It was in Nursery School where the teachers brought to my attention that my younger son Aidan…read moreneeded support in school. Once he started elementary school, his kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Chavez mentioned that he needed additional support. At that time, they did not know what the issues were. My thoughts were that he was too young for the grade but having a twin sister and she was advanced, I could not hold him back one year. My son struggled in school until I met Shannon Mulligan, owner of Marin Tutors. From the very beginning that I asked for help, Shannon took the time to provide the support that my son needed always paring him with excellent tutors that were compatible with my son's personality and their teaching techniques were always easy for my son to understand those math equations. Marin Tutors were common to see them at home, once or twice a week, every time that I came from work. From elementary school, up to his Senior year. Aidan recently graduated from San Rafael High School, Class 21, and he was accepted at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. In August, my husband Bradd, Aidan, and I drove to Las Vegas to settle him at the dorms of UNLV. It took us a few days to help him settle in his new stage in life, College. While we were helping to settle Aidan in his dorm, he expressed his excitement about his new college life, and he shared with us: "I can't believe that I am here right now, it is pretty exciting"... That really touched me, because automatically I went back in time, to those moments where he was filled with frustration for not being able to understand his math problems, all those moments that he felt "something was wrong with him" and being rescued by all those hours of tutoring with Marin Tutors. The truth is, that he is where he is right now, at UNLV thanks to Marin Tutors. He could not do it, or I could not help him (the math of nowadays is not my strength) without the help and support of Shannon Mulligan and all her excellent tutors that spent time with my son, one on one. To Shannon Mulligan, Marin Tutors, and all those college students that joined Marin Tutors thru the school years of my son, thank you for all your time, dedication, passion, patience, and knowledge. Thank you for all you contributed to helping my son Aidan. We would always be so grateful about it, and you would always be a part of my son. I guarantee you that!... Marin Tutors and Shannon Mulligan are simply the best! -Mirsonia

My 16 Yo and I learned about Marin Test Prep at an MTP planning seminar (see website for free…read morevideo). We spoke with the presenter before and after the event, and my child immediately embraced the idea of MTP as a partner. The SAT/ACT test is a critical factor in the Univ. admissions evaluation. In order to optimize test prep, it is crucial that the test taker engage and commit to giving it a best effort and follow the program (including the incremental work which is mostly just taking actual test sections and reviewing the results with the MTP partner). We were fortunate enough to be able to work with Adam, who quickly helped my child realize that we would probably score better on the "Old" SAT, and mentioned that we could still take the "Old" SAT (something we never heard before) My child took an ACT practice test at Marin Test Prep (free 4-hour proctored test) and an SAT (Old) practice test to confirm which test worked best. Adam developed a customized study and test prep process and with a weekly 1.5 hr study session and follow up practice tests at home, I am certain that the score on the initial SAT will be significantly higher than it would have without MTP's help. Thanks to Adam's insight about the "Old" SAT, we also have a chance to re-take the test if needed. Working with Marin Test Prep has increased self confidence and decreased stress and anxiety about the test. By the time the results of our high school PSAT are available, we will have taken a practice SAT, practice ACT and 1 (or two if needed) SAT tests (w/in 3 mos) Marin test Prep offers some great advantages for students: The tips and tricks that always boost scores Understanding of the test "flows"; if you understand the test design you will score higher An evaluation of test preferences (SAT vs. ACT) with customized prep process and an Individualized 1:1 test prep support (which was an important aspect in our case) It sounds like the other reviewer might have wanted a group session, and had challenges getting the test takers committed and aligned with the process. In order to optimize your benefit from such a partner, the prospective test taker needs to embrace the process. In our case, the partnership has significantly reduced stress and anxiety, increased self confidence and will result in a higher test score. All in all, this was a great investment to prepare for the SAT and one which offered scholarly insights that will be leveraged in the future.

Those years were…read moreextremely formative for me, but unfortunately were not positive - in fact I remember them today as being the worst years of my life. The academics at MHS may have been good, but were rendered irrelevant by the brutal, ceaseless bullying I experienced, the scars of which haunt me to this day. I have memories of horrible things my classmates did to me while the faculty and administration stood by and did nothing. It pains me to think that my parents spent so much money for me to be treated so poorly, and even today I wonder how I made it through those years of misery and came out the other side. What most impressed me was how close the teachers, staff and administrators got to know her, and the dedicated coaching she received in every single class. This struck me reading the narrative from each teacher in the first report cards. It was clear they knew my daughter deeply and had worked closely with her to develop her strengths and push her in the areas she needed to grow. The school community was incredibly warm and welcoming, she had many new friends within days of joining the school and felt as if she had been there for years. This was clearly intentional, MHS focuses on fostering a sense of belonging, bonding with teachers, character building and strong academics. I highly recommend MHS and can see why they have been voted 'Best Private School in Marin' for many years. It is indeed the best!

In just a few months working with Alex, my son started pronouncing the "L" well, with no protrusion. Now he can pronounce all the sounds. Alex also arranged for my son to make a Stuttering Presentation in front of the other kids at school. That was a great initiative, because my son was so proud and excited to do it (actually talked very smoothly during the presentation), and because the other kids were able to understand more about stuttering, what it feels like, try to do it, thus getting a better understanding of the problem and the kids with stuttering issues.
