Live nearby Jindalee and feel your 'hood is lacking a decent cafe option? Bare Bones is for you…read more Live on the other side of town? This may not be the new cafe hub fro you? The menu just leaves me underwhelmed. Not because it isn't good our meals were decent (my vego sandwich - pumpkin, lentils, haloumi and rocket was a filling and reasonably healthy option for Saturday lunch). It's just that I feel the owner, one of Brisbane's most lauded chefs, could have taken more of a punt to bring together a menu that was bold and full of something more than a pasta dish, some hearty winter options (shanks) and open subs. I acknowledge this also could be what they're going for so that it is accessible to many. Perhaps as the weather warms and salads return to the menu this spot will truly shine. The prices are decent. $12-$14 for more subs and your most expensive mains being the lamb shanks at $24. Breakfast ranges from $10-$18 for their version of the big breakfast and there's a dedicated kids menu for breakfast and lunch. They'd run out of glasses on our visit and the service was a little patchy. From ordering to eating lunch there was a 45min wait for our meals (a rueben sandwich, a vege sandwich and a chicken salad to be brought to our table). And coffees that were ordered long after others were delivered first with us having to follow up on the others. Still, each time I've been at the home maker centre it's full. Which shows that it's a gem in a sea of hungry home shoppers wanting more than McDonalds and locals alike.

A cute little suburban cafe, nice spot to have breakfast or just to sit and have a coffee…read more Its no talk of the town but this cute little suburban cafe was definitely a pleasant surprise in an otherwise unsuspecting part of Jindalee. They are situated right behind the Homemaker's centre on Groggs Road and there honestly isn't much out there apart from a retirement home, day care centre and DFO up the street. I found the place at a friend's suggestion to meet for coffee and breakfast. They had a small deli section with some prosciutto and cheese as well some local homemade products for sale (jams, jewellery, books). Its not a huge space but is big enough for sufficient seating inside and outside. The decor was lovely, modern yet has that French art-decor style about it. They server, coffees, drinks, breakfast and lunches. I was here for a breakfast with a friend and we both orders a mug of Chai latte and a Prosciutto and cheese croissant. Both items were decent, good, not blow your mind spectacular, but good. We did come on a Monday morning so it wasn't very busy, but also not scary quite. Would I come here again? I think so. Though the location worries me a little as it is a bit out of the way for most people. I hope they would still be here the next time I'm in town.

Thankfully, Samarco 2 did not disappoint. Their spaghetti marinara was packed with flavour and was chock full of plump prawns and fresh mussels. The rest of the meal was equally good - especially dessert but you can't really go wrong with crème brulee. My only concern is that it's very expensive for a suburban Italian cafe - entrees and salads are around $15 -$20 and the mains range from $20- $35. For those prices, I would probably prefer to go into the city where I could get equally excellent food at a nicer venue.

We happened to be driving around Midde Park to put flyers for our business up (turns out, there are…read moreno places with billboards anymore), and noticed this new swanky shopping centre which used to be the daggy middle park shopping centre. Where on earth did this pop up from... and we live around this area. It seems a little out of place considering the surrounds and the general middle park area. Samarco 2 stood out like a sore thumb on the corner outside of the main shopping centre itself. So we thought it's hot, let's sit down in this nice looking alfresco restaurant. Don't know if it was because it was in the middle of the day, or they were a waiter short... not only were we shocked at menu prices for the location, but the place was a bit posh looking we chickened out and didn't just walk away. Big mistake. We waited to be served, I had to get up to ask if there was table service or not, then our food took forever to come out... but when it eventually did, it was very yummy. I ordered the Mexican Beef Salad (wasn't this an Italian Restaurant?) and noticed there were Szechwan Duck Spring Rolls and Nasi Goreng on there as well.... wasn't it spelt Szechuan? What are they doing putting asian food on the menu with italian pastas... oh no not again with the fusion. So the food was nice, but very expensive and they confuse me with their menu a little, mixing the original italian cuisine with a hodge podge of others I find... somehow cheapens the posh looking place... also they should spell check the menu. Try it out, but it's a little weird.
