It all started on November 5th when we had a scheduled pickup from Colonial Van Lines between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. By noon, when the movers hadn't arrived, we called customer service. The representative didn't have any information and promised to call us back, but after an hour with no response, we called again. This time, we were told the movers would arrive between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. At 8:00 PM, there was still no show, so we called again and were informed that the drivers were running late. By 8:30 PM, we reached out again, but the representative couldn't provide any updates since it was after hours. They promised to call back, but no one did. Finally, after 9:00 PM, someone arrived to pick up our belongings. Who starts moving at that hour? This caused noise violations and disrupted our neighbors. It wasn't until well after midnight that our belongings were loaded onto the truck for transport to Florida from Rhode Island. My husband and I were mentally and physically exhausted, and we had to book a hotel in Rhode Island, delaying our plans and causing me to miss an important in-person interview. The driver informed us that our belongings would be delivered by November 8th. However, that day came and went with no communication from the company. Despite multiple calls, we received no answers--just assurances that dispatch would call us back. No one ever did. Eventually, we learned our delivery would be delayed until Tuesday, November 11th, with a promise of a call to confirm the time. Wednesday arrived with no call. When we followed up on November 11th around 4 PM, we were told our delivery was now scheduled for Saturday, November 15th. I expressed my frustration over the continuous runaround and lack of communication, but the customer service representative hung up on me. This happened multiple times, leaving us feeling manipulated and deceived. Now, on Monday, November 17th, we received an invoice that differed from the one sent last week, adding to our frustrations. I requested to speak with a corporate manager, but was told they were too busy. Long story short ... a 4hr job took 12.5 hrs, additional charges incurred, and military discount not honored! So dissatisfied!!!! A $12,000 job is up to $14,000 right now. I'm not the right person to ask how many boxes will it take to pack the house. After serving 24yrs in the USAF, I never had to know how many boxes does it take to pack my house. Colonial rep kept asking me how many boxes was needed, I kept saying I don't know. The rep threw out a number and I agreed. On packout day...after packers packed 1/2 the house, the packers told me the number of boxes was way off. At this point, since they've already packed and loaded a few items onto the truck, I had no choice but to move forward. After all was done, I completed a survey reflecting my concerns. One of the managers, Paul, called/spoke to me to validate my concerns/comments. He acknowledged my dissatisfaction. I asked about a military discount...they denied it. You'd think after how dissatisfied I was with the whole process, they would've honored my military discount. Colonial Is one of the worst moving companies I ever used. They farm your move out to other moving companies and don't tell you. The price is constantly changing. Dexel transportation company part of Colonial transported my car and it fell off the transportation truck and caused $10,000 worth of damage. which they said was my responsibility to get from the company when I signed a contract with Colonial. Items missing and it has been 6 months still no response. The movers where not real movers they were construction guys that they hired. Movers could not move some furniture we had to move it ourselves. Charged me for items that I didn't even own. The whole experience was very stressful and communication was terrible. Colonial Van Lines blackmailed and lied to us. Avoid this moving service at all costs. I would trust a random person on the side of the street over Colonial Van Lines. I have moved at least 6 times in the past decade and this has been by far the worst experience I have ever had with a moving company. My spouse and I began our move from Colorado to South Carolina in April of 2025. Everything was running according to schedule, and we called in late May of 2025 to confirm the delivery window for South Carolina between June 21 and June 27 2025. The contract was then updated with this delivery window. On June 19th, we received a confirmation email from Traveen Ellis in Customer Service confirming the delivery date of our furniture on June 22nd. Because our entire move was planned around this delivery date, we called three times on Friday, June 20th confirming this delivery date. Furthermore on the 20th, we were contacted by Colonial to pay the remaining balance even though the contract specifies that the remaining balance should only be paid upon the delivery of the furniture. Upon hearing the good news and CONFIRMATION that our furniture was being delivered on June 22, we immediately left for South Carolina in preparation to meet the movers. The excitement quickly wore off, and the nightmare began. On the evening of the 20th, we received a call from Colonial saying that our moving date was actually moved to July 4th due to a broken down truck. This threw all of our plans into chaos, leaving us stranded in an apartment with an empty house in South Carolina. We called Colonial about this situation and asked to speak with a manager for an explanation of nearly a 2 week delay because of a "broken down" truck. The manager, who would not provide their name, was not able to provide any information at all. They had to speak with their management team, and promised a call back on the following day with a resolution, the 21st of June. On June 21, we did receive a call back from a manager at Colonial, who again did not reveal her name. We were then told that the truck had actually not broken down, but that the driver was out of hours. Rather than provide a resolution, the situation was made even worse when this manager told us that July 4 was just the beginning of the new delivery window, and that the delivery could take longer. We were lied to about the reason for the delay. There was no broken down truck. A driver being "out of hours" does not explain a 2 week delay. Immediately, we became suspicious about such a delay. We asked the manager where our furniture was, as we had paid for climate controlled storage, and the manger was unable to tell us where our furniture was. They lost our furniture. If Colonial cannot tell us where our property is, they have lost it. This is theft. We are now left stranded with none of our property, no idea where it is at, and no solution or even an attempted solution from Colonial. To add insult to injury, we were told again on the 21st of June that we wouldn't have an answer for at least 3 more days. Clearly, Colonial has no idea what they are doing and are likely scrambling to find the property that they lost. After my initial review, Colonial is now using blackmail against me. They delayed our move again to July 5th despite receiving multiple confirmations of a delivery date on the 4th. Rather than help us, they threatened us and told us to remove this review or they wouldn't compensate us for leaving us stranded without furniture for over two weeks. read more

