The Civic Center area of Denver reminds me of a Washington D.C., by the Rockies. The State Capitol Building reminds me of the United States Capitol and the Colorado Veterans Monument reminds me of the Washington. This isn't surprising since it is shaped like a smaller, red sandstone version of the Washington Monument.
Just like the Washington Monument, the Colorado Veterans Monument is a very patriotic place. On the date of November 10, 1990, this monument was dedicated to all veterans past and present. Inscribed on the sandstone, it reads "Dedicated by the people of Colorado in gratitude and respect for the men and women who have proudly served and sacrificed in our Nation's Armed Forces."
The Colorado Veterans Monument is on the east part of Lincoln Park which often gets mistaken for Civic Center Park which is on the side of Broadway closer to the City and County of Denver Building. Regardless of the name, it is in a very scenic Park that takes in the Colorado State Capitol Building and City and County of Denver Building. This is a spot where we sat, calaborated, and took in the moment. This is a spot near sufficient shade that provided an awesome photo spot with both the Monument and Colorado State Capitol. Building. Just looking at one of the photos below, you can see the beacon pointing towards the dome. If you are into photography, I recommend stopping here. This is also a close walk to the Capitol Building step that says "One Mile High" and upper steps that look across the City and County Building towards the Rockies. It is also a close walk to a replica of the Liberty Bell. From the bench, I partook in these short walks.
When I visited here, it was busy. This was when the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup. And Denver was happening. So, although there were a mix of some homeless people, they were under control and kept to themselves. I saw a lot of people enjoying the mile high air and some squirrels.
In my opinion, the Colorado Veterans Memorial is a must see if you are in the Civic Center area. I appreciate it's beauty and most of all the veterans past and present whom this Monument is dedicated to. read more
