Dr. Varinos is thorough, caring, professional, and makes the entire process completely stress-free. Let me tell you a story to prove it. I had trouble with an older crown fitted by a previous dentist no longer at the practice. Dr. Varinos decided--the very first time I met him--to not just re-cement the crown and send me on my way, but to resurface the tooth and fit me with a brand-new crown. He didn't ask for anything but my complete satisfaction. No charge! (I know!) Where I come from here in Winthrop, well, that's just plain good business. He also reworked my night guard as well to ensure it fit properly with the new crown. I decided then and there, THIS is who I want to entrust these 65-year-old teeth to! To top it all off, he's a humble guy who happens to be a legendary, two-time NCAA Division III All-American ace pitcher for the Tufts Jumbos (our very own Jim Lonborg)! As the son of the practice owner, Frank Varinos, Dr. Speros is a total, gracious gentleman of a dentist with an incredibly bright future. And with both his undergraduate and dental degrees from Tufts, he checks every single box! But it's not just him--the other professionals in the office are well worth mentioning, too. To wit: 1. MARY, Hygienist: My regular hygienist for more than five years. Mary makes cleanings and X-rays a breeze. I actually look forward to seeing her for what used to feel like a drudge! Her work is professional, peerless, and absolutely beyond reproach. 2. YESSICA, Dental Assistant: Another total pro who is as gentle as a lamb and as professional as they come. I just hope I get to see her again at my next visit! 3. SHARON, Financial Coordinator: At the front desk, Sharon handles the financial piece with absolute aplomb and finesse--and it can't be easy! She has a wonderful sense of humor to boot. 4. SONIA, Receptionist: Sonia is always happy to see you and is super on the ball keeping me up to date with my appointments. A sunnier smile there simply isn't! Truly. 5. KAREN: Last but DEFINITELY not least, you have to meet Karen to believe she's real because she's one of the nicest (and funniest!) people you'll ever meet. Karen's officially retired but still comes in to take care of everything that needs doing in a pinch--and I mean EVERYTHING! I feel like she really runs the joint. Karen goes all the way back to the former practice owner, Dr. Carnicelli, which is how I came to know all of these good people in the first place. 6. There are STILL MORE FOLKS who keep Varinos Dental humming, and I apologize to those I haven't recently interacted with, but please know you are appreciated, too! This may sound like a lot to say in one go, but, well, I'm retired these days and, having a little extra time to do the things you don't usually have time enough for, well, it's my profound and sincere pleasure! I've…read morebeen a patient of this practice for many years -- first with his father, and now with Dr. Alex -- and I absolutely love seeing the generational transition of care. It says so much about the heart of a practice. A few years ago, I started clear aligner treatment to correct severe crowding, a chipped tooth, and years of difficulty maintaining proper hygiene because of how crowded my teeth were. My case was not simple, my treatment lasted close to four years but Dr. Alex was patient, thorough, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. He explains everything clearly, has an amazing chairside manner, and truly makes you feel comfortable and confident in the plan. The results have completely transformed my smile. I am beyond grateful. The office staff deserves just as much praise. The team is warm, welcoming, and consistent it's always familiar faces, which says a lot about the work environment and culture there. They worked with me financially to make treatment doable. I paid out of pocket, and they offered flexible arrangements that made it realistic without financial stress. Everything was transparent and fair. In all my years here, I can honestly say I've had maybe one minor negative interaction -- and that person didn't even stay long. Overall, this office runs on professionalism, kindness, and integrity. They do see children for general dental care, which I love but I only wish they offered orthodontic clear aligner treatment for kids as well. If they ever do, my teenage daughter will absolutely be there for the same transformation I experienced. That's how much I trust this team. If you're considering clear aligners or any dental work, this is the place.

Well, it was easy to get an appointment at least…read more I called because I lost a chunk of tooth (turns out it was a filling that fell out) and I needed it fixed. They got me in the next day!! Just not with the intention of doing anything about my tooth. We did a cleaning. The fastest and least detailed cleaning I've ever had. Also, I told both the assistant and dentist about 2 specific highly sensitive teeth. Both acknowledged the sensitive areas then proceeded to blast those sensitive areas with the rotary polisher and water picks. "I shall do no harm" apparently doesn't apply to dentists. Ignoring specific warnings from patients about painful areas is a bit unethical...also, no one could find anything. All four people who came into my room were running around opening and closing drawers like they lost their car keys. I still don't know if they found what they were looking for. We did X-rays. At the end I find out that Ed aren't fixing my busted tooth, that'll be next week. Today was to establish me as a new patient. Great! Yay! I'm soooo excited for my new dentist.... 5 stars for speed of appointment 1 star fir being attentive to the patient 2 stars for meeting my needs 5 stars for the staff being friendly and courteous 1 star for professional behavior in front of the patient.

Dentist here told me I had multiple cavities, which was odd considering my last dentist hasn't diagnosed me with cavities for YEARS. I wrongfully didn't get a second opinion and ended up having the first few filled that were "more severe" which caused sensitivity to those teeth (didn't even have sensitivity before the fillings). One of the fillings would catch on my floss, I went back for multiple appointments with different dentists in the office and they all said the filling was fine (I suspect they just didn't want to redo it). Lone and behold the filling that they told me was just fine popped out after a MONTH! Do not trust them with your teeth, you'll regret it.

vicky.t.tran@gmail.com 8:24AM (3 minutes ago)…read moreto me I had Invisalign braces at this location, and I do not think they know what they are doing. They have far too many interns, and sometimes they let the interns practice on patients' teeth. One of the interns filed too much off the surface of my two front teeth, leaving them flat and damaged. I complained to the clinic and to my doctor, Anya, but she dismissed my concerns. Here are additional issues I experienced with AP Dental in East Boston: 1. During my Invisalign treatment, they initially gave me a few sets of Invisalign trays. You're supposed to change trays every 1 to 2 weeks. After about 3-4 months, they told me my Invisalign treatment was complete. However, my teeth were still not aligned. I had to push them to continue because I knew my teeth weren't properly aligned. I had braces about 10 years ago, so I am very familiar with the correct position of my teeth. This clearly shows that they don't know what they're doing. 2. During my Invisalign consultation at AP Dental, the front desk staff informed me that the treatment came with a free teeth-whitening package valued at over $300. However, at the end of my treatment, I was given only three small whitening tubes, which cost about $15 each online and are also sold at AP Dental for the same price. This was clearly a case of false advertising. Overall, I would not recommend getting Invisalign at this location. Achieving good, healthy teeth is a serious matter, especially when it involves procedures like filing teeth to align them properly. AP Dental specializes in dental hygiene and clearly lacks experience with Invisalign. It seems like easy money for them, but for patients, the results are what truly matter. If I could go back in time, I would pay a little more to get my Invisalign treatment at an orthodontic office rather than a general dental hygiene office. One small mistake can permanently damage your teeth.