Absolutely terrible experience with Colonial. Contracted them for a cross country move. Like others have mentioned I ended up paying way more than what was originally quoted and the original price was why I went with them in the first place. Beware of the quotes you receive as it is hard to estimate how many boxes you will have. They lost our soundbar and our tv and refrigerator were broken. I'm in the process of filing a claim, but am told they only pay .60 per lb so I likely will only be reimbursed $120, if that. After paying these people 20k for a move I expect better service. Belongings were lost and not delivered. Some fine China, expensive towels in boxes were lost as well as a chain saw. When I asked about the losses Colomail sent me a claim form by email. Other people's belongings were placed on the truck with mine and I was promise that would not happen. The claim process is cumbersome and not a good thing at all. DO NOT USE COLONIAL VAN LINES. My moving experience has been horrendous. The company is a broker and the moving companies they call "agents" are horrible. There is a long list including time of arrival on pick up , the trucks they use and the delay in delivery. But the icing on the cake is my Harley. Was told they know how to move a Bike, they don't. First they moved our stuff into storage after pick up then when reloading into another truck , they attempted to drive my Harley up a ramp (which is not attached )to the truck and both the driver and my Harley fell off the ramp. The driver actually had to go the er. Then on delivery no way to get the Bike off the Truck. I had to call a flat bed tow truck to do THEIR JOB . It cost us $472,50.The damage to the bike which had to be towed to a Harley Dealership is estimated to be about 10k Have been dealing with them about this incident for 5 days now and have been flat out lied to. Absolutely despicable company and "customer service" team. My husband and I scheduled a cross-country move through Colonial Van Lines and about a week prior to our move, received a voicemail message from our account manager. We tried calling her back that day, as well as every day since and were not able to get in touch with her. Yesterday, we called customer service to confirm our moving time for this morning and they assured us that the movers would arrive at our house this morning between 8-11 a.m. We woke up early and waited for hours just for no movers to show up. We called customer service and after waiting on hold for hours on end, they told us the driver had an issue with his truck so they cancelled our move. However, no one proactively provided this update and we had to call after a no-show in order to learn this information. We have a lot riding on this move, as our current lease ends today and we are closing on a home across the country in two days, therefore, can not afford to delay the move. We spent the morning trying to get in contact with our account manager Bernadette, and when I finally got in touch and desperately explained our situation to her, she showed no empathy, made a rude remark, and hung up on us before sending the rest of our calls to voicemail. By some miracle, we called another moving company in the area who after explaining the unfortunate situation with Colonial Van Lines, offered to rearrange their schedules to get us moved today. Their names are Phoenix Express Specialty Moving & Delivery, so we highly recommend reaching out to them and not wasting your time (or dealing with the headache) of working with Colonial. This morning was an utter nightmare, as I am pregnant and we were literally about to be left without a home during the Texas freeze if a move was not to take place today. After Bernadette blew us off, we got in touch with a manager who was able to issue us a full refund on our deposit which was shockingly the fastest resolution and easiest communication that took place throughout this entire process. We never want to be the people to request a manager, but that is the only way we were able to have some sort of action followed through on from their end after repeatedly being told we would receive a call back with an update by xx time, just for us to have to reach back out after repeatedly getting ghosted. Please learn from our mistake and trust the reviews you see here. This is a sketchy company with no remorse for your situation, no matter the urgency. They had the audacity to charge me $7,481.70--an outrageous overcharge of $1,647.94! This is theft disguised as a service. This is theft disguised as a service. To make matters worse, when my belongings arrived in Nevada, there was only one mover to handle the entire job. I had to do the majority of the moving myself! This is NOT what I paid for! I cannot underscore what a terrible experience hiring Colonial Van Lines has been. We have over $30,000 in documented damage and still have items that are in need of assembly. We have been offered less than 10% in recompense and will be taking them to court in short order. If you have anything you care about, do not hire this company. We have a high-end piano that was not stored in the conditions promised to us, and ended up being stored slanted (!) on the keyboard side (!). This is by far one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company, not just a moving company but a company in general. They claim transparency and provide appealing estimates but don't follow through with their delivery timelines and add additional charges along the way. After