Only a few times i have used the treadmills, eliptical, etc. As for the other reviews here I haven't been hit on inside or outside the building. Jeleni is awesome at zumba and the pool is nice first thing in the morning when they open. they have a lifeguard there all the time too and thats a good peace of mind. Overall this place isn't too bad as long as i get my laps and zumba in, Im happy!

This is one of the worst organizations I've ever encountered. Back in the 1950s, when I was 8, my…read moreparents paid for a swimming lesson for me. The group was too large. The instructor barked out inaudible instructions that were useless to beginners like my and my friend Robert. We also had to swim in the nude, with our parents in the bleachers--very embarrassing, The authoritarian officials held the ideology of early 20th century nudism movement, that clothes were unhealthful, and forced boys (females were barred from the Y then) to practice their dogma. As an adult, I swam laps there in the 1980s. If you forgot your membership card, even though the personnel recognized you, you'd be fined. The pool always overheated, up to 90°F, to make money from parents who brought incontinent infants into the pool. When I politely complained about the heat 1 time too often, the nasty director, Mr. Christian, suspended my membership. Men facing hard times with nowhere else to live and had to take residence in the Y received no support. Once when I arrived to swim, a resident had jumped out of a 3rd floor window, and his body was splattered across the sidewalk. I wouldn't be surprised if this hadn't been the only time. At the age of 75, I've noticed that organizations that hired helpful, responsible officials decades ago continue to do so today, and organizations infested with jerks continue in that mode decades later. I'd be stunned if things had changed since I was last there. I strongly urge you to find other venues to exercise.

Since people without power and without internet did not know about the cupcakes not many people got cupcakes. People ares starving and sick and cold and The Red Cross gives out cup cakes with the millions of dollars they got from donations. http://www.ny1.com/content/politics/ny1_political_itch/171519/ny1-blog--ny1-s-bob-hardt-reports-on-sandy-from-rockaway-beach http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/11/28/shame-on-the-red-cross-how-they-ve-failed-on-sandy-relief.html Thanks to Occupy Sandy Solar paneled trucks came into the Rockaways, http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/solar-power-watt-rockaways-article-1.1209817 I am trying my best to keep this as short as possible. There is so much to cover, the pets of Sandy, kids carnivals, and all kinds of things that Occupy Sandy is doing. But for the purposes of Yelp i will keep it short and just post the link if you want more info. http://interoccupy.net/occupysandy/ That link is good if you want to volunteer too. Here is a link to a call to action from the city. http://interoccupy.net/occupysandy/2012/12/bloombergs-stealth-visit/ Finally to donate money to Occupy Sandy because they are in Rockaway and they are doing more than just giving out cupcakes here is the link. https://www.wepay.com/donations/492531958 Yelp took down a review I did for a cancer charity and the money goes directly to the patients. Cruel and heartless as that is to the cancer patients who benefit from funds coming in, I would not be surprised if Yelp takes this down too. The Rockaways are STILL without power, heat food water medical help or shelter except for what Occupy Sandy is doing. The only mailing address listed for mailing at the occupy Sandy web site is in DC. Occupy Sandy/AfGJ Alliance for Global Justice 1247 E. St, SE Washington, DC 20003 They also created a "wedding registry" so you can donate specific items that are needed. They are doing a phenomenal job! This coming Saturday December 15th Occupy Sandy is holding a call to Action. See the web site for further information. The reason this is focused on Far Rockaway is it has been left alone and all of the celebrities and relief orgs are going to other hard hit areas. Saturday is the call to cation by the city, see the pictures I posted which are posters for the event. This is why they claim we pay taxes yet volunteers are spending all of their money and time with little to no Government help. Occupy Sandy was invited to meet president Obama. The president does not know what is going on because he was only "allowed" to fly over Rockaway. Pretty soon he will know!

They have a number of locations throughout the borough, but this Forest Hills location is among their busiest. It's been under some much needed renovation as of this summer and will hopefully be an even better facility for the community. While their mission to help enrich the greater Queens community has always been at the forefront, their work during the pandemic has been especially noble: they provided and partnered with local businesses to help distribute meals to those in need, provided aid to the homeless, and services for new immigrants. There's a lot more that they've done that I've missed, but that's just some of the ways they're doing good for all. I used to think this was like a local YMCA or children's center, but they really help individuals of all ages. In addition to childcare, they also have programs for teens and adults, and programming to help empower folks in the workforce. In addition, they have programs for after-school activities, LGBTQ youth, free English classes, and venue space for those who are looking to host for special occasions. They're always looking for new volunteers and for families / individuals in need of aid / assistance.
