I called to rent a pontoon boat for my hubby's birthday. The weekends were fully booked but I was able to get the day of his birthday which was a Monday. The weather was great and a party of 9 turned into a party of 6 which was the perfect size for the 10-passenger pontoon boat so i was happy. I had 2 small pans of food catered which was a bad idea bc there's really no table space that can fit or hold it. With the wind from the boat moving the kids kept flying off so if I ever do it again Tupperware for sure But overall a really great experience! We had a cooler full of drinks, snacks and the guys had cigars. After learning to drive the boat you're totally on your own but the length of time you get to keep it is phenomenal. As part of a bachelor/bachelorette activity, we got a group of 12 people to rent a Pontoon boat for a friend. We had a blast! It was the perfect day for it and we had the boat from 10am up until 5pm on Saturday (about 7 hours). It was approximately $375 for the 7 hour rental which came to be approximate $35 per person. For the pontoon boats, you do not need an active boating license to operate one and they are fairly easy to control. We had fun exploring the various canals and the Niagara River! I'd highly recommend it. The boats are comfortable and the interior is quite nice with some nice seating. There's a little 60hp engine on it and while you never really exceed 15-20mph, it's fast enough for getting around. Collins Marine is a great place to look at if you want to rent a private boat for yourself and some friends on a weekend. I thought the price was reasonable and definitely not super expensive if you're splitting with a group of 12 people. You're free to BYOB+food and the boat was even equipped with a radio and sound system. Fun times on the water! read more

We had a great day on the pontoon boat. We had the one with 150 horsepower. It went a lot faster than expected, we were able to go about 20 which is fast for a pontoon boat. We had 12 people on and all fit but I think 10 may be the magic number with all the coolers we brought etc. The only gripe was a 50 dollar charge for some crumbled chips and mud from the anchor, seems like a cash grab for something you can hose down in 1 minute. But a great idea for a bday or special occasion. read more

-5 stars because the service at Collins Marine is so horrible. They do not understand what service means ,and they clearly do not know what they are doing or how to fix boats. We had a tune-up and a carburetor rebuild, and new gas. That took them 8 weeks, with empty promises and almost an attempt to give them bribe $ to do their job. Do not deal with them for service, or slip your boat. As their office cannot manage either. They have boats parked in the wrong slip and then moved our boat even though we were in the correct slip. The worst company I've dealt with in many years. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY OF YOUR BOATING NEEDS!!!!!! read more

Don't waste your money renting from this place. Staff will find ANY problem they can (even lie about damage) to charge more money. Apparently our prop was "damaged" but i found it very odd that the staff member had a brand new one in hand prior to even saying we "damaged" the one that was already on the boat. The boat itself was not very well maintained. LOTS of outside damage on the boat. Could have been much cleaner as well. read more

SAFETY ISSUES- FAULTY RENTAL EQUIPMENT, CUSTOMERS AT MAJOR RISK I utilized Collins Marine pontoon boat rental service for the first time in early Sept '16 for a family outing on the Niagara river/Erie canal with myself and 10 passengers (Advertised limit on pontoon boat is 12ppl.) Upon arrival, I was bombarded by insinuating questions/comments by two separate employees surrounding my experience operating boats. I understand the need to do this while in the business of renting boats to complete strangers; but a tactful line of questions would have been much less insulting. I made an attempt to explain to both employees that I have 10+ years of boating experience on lake erie & the Niagara river and own my own 21' cuddy cabin; but no immediate access to a vessel that is rated for use with 12 ppl on board. As this was a family event, it made sense to rent a boat that we could all enjoy together for the day. I even made an attempt to show the employees my boater safety course certification card but didn't appear to make a difference to them. I did a walk-around the rental boat with one of the employees to find that the boat was in rough shape. The employee took pictures/videos of all the damage around the exterior of the boat for damage liability purposes. I was given a quick 10 min run-down of boat operation and location of safety supplies prior to leaving the dock. Upon leaving the dock and heading downriver towards the erie canal entrance, it was apparent that little to no maintenance had been done for some time on the rental boat. A laundry list of maintenance issues were found within the first hour on the boat. The steering wheel cables/linkage was so corroded that it was nearly impossible to steer; this lack of maintenance also made the steering system very susceptible to on-the-water failure. Noticed that this particular boat had a "spun prop" as well. When near full throttle you could feel the prop spin on the hub and the boat ultimately lose power. This created a need for delicate throttle usage when above half throttle so as to not catastrophically fail the propeller hub. A less experienced boater would have most likely NOT recognized this issue and could have potentially lost all engine power in the mighty upper Niagara River; a situation even the most experienced of boaters fear. Other maintenance issues included table & seating fasteners so lose that they had become tripping and laceration hazards, overall cleanliness, and missing bumper/rubrail systems for less docking risk. As all of these issues were discovered while on the water, myself and my family made our best attempt to make the most out of a bad situation. Upon return to the dock I was ready to discuss the maintenance issues with the employees in hopes of preventing any safety issues with future customers. To my surprise, the employee seemed to have little to no concern with the maintenance issues I brought up. He instead proceeded to attempt to place blame upon myself for some damage to the exterior of the boat, which I argued was pre-existing. The employee was very adamant that my party created the damage to the boat until I asked him to review the pictures from before leaving the dock with me. We both came to the conclusion that the damage was pre-existing based on the picture/video documentation. The level of frustration with the rental as a whole was perpetuated by the employee attempting to place blame for damages. The whole experience was very disappointing and the operation seems to be very unethical. I would advise that action be taken to prevent the possibility of catastrophic failure of one of these rental boats while in use by unsuspecting customers in the Niagara River. I even went as far to make (3) attempts to contact the owner, Robert Copeland, over a span of 2 weeks in hopes of coming to a peaceful resolution. There has been no attempt to return any of my calls. read more