sharing my frustration I've been bounced around to 3 different people and not a single one has been helpful. The movers arrived and intentionally parked further away in order to overcharge. They were supposed to walk us through the distance and chat through the additional charges, but they did not follow that protocol and didn't move the vehicle after my husband showed them open spots that were closer. They tried any chance they could to pack or tape over boxes in order to add additional charges, luckily we knew this would be an additional charge so we declined the offer, but it was shady as they tried to continue to charge us without mentioning that they would. My items were supposed to arrive by 11/1 the latest, we're now having to reach out each day to get on update that our items will definitely arrive by the weekend, over a week late. The movers left our items unattended in the basement for long periods of time and even broke a few items (that we noticed) so I can't imagine what state my items will be in. As they were moving the items carelessly they said, "don't worry you have $20,000 of insurance". ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! That's the precedent to set when movers are moving my personal items, a don't worry it's covered, when it's actually not....it's only $.60 per pound per item....so clearly they're unaware of that policy or they just don't care. I have already shared my experience and the lack of concern from the company in regard to my experience with many people and will continue to share it as I don't want anyone else to support this company or to experience what my husband and I went through, and continue to go through. Specifically a bag that contained an xbox and nintendo switch. Clearly, someone went through my stuff and it was stolen. When I tried contacting Colonial Van Lines I was repeatedly sent to voicemail. They are unwilling to take any accountability. I am beyond disappointed in myself for choosing this horrible company to move my stuff across the country. I just wanted to let you know that I am disappointed with what I was told and how it turned out by your company. I repeatedly told Veronica, Bernadette that Karlos about needing my items delivered by April 4th, 2025 in Goodyear, Arizona. However, as time got closer to pickup, I was then told by Bernadette it was now by April 6th and the final delivery was on April 7th. I specifically used your company because of the agreement of delivery and the trust factor I had with Karlos. Another issue is when your company used another companies list of items instead of sending the individual to see for themselves. I was even told by Veronica that 5 days prior to pickup someone from your company would come to see what was being picked up and a better estimate would be calculated. That never happened! The day the load was picked up was March 24th, 2025; the gentleman who was in charge had mentioned he had approximately 255 items. Some of the items I told them not to take was still brought to Arizona. When my load was on the truck, I was given an estimate that my load had 13,500 pounds on the truck instead of a little over 9,000 pounds. I asked him how he determined that amount and he said it was because of where the boxes and items ended up in the back of his truck. What if all my boxes had feathers in them, the weight would not be the same no matter where they ended up in the truck. This caused me to be very upset. How can he determine this without knowing what the actual weight was from your company. He should never do that to people because that is wrong. It caused a lot of turmoil for me and your company. It has been a little more than a year since my horrific move with Colonial Van Lines and I am finally able to sit down to write this review. I booked my move with Colonial Van Lines in good faith which was not returned by them. Colonial Van Lines subcontracted my move out to East Coast Van Lines without my consent or knowledge. Had they told that it would have been contracted out, I would have immediately gone with another company that I had been considering. Sadly, I should have followed my instincts and gone with the other company. The representatives at Colonial Van Lines are insolent, arrogant, having absolutely no customer service and lack even a modicum of professionalism. The way that the representatives conduct themselves on the phone is shameful. They speak to the customer with a tone of contempt accusing the customer of being rude when in all actuality, the customer is explaining that they are distraught and overwhelmed trying their best to explain a deeply distressing situation. The move, having been turned over to East Coast Van Lines, turned out to be one of the worst experiences; monetarily, emotionally and physically. East Coast Van Lines held my furniture from the date of pick-up, Dec. 22,2024 until the end of January 2025. The excuse was they could not get a driver for the truck to Florida. The truth turned out to be that East Coast Van Lines needed to fill an 18 wheeler before the delivery could be completed. My entire move was stored in an 18 wheeler / warehouse somewhere in New Jersey for over a month. During this month, numerous, numerous calls, and emails were conducted with Colonial Van Lines that were handled by the rudest representatives who couldn't seem to grasp the gravity of situation. And trying to get through to a manager or supervisor was next to impossible. The truth was never told me nor could they grasp the fact that I was paying rent on an apartment I could not move into for over a month. Every excuse under the sun was made and there was absolutely no concern for my dilemma. The story was the same, " there are no drivers going to Florida at this time." The delivery was finally made and to my horror my furniture was delivered damaged. Having been stored for over a month, my custom made platform bed had water damage, the art deco 1920s lamp was destroyed, a small antique table had gauges in it, and a bookcase had its molding broken off the top. The art deco lamp cannot even be repaired or replaced. East Coast Van Lines's way of addressing the broken molding was to completely saw it off and color in the damaged part with magic marker wood color. There is quite more that arrived damaged. All of this was sent to Colonial Van Lines who told me that if I purchased $2500.00 of insurance I could then submit a claim. The damages total was approximately $4000.00 and Colonial Van Lines would not agree. Photos were sent with comparable photos of similar items and cost but to no avail. This only added to the insult and injury. Adding insult was that not one representative listened to me with regard to where to send the small refund. I had explained numerous times that the credit card I had used for the move had been closed by me and that the monies were to be sent directly to me. Instead, the monies were sent to the credit card. It was one after the other example of how Colonial Van Lines could care less about me, my move, the aggravation, the emotional distress and damages incurred. In all my years of working as a professional workforce advisor, I had never experienced such a lack of professionalism, insolence, and arrogance. Nor would I have ever treated any of the clients I worked with in such a manner. And, my supervisor and manager never would have tolerated such behavior. The end of this horrific saga is my advice to anyone who wants to use Colonial Van Lines as a mover, to run as fast as you can from them and find yourself another mover who truly cares about you, your furniture and your business. Recently contracted Colonial for an interstate move which included packing services. They used a subcontractor to perform the move. They increased the price of the move from their original quote by over 30%. They broke or significantly damaged around 1/3 of our furniture, art, kitchenware, family heirlooms, etc. And they shamelessly stole my wife's jewelry collection, makeup, perfume, an expensive camera and several other valuables. In several cases they opened and pilfered through the boxes, taking the valuables and then resealed and delivered the boxes without the valuables inside. The movers were also rude and unprofessional. I lived on the phone with Colonial's customer support team throughout the process. They were ineffective, disempowered and unsympathetic. After I posted a negative review on another site, I was contacted by "Donna", a person purporting to work directly for the CEO to resolve extreme customer service issues. This was simply a stalling tactic. She never delivered on her promises and we have not had any contact from the company in weeks. We are moving to legal action. My delivery was (9) days beyond my delivery window. I was offered a very small credit for the massive issues and expenses the delay caused myself and my family. Plus i was charged an additional fee to more than cover the cost of the credit. the bottom line... my deliver was more than (9) days late and i had to pay more to get my items. It felt like extortion. Very friendly on the phone but showed little results when it came time to follow up on what was promised plus they were issues with the driver i wont go into but lets just say i was nervous. Do NOT use this company! THEFT, overcharging, TONS of extra fees making the cost nearly double!, crushed boxes *and more! Chris and I hired Colonial Van Lines to move items across country. The cost was to be 3000.00 The movers scheduled the move to be 2pm-5pm as the complex does not allow moving after 5pm. The movers showed up at 530pm. (In fact the driver was irritated that i sent him a text asking where he was) I had to beg the complex to still move out using the cargo elevator. The 2 movers assessed the apartment and i showed them items to take. 3 hrs later, they had lined the hallway with all the belongings, unguarded, unprotected with absolutely nothing in the truck yet. (this is a 600 sq ft apartment). They asked me up to the apartment to sign the contract... i notice that on the counter was my food, my cleaning supplies and MISSING was my new unopened case of water bottles. So i ask the guy (driver), "Hey, where are my waters?" and he says very flippantly "they are just waters"...and i said "yes, but they are my waters and i was taking them to work" and he starts getting defensive and says "what? you want me to give you money for the water?! It's just water! You need money?!" and he says "and by the way we counted the steps and we had to walk extra steps down that long hallway!" I happened to be on the phone with Chris (on speaker) and even Chris said "dude, what the hell!!!??? Is he arguing with you about him STEALING the waters!?!?" and then the guys says "just sign the contract or we can just walk away now and you will lose your deposit!"...Obviously i am having to sign all this paperwork under duress and knowing i will have to take this up with the owner of the company. I look at the contract...and mind you the quote was 3000.00. We had already paid 1600.00 of that in deposit. The new statement shows an amount of 2731.85!!! So yes, 1131.85 in ADDITIONAL fees! So wrapping up items (45.00 i believe was quoted to box a mattress but instead they just wrapped it in cheap plastic which tore immediately btw and was mostly torn off at delivery...) and boxing up items which they didn't tell us they would need to box up furniture like nightstands etc...then the "extra steps"...anyway, again, under duress i signed the contract. Upon my leaving they open up the moving truck, giving me back my water. But it gets way worse.... it takes nearly 2 weeks to finally get the furniture delivered. They claim their truck is too big to fit down the street so they want to charge extra to have a smaller truck deliver the furniture....then they claim the weight is 400 lbs over the limit and want to charge extra so Chris meets them at the weigh station and it was just 100. Then when they arrive they claimed that they cannot deliver the furniture beyond the lobby without charging extra...then Chris notices that all the boxes have been smashed in, un-taped (the ones we did) and the ones marked fragile are especially smashed in. They made him sign a form there saying everything is delivered which Chris refused to do until they got into a heated conversation and finally Chris signed the form under duress yet again...how in the hell can they expect you to sign a form without unpacking all the way?! Chris had spoken to the owner Nicholas initially about this move. He informed Nicholas that there would be a firearm in a case in one of the boxes. Yesterday, because Chris noticed that every single box had been un-taped and re-taped etc he immediately goes to look for his firearm...he finds instead a broken and EMPTY case. Nicholas has not returned a call in 2 weeks . A police report was filed yesterday and supposedly CVL is "investigating" this incident...but after the water incident, i have an idea who has the stolen firearm (that cost over 1000.00 i might add). I did a move from Tampa to the Florida panhandle. It was nothing but a nightmare. How are these thieves in business. Do not use them. Do not trust them. They use third party movers who took my money and colonial then wanted me to pay them. Now they have damaged antique furniture, broke one of a kind pavers , didn't bring my rubber gym mat , well brought it. But didn't take it off the truck. Because they had someone else's stuff mixed in with it. Broke decrotivie pot plants and a host of other things. Do not use. Stay away. They sound nice at the start and promise the world. They only deliver poor service and zero quality. They have not got back to me in 3 months of asking for the insurance to try and get my antiques fixed somehow, or anything they broke. And they won't answer phone calls. Yet they immediately go to threaten me if I didn't immediately pay. Tell your friends and family to never use this company. We trusted Colonial Van Lines on 8/14/2023 to pack, wrap, and move our furniture and belongings interstate from California to Alabama (which included disassembling and reassembling our furniture). We were aware and paid extra for a Shuttle Crew to pick up from a storage unit in California, and for a Shuttle Crew to unload at our new home due to lack of access for an 18-Wheeler. Colonial Van Lines required us to send them an Itemized list of our furniture and belongings and charged us by the pound according to their list estimating the pounds of the items. We were told by Colonial Van Lines that this estimate would be adjusted to actual weight and services provided. We went with them because the truck was going to be exclusive to only our belongings and we were assured that our belongings would be loaded and a lock would be put on the truck until the destination, therefore nothing would be lost in the move. We paid the initial deposit upfront, and we were required to pay the balance in full before they unloaded our belongings. The shuttle crew did not show up at the time the delivery truck arrived at 7am. The shuttle crew showed up 6 hours later. The truck driver was threatening to put our stuff on the hwy. The Shuttle crew had a total of four guys which took them until after midnight to unload. The Shuttle crew was unable to reassemble our furniture as the parts box was missing and left us with piles of debris all around the outside of our house. Most of our furniture, which is custom made or antique, was severely damaged, or rendered useless due to missing hardware. 18 of our belongings, and 19 Totes are missing that had Nostalgic collectable Christmas ornaments and decorations that my husband's Parents and Grandparents collected from 1960 - 1990. We were overcharged for packing materials according to Colonial Van Lines Household Goods Descriptive Inventory form and estimated cost of packing and unpacking services list. We never received the actual weight or adjustment for services that they did not render our cost was only increased $1,117. by the packers stating they used more packing materials. After filing Colonial Van Lines claim form within the allotted 120 days. Which consisted of 17 E-Mails, 60 photos. We first received a response from Colonial Van Lines that they would reimburse us $500. Then $1,100, $1,500, then $2,000 if we signed a form stating we would remove any negative reviews we made about them. We paid Colonial Van Lines $28,819.27. It has cost us $868.07 so far to somewhat fix only some of our furniture (of which some furnishings were heirlooms from my husband parents). In Colonial Van Lines response, they have changed the weight of the items to less than what they had originally listed when they charged us, they estimated the cost of hardware to put our furniture together and the cost to repair the damaged items instead of going by the weight of the item per their contract that they charged us for. My husband is 65 yrs. Old and not in the best of health. He is a Navy Veteran, Cancer Survivor, who is currently fed through a G-Tube / Feeding tube. He has respiratory issues. I am 66 yrs. Old with bad knees, Slipped disks in my back, Asthma, COPD, and respiratory issues myself. We struggled to clean up all the debris before it rained. We had difficulty finding the correct size hardware and then had to physically put this heavy furniture together ourselves when we paid Colonial Van Lines to do this. They rate themselves as the number 1 moving company! I do not recommend anyone using them, as they do not stand behind any of the people that are packing, moving or unloading your belongings that they hired. We were taken advantage of as we were physically incapable of micromanaging all these people with our belongings. Horrible experience with Colonial Van Lines. Do NOT hire them. I cannot stress that enough. The service was horrific and cost us so much stress, time (hours spent on the phone with them for 0 results!!), and let's not talk about all the extra costs and hassle (rebooking flights/hotels, dealing with our building's management,etc). I want to share my experience so others know better! Their service level is worst than the poorest you can think of. They have been completely unreliable with setting dates for the pick up and drop off of our stuff, including a 12 day discrepancy for drop off!!! they were outside of the 2week window they set themselves! we had to rebuy so much stuff to sustain an extra 12 days! They are ridiculous. Super badly organized, their planning team is obviously amateurs, and their only answer is that the whole moving industry is the same..! WOW! NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER hire these people. Worst experience of my life. My story is very similar to the other reviews. Everyone that works there should be fired. The only reason none of my stuff is broken is bc I used heavy duty bins for packing. When I moved from NJ to CO a few years ago, those movers broke so much irreplaceable things so I wasn't taking chances this time. I just moved from CO to PA. My stuff was picked up on August 19th. They didn't speak any English. They gave a window of delivery from August 25th- September 8th. It took my previous movers 5 days. These people didn't show up until September 12th! Weeks spent on an air mattress. I wouldn't have even minded if I was able to get an ETA or someone to call