Not…read moreknowing a lot about the health insurance world I chose a plan that had a decent yearly individual deductible. My plan is almost $400 a month. Having just moved to Ohio I needed a new Doctor for mental health purposes. The young lady that answered the phone could not have made me feel more like I had the plague once I mentioned I had Molina Health insurance, she indicated this was Medicaid and they don't take Medicaid. I said, I don't have Medicaid, I pay out of pocket every month for my insurance. Very degradingly she said "Molina is considered Medicaid" we do not take it". Oooof the anxiety the response gave me. So I asked if I could be a self pay patient, as I just need to see a doctor to get my mental health under control. She said we can't do self pay if you have Medicaid. I said I don't have Medicaid I have Molina. LordT if I could have only known that I would be treated like a leper I would have never mentioned my insurance plan. I really wish people were nicer in the office and realize that there are REAL people suffering from mental health problems. Being kind really goes a long way, you never know how your tone or inflection can trigger someone's mental health.

Doctor McLaughlin instantly put me at ease when I met him at an inpatient unit. Whenever I have a question or concern, he gets right back to me - usually the same day! He will take the time to listen to me, and make sure he understands what I'm saying. Then he also gives me info, and makes sure I understand the plan. I very much appreciate the fact that he works with me. If I feel something isn't right with my meds, he'll let me experiment within a range and let him know what works. He won't just write a script because I ask, but if he believes it's appropriate he'll do it. He even takes the time to get to know me personally; when I go for a follow-up (sometimes several months later) he will ask me about stuff that I told him I was going to do. He remembers my interests, and treats me like a person, not just a mental disorder.

Within a week, they had me run through a battery of tests and scheduled for surgery. Surgical staff was/is amazing. The check in process is very slick and efficient. Everyone, and I mean everyone is extremely friendly and engaging. You never feel alone, you feel like you are a friend and they are going to take care of you. That is probably the best way to explain. I had a few days of recovery. The Nursing staff was really incredible. They have a great process. As they rotate, they introduce themselves and get to know you. I think they work on the mind and soul as much as the body. My chemo and all follow-ups were in the same location. So it is a one stop shop. All labs and follow-up at the same place. I work in Beechwood and have one of the more modern hospitals available, but I would still go to Portage. It is not the most fancy, but as fare as staff and care goes, I don't honestly think you will find better.

My healing journey was a dire situation and when I decided to seek help finally, it was a TOTAL disaster for two whole years until I found Alleviant last July. I had done the new patient process at many different behavioral health operations all over Summit County. It is sad to say, but only one of the dozens I completed an assessment intake with mentioned trauma to me - and looking back at those times, I was LITERALLY the poster gal for complex PTSD. This is a widespread concern I've found out, and it's a serious problem in the system here. The lack of trauma education and acknowledgment by mental health professionals ultimately results in patients believing, once again, that THEY are the problem. So opposite of what should happen. I hope PTSD-informed care awareness becomes a priority for the sake of all those suffering. Luckily, Alleviant has embraced this neglected concept. For example, every Tuesday evening there is a women's trauma support group run by my clinician, Sarah. Sarah is a big deal in the behavioral health community around here- and has been my inspiration to turn things around. The entire Alleviant crew has been so kind and accommodating to my particular issues. They really want to see their patients heal, which is proven by their actions and the energy there in general. I could go on and on about how unique Alleviant is but it's more important anyone reading this takes that courageous step and gives them a call. I have tried all their services - ketamine infusions, psychiatry, and TMS; in addition to weekly counseling and EMDR sessions (intensive treatment for PTSD). The ketamine acted as a huge reset button on the mind, body, and spirit - no matter how lost you may feel, you CAN be brought back. The TMS treatments (completed 6 out of 38 so far) are slowly decreasing my long-term medication resistant depression. What a truly remarkable and exciting thing! Will update when I am further along with the EMDR sessions. If you feel like giving up, give it another gander because the grass IS greener with a stable, healthy mind. Alleviant has saved my life!
