    * FTR #400, Review #700!!!! *…read more What are the chances of the milestone FTR and review count to coincide?!?!?!?! What to review? And why Le Tigre? 1) This isn't a fancy brasserie. 2) This is just a small neighbourhood local spot. 3) I have never had lunch here. 4) I've never had a drink here. So why the review? I ate breakfast here almost every day in Dijon. It was close to where I was staying, and I really really liked the owner. He really has such a fabulous attitude for a small local brasserie. Oh, and there is an artists' rendition of him (shaved head and all) on the menu cover! I wondered if his nickname was "The Tiger?" Hm....... The breakfast offerings were quite simple. Your choice of croissant or baguette. Both were quite good and sadly better than anything we can get in Vancouver, even though this is just a small local place that doesn't bake their own. Your choice of coffee or tea. Again nothing fancy. Pure simple honest food. The thing I like about the owner though? Even though breakfast was so simple, he was sitting behind the bar reading a cookbook! He is constantly trying to learn new techniques, and it left us wondering why we didn't visit for lunch to try his cooking - I suppose for another trip! (Perhaps after he has finished reading the book!) Another thing I like? He let's local musicians play in the brasserie many days. So you can enjoy a very casual setting, with simple pure honest food and a little bit of musical entertainment. A perfect local hole-in-the-wall - Dijon style!

He welcomed us warmly and sat us outside in the covered patio. We did one menu and added some extra dishes to share between the two of us. Seriously considered going back, but there were so many good restaurants in Dijon to try. Wow!

It was relatively obvious that they serve English-speaking consumers because they had menus in English. My friend and I had a good time here tasting wine and catching up. Majority of the dishes were pretty good but not extremely spectacular, ranging from the beef bourguignon to the soy-glazed chicken to the eggs with mashed potatoes, they all had varying degrees of seasoning and the salt wasn't too overpowering. Some of the dishes leaned towards more on the plain side in terms of flavor. The arancini tomatoes didn't have too much fresh flavor in my opinion, and that was my least favorite dish in comparison. Overall, one would have a good time if visiting Dijon, and I would recommend this establishment. It's worth noting that they had good service, which sometimes can be a hit or miss in France in general due to them not having a tipping culture.

So disappointed not to give this spot 5 stars. I was so excited when my husband told me he booked…read moreus a 2-Michelin star dinner during our stay in Dijon. He's not the biggest fan of "fine dining" but knows I've adored my experiences at Noma, Per Se, Eleven Madison Park, etc. so went above and beyond to secure this booking for us. The food was five stars. I was especially blown away by their chicken course in the tasting menu. I typically avoid ordering poultry while dining out (I cook A LOT of chicken at home lol) but this was the best take on chicken I've ever had. It was incredibly flavorful and unique. The service left a lot to be desired. In my experience, even when dining at a one-Michelin star spot such as Gramercy Tavern, I feel special and taken care of. This was not the case here. There wasn't a wine pairing offered with the tasting menu, so we asked the sommelier about getting wines by the glass to match the courses. He promptly told us that wasn't necessary and that red wine was fine for the entire meal. We obliged and followed his recommendation for an (admittedly tasty) bottle of red. While we enjoyed it, we didn't really care for having red wine during our vegetable and fish courses. We also noticed almost every other table enjoying an assortment of wines with each of their courses which confused us. Again... I don't want to lose sight that this meal was GOOD. The flavors were great and I really adored several of the courses. However, when we finished our final dessert course, we sat at our empty table for at least 45 minutes. No one came over to ask if we want a drink, water or the bill. I understand in France they try not to pressure guests to leave, so we were being patient. Eventually my husband was able to flag down one of our servers to ask for the check. It took almost a half hour for him to bring it out. In that time, a table in the restaurant was playing YouTube videos (or maybe TikTok..? haha) at full volume for the entire restaurant to hear. Not really earning those two stars with that kind of service and ambiance. When we left, we saw our server in the front of the building socializing with some folks and on his phone. We had chalked up his nonchalance to being busy with other tables but it stunk to see he just couldn't be bothered. It especially stinks when paying 500 bucks for a meal for two.. *shrug*
