But now that I'm a local in the Caulfield area, it's become number one in my books. The couple that own it are really nice and do a great job getting to know their customers. It's like going to a family run store knowing you'll get top notch service every time. The couple are really good with recommendations too so if you're torn between brands, they can advise you which might be better for the dish you're preparing. Like all Asian grocery stores, you can find everything to do with Asian cooking here and some more rare ingredients like Laksa leaf (needed for curry laksa) and durian (frozen). They also sell a range of nyonya kueh (Asian desserts) and on some days you can get yu tiao (fried dough sticks) for porridge.

ORGANIC OUT YOUR EARS!…read more I kinda agree with the other 2 reviewers and their commentary. I wish that I could afford to have loaded up the pantry with all of these goodies sold here. Actually, my brother probably wouldn't eat it anyway, and it'd be a moot point, because I couldn't afford that store. I walked up/down, up/down, imagining the things that I would purchase, and what i would put together with what, and how it would be served. The displays are nice and their inventory does make one want to be as healthful as possible. So instead, off to Foodworks I went, just a bit deeper into the Village.

Might want to get in there earlier in the day if you want a larger variety in the meat section as it seems to shift fairly quickly, Same goes for the fresh bread/baguettes they have in the back near the deli (the ones on the clear cupboard) but the bread in those is amazing and the 6 pack bags of turkish rolls are fantastic and a decent price for a quality!. There is a ton of variety if you are a fan of gluten free or alternative foods/health options as they seems to have more of that than other stuff., Sadly their deli is a bit lacking but that's mainly because it isn't as big as most supermarkets but they will gladly slice meats for you fresh as long as you get there before 7pm..as the sign says they use cleaning fluid on it around that time and can't use it afterwards.

Okay, maybe that's stretching the truth a little... but my sister who has lived here for years recollects what an inconvenience it was not having this precious little deli down the road. And when Bambra Deli finally reopened, loyal customers swamped the place like bees to honey. I recall my own excitement as I passed by and saw the lights on inside. Instinctively, I parked the car and headed in to grab some fresh bread, homemade tuna salad spread, egg salad spread and a jar of pickled purple cabbage. The great thing about this little gem of a find, is even though it stocks all the regular essentials like bread, milk and juice, it also carries a fine selection of gourmet style produce. Perfect for those who love the (small) finer things in life.

Supermarkets are big and sometimes when you can't find something, you need to swallow your pride and ask for it. Do the staff give you shit, or are they actually helpful? This particular Coles hits 2/3. It's located just at the Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre, so you could do a bit if shopping after a film, quick browse at IKEA, whatever floats your boat. It's relatively clean and spacious with a wide selection inside as well. The only mark that Coles doesn't hit is the customer service. I've experienced a lot of staff members that stare blankly like deer caught in headlights whenever I ask them a question. Convenient and moderately priced! Just try to avoid asking anyone for anything.

The first few times I came here I thought they were rather pricey compared to my local fresh produce shop, but a recent visit has led me to change my mind. La Manna had lots of good deals going, and I managed to find tarragon there, which I hadn't found in other stores in the neighbourhood. I don't know if I just never get the nice, smiley staff member at the cash register, or if none of them smile or make an attempt to be friendly, but that's just how it goes in La Manna. It would be nice if they were nicer to me, but if it were that easy for everyone to be nicer to each other, there would probably be less fighting in the world. How on earth did I go from fruit and veg to more peace and love in the world please? I think it's time for afternoon tea break.

La Manna is just a short walk away and is an absolutely gem of a local grocer. You know the ones - quinoa, freekah, sunflower seeds and anything green... You probably think all Coles supermarkets are pretty much the same. I understand how you could…read morethink that too, if you haven't been to Coles in Flemington. As I type this, Coles Flemington is less than a year old. It's what Coles refers to as a 'new look' supermarket with a different layout, range and service system than the others. If you've ever lived in the UK, it's more like a big Sainsbury's than what we've come to expect of Coles in Australia. The store really has everything you could kind of want for your everyday grocery shopping. There's even a fishmonger and butcher inside. I love their huge range of gluten free products (on which you get a 20% discount if you belong to the coeliac society) and that they use rainwater to clean because of the size of the roof. They also have skylights in the ceiling to reduce the amount of energy used lighting the place. Bottom line: if you have to shop at Coles, this is the one to do it at.

Situated next to the Flemington Showgrounds, the site itself is huge. Coles is the main tenant, and takes up probably 90% of the total floor space. The huge amount of space has allowed them to put in a fish station, butchery section, and a gourmet section (which I find ridiculous). Fruits and vegetables are very well laid out, with multiple long rows. The fish station is set up to replicate a market stall, but it doesn't quite get there yet. What is impressive is that there are whole fish on offer, with several types past the usual basa and barramundi. Despite having whole fish, most of the other seafood is still frozen and from overseas, like fish from Thailand and prawns from China. I find it disappointing, but I have to remind myself this is a supermarket after all. The deli section is about normal size for a Coles supermarket. I would have preferred more choice, but standard fare is offered. The cheese section is impressive, with a wide range of hard and soft cheeses. There is also a bakery section, with fresh bread and biscuits and croissants. I think this is a welcome addition to supermarkets, especially for people who are time poor to visit artisan bakers but want something different from the usual white bread fare. The rest of the supermarket is well laid out, but I got the feeling that they had so much space they didn't really know what to do with it. Six or seven rows of a single product is a bit much don't you think? As a supermarket, there is none better. I use this Coles as a benchmark against other supermarkets. Even Barkly Square doesn't come close. My only gripe is why can't they stock Spreyton Fresh apple juice? It's the best apple juice out there...and they used to stock it until recently.
