I introduced my parents to the location and we celebrated special occasions here dining outside in the garden and appreciating the inn and grounds. Later on we purchased gift certificates and even set up a memorial brick for my brother overlooking the gorge. My only brother is buried in Minnesota, so we thought this would be a spot to pay respects and remember him when it is difficult to go back to Minnesota. My family was completely devastated and heartbroken when the View Point Inn was destroyed and damaged by a fire several years ago. The two owners tried to salvage it, and then the state stepped in. There was a lot to rebuild and repair. We couldn't frequent the spot because it was blocked off due to damages and destruction. Yellow tape blocked off most of the area, and the building was in real bad shape. Over the years, we saw different signs about construction and hope that the building and site would be repaired for people to enjoy it in the future. This spot holds dear memories for many - this spot was a spot for weddings, memorials, birthdays, anniversaries, and filming locations. It's a cherished spot. This year I had recently read in the Oregonian that this place had replaced it. I was surprised that a Western Medicine place was now at the location, but I was optimistic and at peace that a place called, "The Healing Order" would lift it into a spiritual and beautiful place of healing and growth. My mother and I were coming back from Bonneville Spirings last week. We thought about asking about their services, but it was 5:20 pm on a Friday so we thought we would just peak at their garden to see if it was restored. Unfortunately, all the memorial bricks were removed or stolen, but at least we could see the place we called our sanctuary. We saw a lady leaving the parking lot who waved at us. We proceeded to check out the back garden. To our surprise, a young woman came out of the building and asked us what we were doing. When I explained that we just came to get a glimpse of their garden and see our memorial spot the lady said this garden is now private and only reserved for patients. She was very curt and rude. She told us to leave due to HIPPA violations. No one was outside. I have worked almost 3 years in healthcare - up at OHSU and at the Oregon Clinic and I have never told anyone they had to be escorted out of a garden due to HIPPA laws. This woman acted like we trespassed on her very own private garden. She was not the owner, nor did she know the background of the place because she was younger. She just stared at us, repeated that we had to leave no matter what, and was very unwelcoming. On the eve of National Mental Health day, she made us feel hurt, discouraged, and damaged. She acted like we were no longer allowed to visit this place that gave us comfort and joy. If that's really the policy, then you need to put up signs or have a gate. According to the website, it looks like new clients are still being accepted. I inquired about a restaurant and she said they didn't have one, but their website says they have one onsite. She didn't explain any services, but essentially said it was a closed facility only for preferred patients. Definitely not the healing vibes advertised online or in the article I read. My mother and I felt really bad about the experience. The person we dealt with had no compassion or understanding to our past with this place and made us feel awful just for spending a minute here. I originally was optimistic and actually wanted to learn more about their services, but now I just feel bad. It's unfortunate that a clinic that has a reputation for being a scam on here - is now at this location. Sad.
