I really, really wanted to like Coffee Town, but I just can't recommend it. I visited twice, and…read morethis is my review of both drinks: 1) Almond milk cappuccino: overly sweet and overly sour at the same time. Not sure where they are getting their almond milk, but the drink was terrible. 2) Pour-over (V-60 or 'Dripper'): Came out to 100 pesos, or ~$6.50. This was the average price for the options (i.e. not an overly fancy bean). For that sum, I got about 1/2 a cup of coffee. I have been to quite a few coffee roasters around the world, and this was by far the most overpriced cup I've had, including expensive countries like the U.K. and Japan. The coffee itself was pretty average: the pour over I had the day before in Montevideo (for the half the price) was way better. The staff is nice and the wifi free and fast. Besides that, I'm not going back, despite my hostel being only a block away.

Best medialunas we tasted in argentina. then again, they were basically croissants.

All of the syrups they use in house are home made and all of their ingredients are really nice top quality. You can see that they truly take pride in all they do. It's the oldest cafe in Buenos Aires and I liked the old school feel of it. We ordered a cafe con leche (latte), a tostada mixto (ham and cheese toastie sandwich), and a medialuna (smaller sweet croissant pastry). The portions were large so definitely shareable. The latte and the tostada mixto were good. Service was good as well, faster than I expected (I'm from NYC where everything is fast haha). The reviews said service was slow which I did not experience but it could be that I came early in the morning so it wasn't busy.

They even sell handmade ceramics and teas, and have a little table with a pretty bakery display. Find this bright corner cafe just across the street from the San Telmo flea market building. We stopped in for our merienda (the light evening meal before a typically late dinner). Sets for merienda are available until 7pm (same sets for desayuno until around noon). The tostadas were thick slices of fresh bread, a perfect snack when accompanied by queso blanco and dulce de leche. The #3 salad was giant (as expected) and was one the tastier salads I've had. They were the first place we went in Argentina that actually charged us the table fee (cubierto) - 9 pesos. Menu prices are average-to-high: the "sencillo" merienda set was 37 pesos, salad was 42 pesos, and yerba mate from a teabag was annoyingly 17 pesos. Worth a visit? It's no destination, but it's a cute place to indulge in the local cafe-going thing if you're in San Telmo.

They had some creative coffee options: expresso with cardamom, espresso with whisky, and every conceivable type of expresso/milk concoction. Their food is also really good. You can tell this place is an institution good because virtually all swathes is Buenos Aires come here, from fancy ladies on their way to or coming back from concerts to Argentine hipsters taking advantage of the strong wifi with their laptops. The place is quite old, I think it was founded sometime in the 1920s, but I could be misremembering. Nevertheless, the decor and architecture is certainly of that time. Oh and they are also a spice store.

A more or less average BA Starbucks, but exceptionally crowded…read more There are about 85 seats total, which is quite remarkable by USA standards, but not too far above the norm here in Buenos Aires. If you arrive and have any trouble finding where those 85 seats are, check out both the upper level and the even more capacious basement. However, note that you're still likely to have trouble finding a table to yourself depending on the time of day. It's not strange for this location to have 60-70 customers at a given time during the afternoon: It's possibly the most busy Buenos Aires Starbucks. Wait time to get your drink might be about 10 minutes including both ordering and receiving your order. If you can put up with the busyness, it's quite a nice spot.
