But thanks to the Aspen Higher Learning Flight Academy and Trevor Fredrickson, director of operations, American aviation is one step closer after my son, Doc, completed his discovery flight last Friday. I sent my son and daughter Bobbi, who rode the back seat, off with Trevor without hesitation and they both came back hooked. Life memories made, and Doc got his first log book credit. Nothing gets people excited about aircraft or spacecraft as when they get to literally put their hands on one. If you want to give a kid an unbeatable experience, have them take a discovery flight. And try it at the Aspen Higher Learning Flight Academy, where the instructors and the views are unrivaled.

With the exception of a rather befuddled and out-to-lunch XML instructor, every course was taught by an experienced, professional instructor with lots of workplace experience in the subject he was teaching. A polished office staff makes sure students are informed well in advance of upcoming classes in their field. The office is kept neat and clean, and the classroom computers are totally free of the technical glitches you find at other learning establishments. Machines are prepared by the instructor prior to the arrival of the students on the first day, so no time is wasted creating virtual machines and installing prereq software. AmeriTeach offers official vendor curriculum from Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc. etc., which is designed to give you the knowledge necessary to pass certification exams from those vendors. Other local tech schools, LeaderQuest in particular, offer courses written by who knows who that do not have that focus. If you're seeking a place to get a good, solid IT education from professional, informed instructors, choose AmeriTeach. Stay as far away from LeaderQuest as you can. I would have given this review 5 stars had it not been for that one overmatched and unprepared XML instructor.

In all reality, it was my boss's idea to attend, so I could come back and brief him and the other supervisors (all 20 of them) on how we can all utilize our time more efficiently. Located off Alton Way in the Tech Center, the building was easy to spot and provided a decent amount of parking. However, entering the lot is a bit tricky, as there is only one entrance and exit creating a little bit of havoc. Despite the awkward parking layout, the building itself is large, and shares the space with surrounding businesses. There is another location in Westminster as well - but I have yet to go there! To the left of the front door, is where the training happens! Filled community tables, with sleek laptops all facing the front, there is no bad seat in the house. The course itself was interesting, both introductory and complex, and lasted just one day. We were given an instruction book, with spaces to take notes, fill in the blanks and provided us with a more interactive experience. We were allowed a generous hour for lunch and ended the day early after plowing through the lessons in record time. Courses are offered on a variety of topics, with some lasting longer than others and start at $450 - which isn't half bad! Ken, our instructor for the day, was insanely friendly, providing fun conversation - both professional and personal - and allowed plenty of time for all types of questions. He also provided coffee with 7, I repeat 7, different kinds of flavored creamer for our enjoyment! After all was said and done, it wasn't a bad way to spend the day and can see me attending more courses in the future!
