Really more of a deli than a store, but I love the Colebrook Store's charm. Only stopped for a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich for my wife (she was starving after apple-picking at nearby Riiska Brook Orchard). Breakfast sandwich was excellent, tasty & loaded with meat. We intend to come back in the near future to try some of their other sandwiches. The Colebrook Store seems like they do a brisk business out in the middle of nowhere -- I spotted vehicles from four different states while there. We'll be back. read more

How cool is the Colebrook Store? It dates to 1812 and Is the oldest continuously operating general store in Connecticut. No wonder it's listed in the National Register of Historic Places. They sell fresh made-to-order breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They serve breakfast and lunch (including, soups, chili, salads, etc.) all day. They sell groceries and beverages plus a very tempting variety of baked treats (eclairs being a specialty!). We picked up two sandwiches to bring along to our afternoon visit to the Norbrook Farm Brewery, and what awesome sandwiches they were! My $5.95 Roast Beef Sandwich boasted ¼ pound of meat on my choice of bread (I went with multi-grain rye), a choice of cheese (Pepper Jack), and my choice of freebie veggies to crunch things up (I gluttoned things up and went for lettuce, tomato, hot peppers, onions, peppers and pickles). The result was one fantastic sandwich that was a terrific value! We perused the gift store and scooped up a hard to find 4-Pack of Stewart's Diet Orange Soda, and we split one of their famous eclairs later that day. Eclairs are only sold on weekends or by special order. Yes, it was delicious. Finding the Colebrook Store was another reason that I love Yelp. It's off the beaten path and a distance from Route 8, so unless you are specifically headed there, it's unlikely you would ever find it. But we sure were glad we learned about it and were even more glad we shopped there. It really is a treasure. read more

If you want to get off the grid for a sandwich, the Colebrook Store is the place for you. It's nestled into the Connecticut hills, which makes it a pretty drive in the fall (and at other times of the year, if you enjoy green leaves). This is our favorite breakfast place in Connecticut (at least now that the Winsted Diner is just a memory). The breakfast sandwiches (egg and cheese) and home fries are superb. I believe they make their own bread, and a glorious thing it is. read more

Dann (the owner/operator) is a genuinely good dude that makes some amazing eclairs, pastries and homemade goodies. Soups kick ass and the Apple fritters heated up will change your life.....and if I didn't mention, the eclairs run close to 1LB EACH and have real homemade filling and chocolate frosting! 228 year old store, amazing recipes and hospitality, check em out! read more

I love the Colebrook store! Last two times we went for lunch, the wait time was at least a half an hour, for two breakfast sandwiches. They were delicious once they arrived. Unfortunately my sandwich came first and I was almost finished by the time my friend was served. Meals should always be served at the same time! Same thing yesterday. My sandwich was served first. A bit light on the chicken salad, considering the price. My soup was served cold. I finished my sandwich. We waited and waited. Finally, we asked for it to go. They didn't even know about it. Finally, that was ready and packed to go. But no chips. Why not? I got chips with my sandwich. No pickle? For almost ten bucks, you can't get chips and a deli pickle? He did give him a free pastry. So much filling, you needed a fork and knife. Kinda disappointing because they are very nice people, they have a great menu and a good, convenient location. I'll still go there because I'd rather wait there than have fast food anywhere else. I'm guessing I just caught them on a few bad days. Hopefully. In the future, I wish they would serve the same table's meals, at the same time. It really is rude to eat in front of your starving friend. read more

It's unusual for me to give 5 stars based on a single visit, but I think this place deserves it. First let me thank my fellow Yelpers for pointing me to the Colebrook Store. I travel on nearby Rt 8, but would never have found this place without your help. This place is a country store in the heart of Colebrook, CT, a community of about 1400 people. I used it as a lunch stop and was glad I did. I am a pastrami fan and when I saw the pastrami reuben on the special board, it was a gimme that would be my lunch. The reuben was delicious. I was so anxious to eat this sandwich, I forgot to photograph it for this review! The place was full of friendly folks ... and that included the store staff. Service was great. Want to hear the negatives? My sandwich was just off the grill when it was delivered to our table. I had to let it cool before I could eat it. We chose an outside table to eat at. The local flies also expressed interest in my reuben. Hopefully, you didn't take either of those negatives with any seriousness. It was a great reuben. Lunch here was a great experience. read more

The Colebrook Store is a hidden gem in Colebrook, CT. We recommend the grilled cheese & bacon, the roast beef sandwich, or for that matter, anything on the menu! The interior is country style, with a booth, tables and chairs, plenty of space and imaginative old time curios around on the walls. Original tin ceiling and all wood floors, along with country store ambiance make this a MUST! Open for breakfast, lunch and early supper, the selections are great! All sandwiches served with a generous portion of chips, and it's really like "family." The store carries beverages, eggs, milk and dairy, home made muffins and baked goods. The coffee is brewed fresh and always ready. In the other room, are shelves of groceries including soup to nuts. They also have a great selection of Colebrook souvenirs, mementos and other salient items! It's fun to grab a cup of coffee and a muffin, and just relax! We have a home in Colebrook, so we're pretty much regulars now! read more

This place has AMAZING breakfast sandwiches. I have been several times for breakfast, and every time it is delicious. The pricing is very reasonable! They also have delicious homemade cookies, which are huge, and go great with the coffee. The atmosphere is also great--you can order and sit wherever you like. They'll bring out your food when its ready, and they have a big selection of drinks too. The Colebrook Store was the longest continuously operated general store in the country until a pair of incompetent owners a decade ago ran it into the ground. But late last year, 2014, it re-opened under the direction of someone who knows how to run a country store and can really cook! Over the past few months, we've had the classic BEC/bacon-egg-cheese on hard rolls, cinnamon buns, turkey sandwiches, chicken parm, homemade apple pie, and meatball grinders. Everything is homemade, including the tomato sauce. And she caters like no one else around. It's my new fave place in Litchfield County... and it's on my way to work so that makes me very very happy. And it's the perfect stop for car cruisers, motorcyclists, and cyclists enjoying NW CT on the weekend. Yum yum! read more

This is a great little local store to stop by for a sandwich, drink or snack. We stopped in this morning for made to order hot breakfast sandwiches and green mountain coffee and the staff was friendly and our eggs were yummy! We couldn't help ourselves and picked up a big homemade cookie for the road. My husband and I heard about the Colebrook Store from a friend, who highly recommended us checking it out, so we stopped by last weekend for lunch. Our food was absolutely spectacular and not too expensive, and they will make anything you'd like however you want it. Inside it is cute and quaint and everything we had expected plus some! The furniture is mismatched and there are Dominoes on the tables, the staff is super welcoming and friendly, and the place just feels like home. They make their own bread (which is absolutely delicious) and I hear that their pastries and baked goods are to die for, though they were fresh out when we arrived so I can neither confirm nor deny this fact. We will definitely be back in the near future... the Colebrook Store is the kind of feel-good place you can't help but fall in love with! read more

Nothing but good things to say. When we've been away the first place where my kids want to come back to is The Colebrook Store. Great sandwiches and friendly service. Also, it's a good pit stop when we're out of food at home. When people visit and want to take a run or walk we tell them the 2 miles to the town crossroads is perfect, with the added plus of having The Colebrook Store as a destination.
