I wish I could give a zero star rating. We used this funeral home back in 1994 for my father and they were amazing. Though I was young, I vividly remember the director and his kindness. Fast forward a couple of decades and we chose to use them again for my mother. It. Was. Awful. The gentleman we dealt with reminded me of a used car salesman. The "sympathy" was forced, cheap and condescending rhetoric. On the day of my mothers service, the same gentleman was in attendance. He never checked on us or asked if we needed anything, though it may have been better that he kept his distance. I don't care for phony forced condolences. When I received the guest book and all that came with it, no cards were included from the flower arrangements. There was an envelope clearly labeled but it was empty. I called to find out if they still had them as it's hard to pen thank you cards without names, but they SERIOUSLY called me a liar. I was told that they had been sent and that I had lost them. The word liar was actually used. I called over and over again in an attempt to speak to the director - more to alert him to the treatment I was receiving than to the absence of the cards but he refused to speak to me. I had to deal with his condescending, fake daughter. Several days later, I received the cards in the mail, once they had located them. I received a cheap and flimsy apology from the daughter, but when dealing with the death of a parent, being called a liar does not make one feel very good. In fact, it's heartbreaking when in that state of mind. We had a private burial for only family for my mother because we wanted our privacy. There was a woman standing there the entire time. I went and spoke to her after the service, thinking she worked for the church. I asked her for an address to send something for the deacon to. She never even insinuated that she didn't work for the church, as she should have at that point. Yep, the director's daughter. She stood there, knowing exactly how I felt about the funeral home for the entirety of my mother's service. Livid is an understatement. Now, I receive the paperwork for the insurance company from them and it shows it is supposed to be notarized. I called the insurance company and they informed me that was the funeral home's responsibility. When I called and spoke to darling Maggie - let's go ahead and throw her name in - she informed me that they didn't have the full cost yet because they didn't know what the price of the obituary was. Prettttty sure they would have known by the day of the wake (or really as a funeral home been well aware of the cost), but they essentially ignored me the entire time we were there. Thank you, Colonial Funeral Home for making one of the most devastating experiences of my life EVEN MORE devastating. Thank you for adding additional strife to a life that was already teeming with stress and devastation. You're welcome for the money. You did NOT earn it. You should be ashamed of yourselves. read more
