Full of charming original features and low ceilings it's nice to get a taste of the past served up with your food. But they're not stuck in a time warp, as there is WiFi too! Hungry after a walk, I chose the All Day Breakfast which offered up two of just about everything you'd expect for only a fiver. Happy wallet too. The staff are very smiley and the service is quick. I'd love to return and try out the cream tea or sandwiches. Definitely one of Rottingdean's finest. I'm resisting the urge to make an exceedingly good Kipling pun...

The building is mostly original inside, and even I have to duck because of how low some ceilings are -- now that's REALLY exciting. I came here with a few friends one day when we decided to explore other towns near Brighton. We stumbled upon Old Cottage and went for the classic tea, scones and clotted cream ordeal to feel fabulously proper. We were without a doubt the youngest people inside, but it was so refreshing to see groups of older women gabbing away for hours instead of the rush-rush dining experience mostly found today. If I'm completely honest, the scones and cream did nothing for me. Keep in mind, I don't really like sweets and absolutely hate anything creamy, so that should be taken with a giant grain of NaCl. The atmosphere is just lovely, and if you feel like transporting yourself to the British 1800's, throw on a massive floppy hat and come to Old Cottage. The tea is quite tasty.

Coffee @ 33 - Perfect coffee with the perfect pastry to go with it! I cannot remember the name of the pastry but it contained coconut, dates and apples.

I…read morealways say I'm happy with an instant coffee and, to be honest, can never really taste the difference, but after my trip to Coffee @ 33 I feel like that's all about to change... The coffee I had was strong and flavoured like none I had ever had before - sharp, but not too bitter. Sweet, but not sickly. Perfection in a cute little white mug (with a tiny little handle). This place is cool, but still comfortable, with only a few seats dotted around the tiny interior. It's simple, but effective and very much has a modern and sophisticated feel about the place. The staff we lovely and friendly - just as I like em - and were happy for my friend and I to sit leisurely with our coffees and chat, which is nice considering their lack of seating (they could be in a hurry for a quick turnover, but they were not pushy at all!). The food looked to die for, but sadly I did not get a chance to sample any of it this time around. I'll be back to try it, and to grab myself another one of their fantastic coffees. Check it out everyone! It's worth it.

There's only room to seat about 10-15 people at the same time but it's worth making a special trip for the great service, friendly atmosphere and excellent coffee. The beans are ground fresh on site and both the normal and decaf coffee are from the London independent - Monmouth Coffee Co. Coffee. So far, I've tried the espresso, the cappucino, latte and americano and they were all sublime. For those feeling peckish, there's also a small but mouth-watering selection of home-made brownies, muffins, shortcakes, carrot cake and toasties. If only more coffee shops were like this, I'd hop, skip and jump down the street....

After ordering, the bf and I wound up parking our big, bulky selves along a narrow, back counter space in an adjacent, quite small, rectangular room that I'd quickly coined the "laptop library". I think my po-po was almost accidentally backin' up against someone's MacBook Pro. At some point during our stay, I noticed this. So, Mac-dude was either too polite, or too English to tell me to move my goods away from his. Hehe. My perch was directly in front of an open window-ahhhh-so I was able to gaze out at the nearby street and buildings while gulls were crying somewhere off in the distance. The gulls were a very nice touch. What to say about the flat whites? Oh, I don't know. I hate to sound like a "hater", but the bevvies were quite milky with only the slightest hint of espresso to them. Resplendent with fab-o foam art, they looked every bit the part flat white, but didn't really taste like them. What's great about Ground is that the service was spot-on friendly and efficient. I'd be keen on going back and ordering a drip coffee and a snack, and, hopefully, snagging a seat by the window, or, if it's nice out, a seat on the bench out front.