me back from the company for all the calls I put in. How they could never reach 'dispatch' is still a mystery. They actually tried to say the 13th, but then the movers just showed up. I was supposed to get the accrued $30 a day late reimbursements and I was preapproved to put the balance on my credit card. The delivery driver, worst human being alive, said only cash or money order and no discounts. He wouldn't even open the truck. It was interesting that then the moving company conveniently sent the reduced invoice to pay online. That only angered the driver. Then he insisted that I was out of the 75 feet range to reach the apartment and wanted to charge more. I called the cops. They came and were trying to find a way to arrest the driver bc they agreed is was bull. If you need cops to have your things delivered, that's more than a problem. Hours go by and said to just carry everything 75 feet, and I'll take it from there. I ran up to open my door. I came down and the cop said the driver was told by his boss to bring everything into my apartment. Which they did without saying a word and of course did NOT assemble my bed or sofa. WARNING! Do not hire this company, they perform bait and switch tactics. They purposely provide a low estimate, because YOU have no idea how much your belongings weigh (they do, they're the experts). They get you to sign the low-estimated contract that charges by weight, and then your weight is double what they estimated when it's delivered. Our estimate was $7200 and when they showed up to the house, the weighted cost was $12,000!! We only had a 26ft truck. They then refuse to open and empty the truck until you pay. Then, when you speak with the company about the bait and switch tactic (Ben and Erika), they ask for "time to review", and don't call you back. When you then call back, they ask for more time, tell you they'll "make it right", and then never call you back. I think they stall so that it's too late to file a dispute with your credit card company. Please don't hire this company and make the same mistake that we did . Update: after I posted this review, I received a call from the company telling me that "Erica" would be calling me. Well, she called me and said she'd really research the issue this time, and call me back. Then she called me back, was extremely confrontational, and said she'd call me back in 4 more days (by Tuesday). Well, today is Wednesday. No call. Shocking, right? read more

Moving from California to Idaho. Do not hire this company they destroyed an Estimated $3000.00 of our furniture and appliances and if you do not buy their insurance, they only offer .60 cents a pound for replacement, this is an insult. They had a posted 9.6 Rating so I figured they have to be doing something right, so based on that rating I did not buy insurance and thought why do i need to, this company will take care of our precious hard earned items, boy was I wrong. What a scam. They took apart my daughters bike to supposedly save space and in the process destroyed it had the bike for week before this move(Brand New). They took apart furniture and then lost the hardware. We had a box full of items my wife got throughout her cancer treatment and are non-replaceable given as gifts were all shattered and broken. Half of our boxes were smashed or torn and thrown around. Is moving the customers items safely and complete not part of this companies agenda. Pathetic! Broken monitors, TVs, keepsakes, bikes, heaters My Arcade Cabinet, a Water Dispenser, parts of the shelves we had were missing the parts to put them back together, and the list goes on. Horrible customer service, very rude when I complained and made all kinds of empty promises and they were three weeks late delivering our stuff with a measly $30 dollars a day compensation, because of this I lost work due to their delays. We slept on an air mattress for three weeks. Had to purchase 1500.00 worth of clothes/blankets/toiletries due to winter in Idaho at the time just to stay warm since the bulk of this stuff was on the truck somewhere. If there was a negative scale or no star I would give them that. By the way they will charge you $30 dollars for an empty 5 Gal Water Bottle to go on the truck. My initial estimate went from 5,000 dollars to a final price of 9,600.00 upon delivery. They also had us sign all of our stuff was in good condition upon arrival, what was i supposed to do go through 200 boxes while they stood there and waited. What was i supposed to do not pay, then they would have not delivered our stuff. This is a scam company. We filed a claim and they insisted that it was our fault in the packing process that my 65" tv was broken when I bought an 80.00 TV Box From Home Depot just to avoid this from happening. They still managed to break it. They broke a 32" Monitor packed in Bubble Wrap packed in clothes inside a box and still broke it, you should have seen the box after they moved it. My Arcade cabinet they cracked the glass on the face of the cabinet, even though I double wrapped it in moving blankets. July 2023. Cut-rate moving company that outsources. No matter what they say, do not believe them when they tell you it's Colonial that does the entire move. They hire "agents" for the shipping and delivery. Went from CA to SC. The packers were from Next Stop moving, another company in CA. The delivery guy in SC didn't even know he was working for Colonial. He barely spoke English, and didn't know how the delivery process worked. I would not have hired Colonial if it meant hiring these people. Colonial's account managers were friendly enough, but they didn't know anything about the move, and their information was wrong, because the move was outsourced. They told me my estimate was fine as long as I didn't end up having hundreds of pounds of more things, then when the sub-contracted movers called Next Stop Moving showed up, they had to get a "re-rate" because I had stuff like backpacks and a briefcase, which caused an hour delay. It was ridiculous. I told the movers my preferred date of delivery, but I'd be available whenever they got there. The mover told me to call the next week (pickup was friday night) and find out when it was scheduled to ship, and I could add storage in SC if I needed it. This was wrong and miscommunicated, Colonial charged me for storage immediately and ignored my half dozen calls and emails to try and get this resolved. They kept saying they'd talk to "dispatch" and get back to me on an estimate of arrival, but never did. On delivery with Next Stop Moving, I have two broken items (so far) and they make you pay up front before they can deliver. I have no idea what else is broken until I unpack everything, but they want you to sign that everything is fine. How would I know? Plus, Next Stop charged me twice for the delivery which I now have to get resolved and Colonial won't help. I'm dealing with a separate company than Colonial, they have nothing to do with the move except partnering with a sub-contractor to nickel and dime you. You get what you pay for and this scam company is not a full service mover. Its ending up costing me, and even though its more expensive I'll go with an actual full service company next time like gentle giant. read more

