending to me, essentially selling me an expensive custom tuxedo rather than a standard suit, without taking my precise size measurements. Crystal at Jacobson was educated, thorough, and above all understanding of my incessant questions (hey, I'm an engineer armed with data) and had the right, honest explanations when I was playing dumb. I give her a gold star for just spending the necessary time with me to make me happy without a grumble or even an attitude. Wow. I also appreciated when she was honest and tactful in explaining any misconceptions I had. Gotta love the truth. Now to be fair, at the time I right this I have not received the lenses. I am probably not able to comment on the quality of the lenses themselves without comparing them to less quality products simultaneously. But we took the time necessary to make the best possible outcome. So...I had a great experience and I hope you do too. And beware some other eyeglass providers in Jacobson's market who just want to use all the 'default' measurements for your personal eyes. It isn't rocket science but care is required. Good luck!

My first visit included a discussion of my eye history and family's eye health, followed by a traditional exam. Because I had been experiencing issues with my contacts, Dr. Andren asked me to come back a week later to see how they were. When I came back, I explained that I was still feeling dryness and pressure, so he put stain in my eyes test the dryness, changed the brand and material of my lenses, and retested my prescription. I left with different lenses, a different prescription, and anther follow up to ensure everything was perfect. I have never been happier with my contact lenses and I really feel like I am in the best material and prescription for me (which is actually weaker than the prescription I have been wearing for 5+ years). I lost a pair of the glasses I had bought 7 months later ( January). I'm about 5 months out from my next annual checkup. I don't want to drop a lot of $, when I may need a new script in a few months, but do want to have a back up pair. Although I have never done it before I was thinking about ordering a cheap pair on line to get me through to when I would go back to see them in June. I called them to talk about my situation and to ask them for the Pupillary Distance (PD) measure because that was missing from the prescription that they had provided me. After speaking with their representative I was told that they do not give that measurement to the patient and that is only kept for them when you buy glasses from them. Tried explaining my situation, that I had paid for an optometry examination and that I expect the PD is a part of what I had paid them for. For the most part all I received was a rude response. In my opinion their policy shows that they care nothing about their patients and are only concerned with making as much as they can. Instead of a repeat customer from me and my wife, we will choose to take our business elsewhere. I will not recommend them to anyone I know and leave it up to anyone who cares to read this review if they should do business with them.
