How can you rate a simple highway on Yelp? It is totally evident, this open stretch of road is so beautiful to someone who grew up in the southwest desert and loved the journey to the rockies to go fly fishing.
This highway is just a simple two lane going north and south from the Santa Fe area to the foothills of the rockies in southern Colorado! Bringing my relatives up this way through the years we could see from the road where the river was cutting through the landscape. The vegetation grows very high closest to the river. The cottonwoods grow so large next to the river, and helps holds other vegetation in place keeping a great eco system. This is so important for the bug life which helps feeds the trout in the area!
What is really cool is my small and young nephews and niece really understood the importance of the eco system here and we could tell by the bug life here helped us forecast how the bug life further into Colorado would be for out fly fishing.
Along this highway, a person can spot some of the new snow on the high mountain tops, there is also a sand dune that makes a great back drop as well!
What a gorgeous drive coming out of the desert into the foothills of the mountains. read more
