There's plenty of parking and it's clean though housekeeping never touched my room during my three-night stay. The hot breakfast was unremarkable. Some of the furniture in the room was chipped though everything functioned. The bathroom was a different story. The shower required a feat of strength to turn on and attempting to change the spray pattern instead unscrewed the showerhead from the spigot. The Wi-Fi was very slow. Only one elevator was working of two and the clock in it was six days slow. It's cheaper than many surrounding properties and there's a reason for that.

I am diamond status and always get thanked and offered a snack or drink but nothing from her. No biggie maybe off day. I ordered a king room and get there and it is 2 queens. The room is hot as you know where. The AC is off in summer. I get a text asking if I need anything. I politely say I ordered a King room, the room was like a sauna and no welcome as diamond. She says sorry the thermostat is on the wall. I again politely let her know I found it but I ordered a king room. She said are sold out. Again I said but I paid for a king. She then in all caps (cut and paste from her text) : " I am SORRY THAT YOU ARE IN A DOUBLE WE ARE CURRENLT SOLD OUT.". I'd avoid this place like the plague.

The only downsides were that the front desk didn't seem to be available 24/7, and housekeeping wasn't provided daily unless requested. Since we spent most of our time exploring the city, it wasn't a huge issue. There was some noise from a group of loud teens during our stay, but overall I'd still recommend this hotel. The rooms were spacious, neat, organized, and clean.

The traffic there is always a mess, getting in and out is a hassle, and the surrounding area just isn't great. I recently discovered this hotel, and I honestly can't believe I haven't been staying here all along. The area is beautiful, safe, and so much easier to navigate. The hotel itself is spotless and truly immaculate. Every evening when I walked in this week, the front desk staff (especially the woman working nights) greeted me with a warm smile and a genuine hello. It's such a small thing, but it makes a huge difference when you're traveling for work. The breakfast area was also incredibly clean and perfectly stocked each morning, even though I only grabbed a few things here and there. You can tell the staff takes pride in keeping everything fresh and organized. Overall, everything about this hotel exceeded my expectations. It's officially my new go-to spot whenever I'm in town. I'll be back frequently, so I hope they're ready to see me pretty often! Thank you for a great stay.

The overall vibe is still warm and welcoming, just like our past visits. But the attention to detail is starting to slip. On this stay, the elevators had crumbs sitting in the corners, the room had stray hairs in a few random places, and the window seals looked like they had not been dusted in a while. Was the room filthy? No. But if I had to put a number on it, it felt about 70 percent clean and 30 percent needs attention. Because my wife and I have stayed here multiple times, we can definitely tell the standards are easing up a bit. This is the kind of stuff that is easy to fix now, but if it keeps going this way, it gets harder to bring the place back to where it used to be. Will I stay here again? Maybe. It just will not be at the top of my list like it used to be, and not anytime soon. They've got some work to do, and I hope they get on it, because this used to be a really dependable go-to for us.

Victoria and Calvin(Manager) apologized. The associate gave us the room next door. There was no refrigerator, remote control, or hot water. Additionally, the bedding was stained. I called downstairs about the refrigerator and remote. Calvin said maintenance would bring them up. Maintenance brought just the remote, and was rude when he did. He pounded on our door and said nothing, just handed the remote. I called back and was told Calvin had left. The associate said she would move us again. She also said she'd check the room. We came to the desk, got the key. When we opened the door the room wreaked of a smelly dog. It was absolutely awful. We went straight back to the desk. She asked us to take a seat in the lobby. Now she is no longer being nice or polite. She's rolling her eyes, being short and not extending eye contact. She hands me the phone, and doesn't really say much. Calvin is on the line. I explain what happened and mention again we've been traveling for 13 hours, it's late and we're tired. He responds by saying he's been working 16 hours. At that point, I'm so put off and feel very disrespected and invalidated. I respond by saying I've paid for a service and amenities I am not getting, which is most certainly not the same. When I questioned the lack of customer service he says he is solution focused. However, he left the property without solving the problem and we were paying customers who were forced to wait in the lobby at 11pm because the property was not well maintained. Additionally, you can be solution oriented and still extend customer service. We couldn't even change hotels because everything was sold out. Currently, the refrigerator doesn't work, we can't sleep under the covers because of the bedding, there is no hot water and no one has followed up with us. This stay has been a nightmare. I was informed the manager from William Tell Sonesta would be taking care of this issue. Also was told via email that Sonesta was investigating and would follow up. It's been several days since I submitted a complaint and no one has followed up from Sonesta.

Checking-in, it's beautiful for sure, great first impression. We got in super late so the worker at the front desk was super nice and said we could just leave our car by the check-in curb because "the parking lot is so far away." I didn't know what that meant at the time. I found out, it's not even reasonable how far it is. It's down a hill, about a 5-7 minute walk! There's no easy way to go from there to your room. Then, the room was nice, good storage space. But, whoever cleaned the room left exactly one wash cloth, two towels, and two hand towels and literally half a roll of toilet paper. Day one was late, we'll make it work. Second day, I tried calling the front desk (there's no housekeeping number) but nobody answered so I left a note for housekeeping where they could see it coming in. We came back to the room, oh, nobody came to clean the room. I called and got someone, requested; three washcloths, toilet paper, floor towel for the shower. She showed up with three washcloths, super angry look. I was like, could we get the toilet paper (we were almost out) and the other towel? She sighed, rolled her eyes and walked off. I was thinking, if they had stocked the room before we got here, or cleaned it when we were here, this wouldn't be an issue at 10p. I stood there, she eventually came back and just held the stuff. It was weird, she didn't hand it to me, I had to take it from her. Everything is so spread out, it's definitely a "resort" feel so that's what I mean if you you're here for a wedding, all in one experience, then I'm sure it's amazing. But, as just as home base for something, this isn't convenient at all. Also, there are toll roads around it and coming from O'Hare, I had GPS set to avoid toll roads and it did but the one way coming here, the free road had construction and forced me onto the toll road, so be careful of that, as I didn't have a transponder and got dinged.

