This was Free as part of the History Museum. Across the street. It's more of a little park area with a few artifacts in the buildings.

The original fort was torn down in the 1800s. This is a replica fort built on the same site. The cost is free to tour. Inside the fort is original antiques from the original fort. The tour is self guided with plenty of literature to read. The courtyard has a few cannons. The whole tour takes less than an hour. Kid friendly.

I also like to soak in a bit of history from wherever I am traveling and this gem is free to tour. There is a parking lot and the tour is self guided. They have plenty of artifacts, weapons, maps and all of the exhibits were well appointed. Watch your head though if you are tall because the doorways are very low. There's also a replica of a jail cell so, make sure you jump in there for the obligatory photo op! Make sure you take the staircase up to the roof of the fort because the view of the skyline is impeccable from up there. It only took us about a half hour to tour the museum so, it's a good stop for a quick history lesson if you don't have much time.

Free, free, free! Now that I have your attention with this place being free to visit, let me tell you how cool it is so you will want to visit. Walking into the attached Welcome Center, they have tons of brochures about area attractions, and they give you a brief history of the fort. Before constructing the Wallace Tunnel, they were required to do an archeological dig. During this dig, they dug up so many artifacts from where the old fort once stood, they were inspired to reconstruct it. They went to France, got copies of the blueprints (amazing they were still in existence), and reconstructed the fort at one-third the size of the original structure. Walking through the fort you see many of the artifacts on display, along with a few replicas. Of course, it tells the story of the fort and Mobile under the French, British and Spanish rule, and the role the old fort played during the wars. The French built the fort and named it Fort Conde in honor of Gen Louis II de Boubon, Prince of Conde. Under British rule, the name was changed to Fort Charlotte, in honor of the Queen. Under Spanish rule, it was called Fuerta Carlota, which is Spanish for Fort Charlotte. The Spanish handed the fort over to the Americans in 1813, and it was demolished shortly thereafter. The top of the fort, which you can walk, lends a great view of the Mobile skyline. A bonus is that it's a great way to see what's above the tunnels, if you've ever wondered. Fort Conde sits right on top of the Wallace Tunnel. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to walk around and see all there is to see. It's a great way to stretch your legs if you're driving through the area and looking to stop, or to do a little sightseeing and get a little history lesson in less than an afternoon. Did I mention, it's free?

I've loved this place since I was a kid. A very significant part ofMobile's history. Duck Boat tours, a Sunday brunch, and a cool day in Downtown Mobile.

This is a great, free, attraction in downtown Mobile, AL! Fort Conde has a walk thru museum housed within the chambers of the fort. There are hundreds of artifacts on display including the skull of a dolphin (something I had never seen) and strands of trading beads. The displays are clearly marked and offer an opportunity to learn interesting facts about the area. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes so that you can climb to the top of the fort and see the canons up close! The grounds are maintained well and there are places to sit and rest. We visited on a beautiful sunny day which I suggest, since this is an outdoor venue! Stop by the visitors center located within the fort for more information about other attractions in the area!

They are open every day except Christmas Day. It's a well done military museum experience, made more impactful by the simple fact of standing in a genuine WWII battleship (USS Alabama) and submarine (USS Drum). There is a lot at the memorial: the museum building full of aircraft and artifacts, the battleship, and the submarine, plus a few more vehicles outside. You could easily spend half the day here. Plan for 3-5 hours depending on your level of interest. I am not a military history buff, but I do like history, which "comes alive" when you are standing on the spot where something happened. So if you are even a tiny bit intrigued, just go! Wear reasonable shoes and be prepared to climb up some stairs and ladders, BUT don't let that scare you off, either. Young and old, thick and thin were enjoying the experience with us. FYI, you have to climb stairs up to a grid platform to enter the submarine from the top, and our group member with a heights phobia couldn't handle it, but he did okay everywhere else. You will learn a lot, and you will be able to imagine what the war was like for the men who lived it. My visit fueled my curiosity and prompted me to find and read every page of //World War II At Sea// by Craig L. Symonds, which basically describes every naval engagement in WWII. The USS Alabama is not mentioned by name in the book, but having climbed all over the Alabama and Drum made the harrowing naval history all the more poignant. There is plenty of parking, even for buses and RVs, and parking is $5. If parking a large vehicle (RV, camper), parking is $30 BUT includes one adult ticket (normally $18), so it's not that much more. Don't expect to eat here; we availed ourselves of the vending machine for some water at the end of our visit. I was a little bummed that the gift shop closes early.

There is a guided tour option and a self guided tour option. We had our kids with us, so we decided to guide ourselves and it was so fun. The kids learned some fun facts about our military history along with fun facts on how the vessels were used after being shored. Highly recommend making the drive from Pensacola, Gulf Shores, or any of the surrounding areas.

Parking is free, the site is very close to the freeway, the museum staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and the displays are great. We took advantage of the free museum guided tour and learned so much about the history of Mardi Gras, like the fact that the first Mardi Gras celebration held in America was in Mobile, not New Orleans. That was just for starters. The displays are excellent, too, and they change periodically. The cost is pretty reasonable and there's a great little gift shop where you'll get a free moon pie at the conclusion of your visit. I'm sure we'll be back at some point!

We listened for the first part in the large event space, but there was too big of a group to continue through the smaller rooms, so we dropped off and did the self-guided tour. I could not get the QR code to work so that I could follow along with the exhibits, but it was fine- I still enjoyed it. Some of these Mardi Gras Kings and Queens capes are just spectacular. There was one with such precise details and little embroidered hummingbirds. It was my fave. Just gorgeous. Then there were some really creepy older costumes on display too, which were duly fascinating to see. I love the old home where the museum is housed and would have enjoyed learning more history about the building itself.

Bellingrath is not among the gardens giving reciprocal admissions. After we paid, we were given a map and a brief explanation. Many of the garden paths are shady, while others are wide open. There are areas where there are lots of mosquitoes. Sunscreen and bug repellant are recommended for your visit. We enjoyed the water features, bridges, and the beautiful reflections. The so-called Asian-American garden near the end of the tour had some interesting hardscape but wasn't well maintained. The greenhouses were definitely worth a visit. There were lots of plants for sale during our visit. We didn't visit the Bellingrath Home Museum, which had an extra charge. All in all, we got some exercise and saw beautiful scenery during our visit. I'm guessing the gardens will be much nicer beginning in May. Hopefully the roses will be blooming by then.