Everytime I remember something that is missing. Today it was a guitar my dad used to play. I get sick to my stomach thinking of all the crap these guys got away with. Why didn't we listen to the reviews? Please, please don't use this company. They lost valuable items, damaged beyond repair numerous items, lost boxes, had a driver who drive some tractor trailer that isn't Colonial Van Lines who clearly was on drugs and couldn't figure out how to get his trailer down a residential street. Colonial sends shuttle services, they don't actually move your things. Which numerous reviews said. Reviews also said the truth-they couldn't be nicer when setting things up. As soon as the work starts everything falls apart. In the middle of them unloading our damaged and broken furniture our "account manager" (who suddenly became "Just the messenger" when she called to ask how things were going and I told her) called as I was trying to mark off boxes I had numbered and kept to demand I sign something that the people who loaded us didn't bring. I told her I'd sign when I felt like it and they called the poor Colonial shuttle driver and we could hear some man yelling at him. Yelling. That I had to sign. We just moved in, no wi-fi and my computer was underneath boxes and I told the poor guy there wasn't any way I could sign. He told me I had to sign or he had to stop unloading and take the rest of our stuff. Colonial sent him whatever it was and I signed. He also told me they had not paid him in two weeks so after this job he was going to quit. Don't blame him. No matter how nice the "move coordinator" and "account manager" are don't belive them. Don't. We also have read that they sue their customers, so sue away Colonial! If it takes my last breath you won't win if you sue us. This is the worst move we have ever had, and we moved across country several times. Sure, we have lost a few boxes. But never had furniture with gouges in it (not scratches, deep gouges), broken chairs, broken exercise equipment, lost valuable items- oh and for whoever lives in North Carolina who got a delivery before us this week, they have several of your things including a sled, rug and other items. Can't rememeber everything they brought in that wasn't ours that we made them take back, but we do have several things of yours including a step stool, some garden tools and not sure what else. Sorry. We'll take good care of your things. If you got our beautiful little side table, our antique bookshelves and tool box, enjoy and take good care of them. That tool box had tools my husband had inheirted from his dad who inherited it from his dad. And some valuable tools, so you should be all set for tools! Everyone who reads this, we beg you not to put yourself through what we have just been through today. Moving out of state is never easy, but it shouldn't be a living nightmare; Colonial makes sure it is a living nightmare. Oh, and the "account manager" said she'd "check in" with us tomorrow after demanding I sign something in the middle of a house move that was their fault. I ever so not politely told her never to call us again. Our Colonial shuttle driver urged us to file a claim, I suppose because they have not paid him in two weeks and he wants them to suffer. We would love them to suffer, but we know how this turns out. If we ever see a dime it will probably take blood from us. Lord knows they couldn't possibly get more money out of us than they have already. Seriously, no matter how bad the reviews of other movers are they absolutely could not be as bad as this crowd. Be Aware of unexpected conditions to surfaced after deposit is made. Several boxes were lost in the shipping and the conditions of many of the boxes as well as the furniture were delivered damaged. @ColonialVanLine is quite possibly the most inept moving company on the planet. I experienced nothing but problems with them. Do not, by any means, contract with this company, they're the worst! My property was moved from Long Island down to Florida to arrive at my new home in PA, try to make sense of that. In doing so they damaged and destroyed so much of my property I'm still trying to come to terms with it. Broken dinnerware, destroyed furniture, missing items, and somehow they tried to deliver items that weren't ours! They also have possibly the rudest staff ever, obviously they do not understand the concept of customer service. I would consider a stranger with a van before utilizing this company. TERRIBLE!! TERRIBLE!! TERRIBLE!! This is for a move from NY to Florida. The pre-move stuff went great...an estimate was done, down payment made. Sunday before the move i'm told they will be there Thursday between 8AM-12PM. I called thursday morning to verify, and told yup, no problem and that the driver will call me about an hour before arrival. At 12:30pm I call Colonial and ask where my truck is. They check dispatch. Oh, it will be there around 3pm. I call my "Account manager" and send an email, with no response to either one. At 4pm I call again and am put on hold so they can check with dispatch. While i'm on hold the driver calls and says he will be there in an hour. When Colonial picks up again, the lasy says between 4-8. No communication at all. A Pickup truck arrive around 5:30 and says the truck is lost and should be here in 10 minutes. 