Let me start by saying that Ski barn is probably one of the most busiest ski apparel shops in the…read moretri-state area, and there's never been a time where I visited the store and haven't had to wait a while for service when it comes to boots or skis. However, with that said, it is absolutely worth the wait. Rick Vanek is one of the best at what he does, and I always try to seek him out when I visit, however, last weekend he was occupied, so I had to put my name on the waiting list. An unassuming, younger woman by the name of Abby was readily available, and when I tell you, I probably gave her the most difficult time in assisting me because I had my mindset on what I wanted. Boy was I wrong. After guiding me, even against my will at times, she ended up giving me exactly what I needed, not what I wanted. Every boot that I tried on that I came in for ended up not being sufficient enough for my feet. She never lost patience with me, and ultimately, she put me in a boot that I would've had never chosen. The irony is these boots are the most comfortable boots that I've ever worn and they are also at the skill level of what I was seeking. Rick actually recognized me and came up to say hi as Abby was servicing me, and just smiled silently. He knew that she knew her stuff. I can't praise her enough for taking care of me thoroughly and ultimately giving me exactly what I came for. Don't let her young appearance fool you, she's more skilled at what she does than some other individuals at other shops twice her age. I've been skiing for over 26 years, and this young lady just schooled me. Abby, thank you so much for putting up with a hardheaded veteran like myself. I highly, highly recommend anyone that is looking for the proper ski boots to visit this location and ask for Rick or Abby in a heartbeat. Well done!

The good: I've been coming to Ski Barn with my family for ski rentals for a few years. The fitters…read moreare consistently great - friendly, good with kids, and know how to size boots appropriately. Despite the hectic season, the staff does well. The bad: I brought my own boots/skis in for a tune-up for this season. While I discussed what I needed with one of the men behind the counter, another guy working there came over and informed me that my skis are actually not mine; they are rentals from Ski Barn, which I never returned. I tried to explain a couple of times that I owned my boots and skis and bought them at a Ski Barn sale event a few years ago. I've also brought them to be tuned at Ski Barn each season with no issues. The guy was adamant that I was wrong and trying to service rentals, implying that I never returned a pair and was trying to pass them off as my own. Not only was he completely wrong, his tone was incredibly rude. I explained again; he doubled down. By looking at their computer system, it is easy to see my rental record, and he could quickly see that in all my years of renting, I've never rented adult skis. I only rent for my children. Why would I have an adult rental that I never rented? But he could not back down. Instead, he made insulting remarks to me, which said more about him than me. He still could not concede, so he said he was just not going to pursue it anymore. The best part is - which we found out toward the end of our altercation - it turns out his dad is the owner of Ski Barn and actually was the one who fitted me and sold me my boots and skis a few years back. So no, they are not rentals:) His dad knew how to make a sale and get a family of customers. His son just figured out how to lose us. I will complete our transaction this season, but in the future, we are going to Mt. Everest Ski Shop. ETA: After I pick up our skis, I will take them to the shop on the mountain we're going to for a quick check because I would genuinely not be surprised if this guy messed around with our equipment out of spite.

Tonight l had another great experience at Paragon thanks to the sensitivity and good nature of Mike R in the upstairs shoe and boot department. As a rule, my 88-year old husband doesn't like to buy himself new clothes. But after what feels like weeks in this polar vortex, with him stubbornly trudging and slipping through the snow in old rubber rain boots and a cane, l stopped hinting and put my foot down: we were going to buy him some warm, waterproof boots with cleats. Knowing that he might only put up with one outing, I decided to scout Paragon on my own, first. Mike R. advised me he had only one style of boot that fit what l was looking for and not many sizes left. When he came back with a size in the ballpark, l asked if he could hold it for me. Mike was blunt: he couldn't do any 24-hour holds with the stock so low, but he could hold it for two hours. I thanked him, explaining that if l bought these and presented them to my husband as a done deal he would never even try them on. But we'd be back, within the hour. When we arrived on the floor, Mike picked right up on the dynamic: this was not a customer for a hard sell. And so Mike was the soul of discretion. He kept a low profile, talking quietly and only to me and showed up just often enough to be helpful. He was patient, kind and l got the feeling he was enjoying the challenge of selling without ever even connecting with the guy trying on the boots. And Mike's strategy worked! We made the transition from my husband's original reaction to the only boots in his size ("l hate them!") to walking out with four pairs of socks and that same pair of warm, waterproof boots with cleats. I am deeply grateful to and frankly in awe of Mike R, Paragon boots department. Thank you!

I found an dress area of the store that was vacant that happened to be in the child's section and the young teen associate all but accused me of being a pedophile for changing in this area despite being 5'9" and a 38D, not wanting to be seen by male shoppers who could easily see my breasts from the height if the changing area doors. When my boyfriend explained why I'd gone to this area, he was told that "This was a men's store" and that was my problem. I left the store and decided to call, who answered the phone and pretended that "the manager was out" until I insisted and was put on hold for several seconds. She then put "the manager" (the same person who answered the phone and denied a manager was on site) on the phone. I tried explaining the situation but she interrupted and spoke over me, accusing me of bringing in outside clothing to try on, and restricting me from the dressing area because one can't bring in "outside clothes" to try on despite the fact I had about a half dozen shirts I wanted to try on from THIS location. She continued to interrupt me and when I got upset, she hung up on me. I the decided the return to the the store minutes later in person where she refused to engage me, lied, made discriminatory comments, and would only engage my boyfriend. She repeatedly interrupted and made accusations towards me despite my standing there. When I added the fact that insisting that this store doesn't serve women was discriminatory, she claimed she never said it, walked away, and refused to talk any longer. I will be reporting her to corporate.
