They do what Aldi want them to do best, be courteous and efficient. Get those people through that long line of check out. Get those crates moved pronto. I love this Aldi because the staff there are friendly and whilst they don't chit chat will tell you and ask you how your day has been. They are pretty good at hunting down things for you, and let me tell you when the new stuff comes out on Wednesdays and Saturdays there is like a swamp of desperate people waiting to pick up the latest bargain. I'm one of them. You can get a Jack n Jill branded Train Table set (almost an exact replica of the Fisher Price one) made with quality wood for $60. The other brands go for over $100 easily. You can get really cool stuff for yourself, the kids, there is always something well-priced here. The Mamia branded nappies are cheaper and even better than Huggies. They don't leak through, just form a heavy gel that sits in the nappy until it sags so much you realise you have to change it. 9-14kg Toddler ones go for $13/pack... that's cheap! And when you're done crowding around the middle section where the bargains are, you can get some damn fine salmon to grill for dinner.

Milton Fruit Bowl is the best place to buy fruit on the west side in my opinion. Although my…read morefavourite Brisbane fruit and veg shop is All About Fruit at New Farm, Milton Fruit Bowl is a very close second and if I'm over this side of town it does just nicely. I find that their selection and quality of tomatoes exceeds everywhere else including All About Fruit. Their prices are more than you would pay for fruit and veg in a supermarket, but the freshness, quality, and variety is far, far better. Their fruit is actually ripe and tasty, unlike a lot of the tasteless, hard-as-rocks fruit you find elsewhere. As well as fruit and veg, Milton Fruit Bowl sells lots of nibbles like dried fruit, nuts, lentils, and confectionery and they often have some really lovely looking flowers at bargain prices. It's very handy having the Milton Fruit Bowl in this shopping strip because right next door is a deli and a butcher and there's also an IGA so if you need ingredients for a dinner party or something, you have everything you need in one centre. Milton Fruit Bowl has been around since the late 80s and even now is something of an undiscovered gem. You never see it packed full of people the way you do at Rock'n'Roll on the south side or James Street Markets, yet the quality is better and the prices similar or even lower. Make sure you get a piece of the wonderful fresh produce in this Fruit Bowl.

It's like they tag team eachother, and add in the butcher and Tognini's deli goods, and you're set. You need not go anywhere else for your fresh produce. There's a level of #smugtrolley that comes from shopping at a spot like Milton Fruit Bowl but from that level of virtuosity comes the knowledge you're supporting a family-operated local business and that, in my experience, the quality of produce was always at the highest. Yes, I probably paid for it but they always, for example, came through on more specialty items that may not be as easily able to purchase from the supermarkets. A great local spot to keep up your sleeve! Pro Tip: Often you can purchase olive trees, fruit plants and herbs from the front of the store.

There are tables on the sidewalk but also inside the cafe. The place has a great casual feel and the staff are friendly. The menu is small and well priced in this competitive cafe strip in Wilston. Thankfully, they came through with the goods but given their range of gourmet items, deli meats, fresh produce and cheese I was also now at the mercy of so much more than my hunt for buckwheat flour. No, I don't know how I also managed to buy moroccan spiced broad beans. Fresh Sensations, located near Coles in the bottom floor of Carindale Shopping centre, looks schmick and offers just as schmick looking products. If you're local and need a place to buy quality and niche food items this would be my pick.

By far the cleanest and grooviest cafe on ipswich rd, I was first tempted in by the delicious food aromas wafting down the street. Part coffee shop part vintage collectable paradise this sweet little spot emits a lovely glow of vintage charm. And while the coffee is a bit average the food ain't half bad. I recommend scrutinizing their delizioso toasties (Mozzarella and prosciutto omnomnom.) and the veritable selection of cake and cookies. The place gets understandably packed for breakfasts but is well worth a visit when out and about in Annerley.

It's true that there are probably only two places to get a good cuppa in Annerley; Dudley Street Espresso is one of them. Being a cafe that sells collectables on the side, it fits into that stretch of Ipswich Road just nicely, with it's antique stores and it's op shops. It's a busy cafe, on a busy stretch of road, so you can expect it to be noisy. The coffee is creamy and strong. The food is worth a mention- try one of their sandwiches. They're yum, and very affordable. I probably come here more for the food than the coffee to be honest (nothing beats a good sanga). Go sit down at long table that runs down the middle of the space, or sit in the window and people watch, or...car watch, as it does look out onto bustling Ipswich Road. The collectables are cute, but I always get the feeling they are more ornamental, an actual part of the shop, rather than goods to be sold. Maybe you'll feel differently and find yourself a nice treat to take home with you. The choice is yours.

They have actual lamb, chicken and pork, not that god awful mince stuff. We're not talking something you choke down when too drunk to make better decisions, this is worth travelling for. You might want to spend some time on the ugly ducklings and the underdogs because you might surprise yourself- in a good way. Darra is known for its Asian grocery stores, authentic Viet/Chinese restaurants, but this fresh food market in Darra has got to be one of the best here. It may look a bit run down from the outset, but definitely not compromised in terms of stock. The fruit are all good quality but they are not the most good looking. Some are oddly shaped, mismatched and with slight grazes, but still very tasty. In fact, there was a fruit picker who once told me that, big super market chains prefer to pick really traditionally good looking fruit, but it may not necessarily product the best taste. Whereas, small grocers like this are happy to sell on the odd looking ones with good rich flavour at a fraction of the cost. I would urge you all to give these little guys a chance, it's worth it. K & K Fresh Food Market don't just sell fresh fruit and veg produce, they also have an extensive range of Asian canned and packet goods inside the store. You will find a massive range in noodles from thin rice noodles to thick egg noodles, a variety of rice and packeted frozen meats. There is plenty of Asian cooking oil, sauces, seasonings, spices and more to be found here at considerably low prices to that in Woolies or Coles. If you are planning on making an Asian dish, I would highly recommend going to this ethnic grocer, K & K's, as opposed to a bit chain supermarket, so you can get the most authentic flavours at a fraction of the cost. I would also like to add, that this place is quite busy on weekends particularly on a Sunday where there is often a rush of people after mass investing in their weekly household goods.