Deck hand professional knowledgeable and all around kind person. Renting the pontoon was as easy as renting a car. We went out on the water for three hours. Swung back to the dock to pick up my eldrey mother who arrived there and timed it so she would only be on the boat for the last 3 hours. He was so sweet to her. We got back on the pontoon and enjoyed the rest of our time. It was a great rental and in perfect condition. It was very clean. After we had our sandwichs snacks and crumbs started mixing with water on the floor I used a bucked of water from our melted ice chest and we all cleaned everything. When we returned it it looked the same way as when we picked it up. I loved jumping in the water with my son. He thought it was the coolest thing and had never done that before. I swam in high school and swim for exercise but know that him and I neededto wear our life jackets. The current is so strong it makes you think you will be swept to the falls. Lol. The ropes on the front of the boat came in handy. we swam and played with a volleyball but when you get tired of fighting the current you can hang on the ropes. Be aware when the large boats zoom by they create a large wave. My brother successfully road the pontoon over every wave. I love him so much and trust him with my life and my son's life but dang those waves scared me for a split second. Everyone on the pontoon would stay quiet when it would happen. It was a bit erie but we all trust him. Lovley day back in my old stomping grounds. Happy my son is getting to see it but sad when we have to go. Oh well i will be back next year. Wow i was a litlle emotional on this one. Sorry about that. lol read more

Had such a great start to my Fourth of July at Collins Marine. The girl who helped us wasn't the greatest and was fairly rude but we all pushed it aside. We were supposed to go out at 10:15 and didn't end up leaving until 10:45. As we left the dock and asked about the late policy the blonde haired haired told us not to be late because she had plans later in the day (which we all thought was very unprofessional) . We continued on with our way and headed out to grass island and had a fantastic time despite with happened earlier in the day. As we came back we were accused of cracking a table that was already bent when we left the docks (which now I wish I took a picture of to show them) and we treated with such disrespect by two employees. One being the blonde hair girl that made a comment previously In the day and a red hair kid who told us to leave. If it was not for these employees I would have had a fantastic Fourth of July. I would make anyone that considers going here highly reconsider because of these two employees (Terrible, rude!!). Collins Marine was great! Gas dock attendees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about our boat and the area. They had life jackets ready for us and even had children sizes. We took the boat down the Erie Canal (so peaceful) and even spent some time at Grass Island where we met other boaters. Our kids liked Grass Island because they could stand in the soft sand due to the shallow waters. At the end of our rental we returned to the gas dock at Collins and topped off the tank. only around $30!! Great day! Can't to go again this season! read more

I have had couple experiences there for parts. Way over priced and both times, told me one price then charged me another when I picked up the parts. Can't just leave cause boating season is short and when you need parts , you need parts. Won't see me in there again. There is a reason this place is 2 stars!! read more

From my experiences over the last 4 years, the service at Collins is extremely poor. I had them do some bottom painting 2 years ago and it has not been right yet. Sections have either flaked off or simply washed off within weeks of the work being done. I brought it to their attention last October and they assured me it would be re-done at the beginning of this season (April). After 3 broken promises on when it would be repaired and 4 months of waiting, they assured me it was scheduled for last week. Well, it is still not done and their reasoning was, "Things come up, we are busy, and it isn't a priority to them like it is to me." I think giving them 4 months to do a simple job is more than enough time. Almost everyone on my dock rents a slip there because of the location, but no one I speak to has anything good to say about the service department or the level of customer service they provide. Many take their boats elsewhere for service and storage. I would NEVER do business with them again and will find a new marina to dock my boat next season. Before you consider going there, I would walk the docks and ask for input from other boat owners. I am positive you will here many stories of poor service similar to mine. read more
