One of the good things about my home town having such a poor centre is the fact that none of the big coffee chains will touch it with a 12foot brown sugar swizzle stick.
Don't get me wrong,I don't have a problem with the Starbucks,Neros and Costas of this world,I'll happily drink in all of them (I miss the St annes Square Coffee Republic a lot) but I don't like their prices making having a brew feel like a treat, rather than just whetting your whistle whilst out shopping/mooching.
I think, although i'm not sure, that Coffee Cali is part of a chain, but it doesn't really feel like one. It is just a relatively small cozy coffee shop that has the usual mixture of rock hard seats, and comfy seats (There is never a middle ground). Tables outside for when the weather isn't nuclear winter,or for the nicotine minded (Me).
They have a nice selection of food which I can't tell you about as I haven't eaten there, but they have the usual suspects where the beverages are concerned, and the prices are of the "Ooo that's not bad!" rather than the "How much? For a cup of coffee???". They do a really nice amaretto latte, and a lovely hot chocolate with whipped cream, marshmallows and a flake. You get change from a £2 coin for that particular drink too.
I like Coffee Cali,I just wish they'd change the C to a K. Come on,who wouldn't want to have a brew in a shop named after the Hindu Goddess of death, time and change? Just me then? : ) read more