25 minutes later truck arrives and move starts. I should point out it was made crystal clear to me that a tip is expected. (I didn't realize the truck goes to NJ and switches) My plans were destroyed due to this mess. Cut to a few days later. I get a call from the (new) truck driver at 8pm! telling me delivery is tomorrow. What time would I like delivery? I ask if 9am works. He says no problem, see you tomorrow. At 11AM I call colonial...so where's my truck? Oh, it was delayed at a weigh station. Once again, no call, no communication. Driver finally arrives around 1:30 and unloads truck. Once i'm unpacking I discover of course they lost a few items, including (Wait for it) the Plugs to my TV's. WHO SEPARATES THE PLUGS??? Ridiculous. Worst company of ANY kind i've ever dealt with. I spoke to customer service who was very nice and apologetic, but essentially can't do anything. Beware of this company!!! Read all reviews on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau before ever considering using Colonial Van Lines. My order # was 771373 and I hired Colonial to move me from Knoxville, Tennessee to Henderson, Nevada. Short story, my furniture was moved from a storage unit in Knoxville back to the same storage unit in Knoxville 3 weeks later for $9,325. Colonial begins their deceptive practices by making you believe they are a mover, which they are not. Colonial is a broker, not a mover. They contract with other parties (which you have no decision in who those people are). They are not up front and honest and tell you that they are a broker and will not be doing your move. They have one goal and one goal only, getting your non-refundable deposit, which amounts to roughly half the move amount, which in my case was over $4000. They then hire a sub contractor, who in my case, hired another sub contractor who is responsible for getting your cross country move done for the other half of the money while colonial takes their half to call and check in every few days and tell you you will not be getting your furniture anytime soon. The two gentlemen who picked up my furniture said that Colonial rips off its clients with huge deposits and then under pays the actual movers who are forced to take other jobs along with your job in order to make their trip across the country profitable. My furniture was picked up Monday March 9 in Knoxville. I won't waste my time here discussing the price fluctuations due to Colonial not sending a person to personally see what it is they are moving, which they said they would, because that is the least of the problems with this company. The actual movers told me that it was very unlikely that my furniture would make it within the window given by Colonial, which was the 14th through the 21st as they needed to find more work as they went across the country to be able to make their trip worth it financially. As expected, our window came and went on Saturday the 21st and I got a call on Monday the 23rd asking me if I was sitting down. I was told that the movers were still in New York, after they had already been with my stuff to Orlando, South Carolina and Virginia. I had been having to stay in a hotel with my wife and 2 children, risking our health and safety each day due to the Corona Virus. At this stage, I was told they did not know when I would receive my items but that they were working their way to Texas, NM and AZ and would eventually get to Henderson. Not willing to continue to risk my families safety, I left Nevada and headed towards Knoxville after asking Colonial to tell their sub contractor to leave my items in Knoxville before they departed the east coast, as they were working south to Texas. I had a family member go receive the furniture at the exact same storage unit it was picked up from and had to pay over $5000 to have the furniture left there. Again, this is $9,325 to pick up my furniture, drive it all over the East Coast for 3 weeks and drop it back at the same place it was picked up. If you use this company for a cross country move you are making one of the worst decisions you will ever make. This company is not just a horrifically poor "moving company", but just a horrible company of any kind. I have dealt with a lot of poor service in my day and rarely say anything about it on line, but this is the worst. I will be contacting the Attorney General in their State, the DOT in their state, the FMCA and the Better Business Bureau. Please, please be aware that if you use this company for any move you absolutely will regret it regardless of what manipulative tactics they use or what they tell you on the front end to get your deposit. read more

Colonial promises but does not deliver. For 2 days they could not find any day labor in Nashville to pack my goods and load the truck!! Amazingly, as a last resort, I was able to find day laborers and hired them for our move from Nashville. At the destination they found a crew that lasted 1 1/2 hours for unloading. The fact that I had to rent a motel room and pay for food 3 days longer than their estimate apparently is not their problem - they are not reimbursing me! If you are looking for a job here, DON'T DO IT. I started the job about a month ago. I was excited of course due to the weekly pay and hourly rate, but truth be told, working here is a nightmare. I was fired today with no warning at all and WITH NO PROPER REASONING. You get one week of training and when you do train, they BARELY teach you what you need to know to do your job effectively. I was working for the Claims Department; they BARELY teach you how to handle the resolution calls. They expect you to get it the same week you start calling the customer(s). They do not prepare you and due to the fact that you ARE the middle man, you take all the heat. No proper reason was given to me for being fired. I was told "you are not a right fit"; asked her (Linda) what she meant by that and she COULD NOT give me an answer as to why I was terminated. Also, IF YOU ARE A SCHOOL STUDENT looking for a job that will work with your schedule, FORGET IT! I only go to school 2x out of the week. I was told that they will have a "meeting" about it and Linda never did, but it's funny how they fired me same week I started school. Do not use them. Period. Their truck broke down on the move-out, 3 days late. Their truck broke down on the first move-in, 5 days late, and with the second load (they split up our load and didn't tell us) their truck broke down again, this time 10 days late. We had damage beyond belief, 8 pieces of furniture chipped, dented in and even busted up. Cigarette butts all over the property. They should be reported to OSHA and DOT, and should lose their trucking license. We've moved about a dozen times, worst move ever, by far. Company will offer to do nothing to make it right. read more
