My son was at Colibri for just 6 months before we moved out of the area, and the Montessori approach helped him blossom. Coming from a daycare setting with very few rules, I worried that he would have a hard time acclimating to preschool, especially in Spanish immersion given his limited exposure to the language before attending Colibri. From day one, he excelled in the home setting, quickly picking up the new language and growing independently. The mixed age small group fostered friendships with 5 year olds who were able to be a good example for behavior while teaching him make believe play, expanded vocabulary, and even a bit of patience.
The teachers are exceptional. Miss Pilar has a gentle demeanor that the children respect - never needing to raise her voice to command attention from the room. She is creative and always exploring new perspectives that can teach the children through experience. For example, the kids planted and harvested their own vegetables, visited a nursery to see the variety of plants that exist, and were able to learn about spring and seasons through practical applications.
It's been a few weeks since we moved to the suburbs and my son still talks about his friends at the "house school," he uses Spanish with his new teachers, proudly performs the dances they learned together, and as he falls asleep at night, I hear him singing songs to himself in Spanish. My only regret about Colibri is that we weren't able to stay longer. Jump at the opportunity to send your kids to this amazing school. read more