Unfortunately the overall condition of the hotel fell well below what I expected. Through out our stay which was 6 days. We repeatedly had to ask for basic items and services instead of them being provided proactively. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and it often felt like we were inconveniencing the staff by requesting the essentials. Everyday we had to ask to have our room serviced. The food at the buffet in the breakfast area was always out of food. And items were not replenished in a timely manner leaving guests with limited options. There was the usual scrambled eggs, sometimes hard boiled eggs ( but not always) omelettes, sausage or bacon, like that high carbs. And then the bathroom plumbing was an issue, the drainage wasn't going down fast enough in our bathroom sink and we stayed here exactly a year ago the same time and the same thing happened in another room on another floor, the general manager was nice enough and he overheard the conversation and said if there's anything we can do let us know. But this is a very poorly run hotel, the heat for the week that we were there in Chicago was extreme( in July)and somehow they had no AC in the lobby fortunately there were AC in the rooms but nothing in the lobby which made it unbearable to eat breakfast that early in the morning. The most concerning issue was the cleanliness. While unpacking after returning home, a live beetle or roach crawled out of my one of my packing cubes. The following morning I found another 2 inch half dead roach on my bathroom floor near my vanity bag where I left hanging out, while I can't say with certainly where it originated, this is caused significant concern about the cleanliness of our hotel room!

I can see where they are trying to go, but it's not there. The place is in disrepair if you pay attention at all (cracks, holes, chipped paint), a crappy elevator, there's even random crap thrown in a corner still in view of guest. If you want to be taken seriously, then handle all the stuff no one sees that isn't sexy, rather than just putting lipstick on a pig. There's no consistent theme. It's like 5 different people walked through a 2nd hand store in a rush, with no other options, so each picked what they found in their scavenger hunt and then threw it all together. It's a big space. The staff was great and welcoming. Seriously, they were solid. The place is a 2 star, but staff is worth another star. It just felt like coming to visit my aunt who doesn't get a lot of visitors so she threw everything in a closet knowing guest are coming over. We all have to ignore the smell and everything else. The stuff on the walls makes sense to her as they are her memories, but there's no theme other than her history, so none of it makes sense to anyone else. It's just awkward. The reason this place isn't booming is 100% on the owner. They are trying to look bougie, while ignoring real issues, and clearly in way over their head attempting to do way too much with too little. They need to take a loan or get an investor and make this place amazing. It could be, but it's not. Then again, not sure if the place they dream of could survive in that area as the prices would need to double and the area may not be willing to pay. Potential investors may have said the same. I see the vision, but also see the reality, which just frustrated me as there was conflict around every corner. Also, the bar closes early at like 8 or 9pm. Additionally the upgraded rooms with "garden view" are anything but. The actual room is good. The detached building however looks like it was a nursing home that's never been changed or upgraded; at least on the outside and entrance. When you walk in the front door of said nursing home, it SMELLS like a nursing home. It was strong and not in a good way. When you are in your room and look outside at the "garden view", it's a crappy 1/2 wall that appears to have been designed and built as a favor by a drunk uncle who was in a rush. It's very small and insignificant. It's an eye sore, but the "garden" is actually just the back yard looking directly into a crappy middle class neighborhood of back yards. All in all, my "get away" upgraded experience felt more like a motel 6 with a $1,000,000 dream on a $500 budget.

This is a hotel where the staff is genuinely the star. The valet, a seasoned guy with a classic Chicago accent, was warm, quick with recommendations, and set the tone the second we pulled up. The front desk matched him. For a four-diamond property at around $200 a night, it punches well above the price. The property itself earns its reputation. The landscaping is beautifully kept, with a gazebo and plenty of outdoor seating that works for a quiet morning coffee or an evening drink. Inside, the lobby has what look like Chihuly-style glass sculptures and a mid-century-Chicago kind of grandeur -- you can tell this place has hosted a lot of weddings and receptions, and it would be great for them. Our room was impressive. No real view, but the finishes were strong, the shower was good, and, a minor miracle, the TV actually worked and streamed without a fight. The in-room drink cart was generously stocked with pre-made cocktails and select wines, a nice touch you don't see often. The bar downstairs was a highlight: the "skeleton key" in the room unlocks a free off-menu drink, which is exactly the kind of small-theater move that makes a hotel feel like it has a personality. Our Platinum Marriott status got us a room upgrade and complimentary breakfast, and they were generous with points on top of that. The breakfast was nice -- though I'll be honest, I wouldn't have paid $24 for the quality of their continental spread without the comp. Parking was easy, valet is free, and the gym has Peloton bikes (we didn't use them, but good to know). 3.7 stars overall. The honest gripes: doors on the east building are thin. We could hear hallway conversations clearly, and at times other rooms, not a dealbreaker this time as people were quiet at a reasonable time, but surprising for a property at this level. The exterior lighting has also not been maintained, bulbs are out around the building, and only the "th" in the classic mid-century "The Drake" sign was lit up, which is a shame because that sign is a whole vibe when it's fully on. Also, fair warning: a traveling baseball team had effectively colonized the bar during our stay, with a swarm of tired kids and tireder parents. Not the hotel's fault, but worth knowing if you're coming for a quiet getaway during kids baseball season. What would push it to four stars: better sound insulation on the east-side rooms and a maintenance pass on the exterior lighting. Both are fixable, and the rest of the experience is already there. We'll likely be back.
